Just wondering please reply to see if we can get a decent amount together for a meetup.

Cheers.

  • I'm Adelaide……-ish

  • +1

  • +1 actually went searching for the Adelaide meetup thread

  • me too

  • I'm in Adelaide.. but what's the point of the meetup?

    • +3

There is no point. Just like the never ending roadworks. But still, it must be done.

Who would like to meet the man behind The Quote Train?

  • +1

  • Suggest a venue and we'll see what we do.

Should have had it yesterday (13th), free entry into Adelaide Oval! Good for the tightarses

    • +1

All shield matches have free entry into Adelaide Oval.

So at the moment we have roughly 10…

      • Oh really…. Thanks for that :)

  • +1 Adelaide

  • Okay so we have 10 where would we go? Ideally would be nice to get some more…might get some more if we post it on the main bit of the site…

    • I think you need to pick a venue, then figure out dates otherwise no one will decide on anything. Once you have something firm, then give us a shout and we'll get the ball rolling.

    • Basically it would be similar to Brisbane meetup last year. Once you get the ball rolling (you've already got 10 here, which is a good start), you can find out where to meet and the food arrangement. We can contribute financially (within reasons, and it must be cheap :) At the end we just need someone to volunteer organising the event. This applies to other cities as well (including Sydney). I just haven't got time to organise one here :(

I'll need to discuss with neil (maybe next week) whether user-organised events can use our Meetup.com group.

    • I'm guessing central, since it's highly likely that we're all scattered across the city..
The pubs down the south end of town are all pretty decent.
Not at the south end of town, but cheap is the Ed Castle on Currie St near MSY . They have a $10 menu and although it's been a few years, the food was very good too.

      • Possibly could work anybody else know of any other good cheap pubs?

        • Fasta Pasta is always good value.

Guys. Lets do coopers ale house. Then I am in.

    • They do have a nice room that's free. But their prices are quite high and they don't seem to have any vouchers anywhere…??

      • 300g pami $18
600g pami $23 (really really huge)
        That's all I know
They have upstairs function room, on their website says if you book friday or sat room get $200 voucher to spend. I'll make some calls.

        • Cheers!

        • Find anything out?

  • Apologies for the late reply.
Friday sat booked out for rest of the year so that's out, besides it's $200 to hire the function room upstairs.
Monday to Thursday we got two options
    Lunch 12-5
    Or Dinner till ~5.30-11.30pm
The room hire is $100 for this period, i.e,. Week nights

Then there's the food, you can go on there website to have a look at the menu. It's standard $22-$30 for a good meal plus drinks.

    So you guys can decide

I think we should poll this, fasts pasta (near the end of Pultney on the corner) or coopers ale house

Fasts pasta will be much cheaper but they don't have a private area. But then again won't have to pay $100 just to sit privately.

    • They'll wave the room hire, I've organised functions there before and they had no problem with that. It's more expensive but pretty good value for money (massive schnittys). If we are looking for a cheaper pub:

      The Archer $12 menu http://www.archerhotel.com.au/dining.html#item_11668
The Astor $10 weekday specials http://www.theastor.com.au/
Or my personal fav The Alma Fridays $5 beers & cheap pizzas http://webhost-15.adam.com.au/~almatav/index.php

      • Melbourne's ozbargain meet up is $5…surely Adelaide has something to match. If it isn't cheap then I doubt we will have enough interest.

Will definitely go anywhere but would nice to get something good value for money.

        • The $5 that we charge for Melbourne Meetup is really the token of commitment. The previous Brisbane meetup was free and a few did not turn up although they said they would. That just makes organisation more difficult.

As I've commented before, for once-off events OzBargain will be happy to contribute to minimise the cost for those who are coming.

  • A good place to get an idea of where groups meetup is by checking out Meetup

    Some places listed:

    • The Coopers Ale House
    • Goodwood Park Hotel
    • Maid & Magpie
  • The Port Club? ;)

  • Thanks Scotty, I didn't realise you would do that.

I just had a couple of brain waves.

Bay Bar and Bistro in Glenelg can use shoppadockets buy one meal get one free. Half price meals for all, they have some rooms there which we could use.

Vice Presidents Room half day $100, Mcrgrath Room $150 half day.

    http://www.thebayfunctioncentre.com.au/images/docs/TheBayFC_…

Broadway hotel has a side room for free prices are pretty standard.

Australian Pizza House offer cheap tasty pizzas in the city. Could try and cut a deal with them.

Let me know what you think.

  • I know this from last year, but thought I'd get it back in discussion. Any of those above meeting places would good, don't think I've ever met anyone in real life that actually uses OzBargain!

    • Then maybe we could get a fortnightly or a monthly meet up going

  • Think fortnightly or monthly would be too much maybe bi annual?

I stopped commenting as there didn't seem to be enough interest however not everyone checks the forums.

  • hopefully not beating a dead horse but happy to organize an adelaide meetup that isnt just the next bigw/target clearance like normal with the same 20 of us showing up.

    • What 20 of us would come?
Are there more adeladians around this time?

      • +1

easily, and thats not including the buying syndicates that pilfer all the bargains then resell them on gumtree :)

        • Well then get it organised then.

        • +1

@treeman: if ozb are cool with us organizing it. lets do it.

Soon as fire season is over is probably best time.

          @typhoonadventure:

Happy with whatever you guys want as long as people show up. Will need to get some more t-shirts made up so at least we have some stuff to hand out.

The Melbourne meetup this year was at Poked which is also owned by the same guys as Scroll Ice Cream in Adelaide. I can ask them if they can do something similar for Adelaide. I think the smaller more informal meetups work a bit better. Worst comes to worse at least you'll get an ice cream. :)

          @neil: that would be legendary.

im happy to use my fb groups to promote it as well.
