Presto 01264 - 5.7L Aluminium Pressure Cooker - $13.52 Delivered from Fishpond

151

Just found this on fishpond, here is the same cooker from amazon it has mostly good reviews but also has a few bad ones so take them for what their worth - http://www.amazon.com/Presto-6-Quart-Aluminum-Pressure-Cooke…

It is delivered from the US (I think most things on fishpond are?) though I dont really understand how they can afford to even sell it for this price it seems like it could be a mistake, or do they only make a couple of dollars each? I dont know.. I'm just hoping its just someone cleaning out old/dead stock or similar.

Anyway yes it is aluminum so get a better stainless 'newer design' one if your going to be using it often or cooking acidic foods like tomatoes (aluminum can leach and cause metallic taste into acidic foods).

Id be getting a better one if I knew I was going to cook with it often and could justify the cost, there's a nice looking Stainless Dessini brand one on feebay for $80 delivered though couldn't go past this one for $13.50, for how often I will use it, it looks perfect, I just hope I dont get a dud, or for that matter a refund due to price error.

Hope someone finds it useful.

I just also found the instruction manual online if anyone wants to read it - http://www.gopresto.com/downloads/instructions/01264.pdf

  • Thanks! bought 1 since I've not use pressure cooker before and would like to try it out.

    • If you've never used one of these before I found a video of this one in action. The guy is spot on, you simply have to start off with a high heat until it indicates its up to pressure (the valve thing will then start to chatter/jiggle) then turn it down to a mid / simmer heat.. The main goal is you dont want very much steam escaping at all, just enough for you to know its at full pressure, so only start with as much (maybe just slightly more) water than you want (like if your making a soup or stock) since in the end if your using it right the water wont be escaping as steam.

    Hi from Fishpond,

Although we do our best to ensure prices stated on our website are accurate, pricing errors do occur from time to time as has occurred in this case. We are very sorry to advise that we will be cancelling these orders today.

Rest assured we are working on improving the detection systems.

    Kind regards

    Thanks OP for posting anyway.

  • Yeah for what its worth im sorry for getting anyone's hopes up.

This was my first experience with fishpond myself and im disappointed but they actually gave me $5 credit onto my fishpond account
    I promptly bought:http://www.fishpond.com.au/Stationery/Chemical-Safety-Goggles-Clear-Lens/0766868223011

Hopefully thats not a pricing error as well hey..LMAO.
At least I need those and they also look decent quality… For free i guess i cant really complain too much right.

Well now have to keep looking for a cooker, probably just end up buying the better stainless Dessini one from ebay (that by the way is cheaper than all of the aluminium Presto ones I can find in australia including the other ones on fishpond the only other cheaper one ive found is a 3L hawkins Aluminium one for $55 on ebay)…. - So for the persons thinking fishpond were somehow 'trawling' ozbargain if you read my 'bargain description' you can see I already plugged the Dessini ebay cooker another time so this wasn't them doing anything to ozbargain (unless you think it was perhaps to their consumers in general?), but by the look of it, it was just a simple mistake.

I have no idea how they found out it was on ozbargain probably the influx of sales all in a short time for the one item that was the wrong price.

  • I really wish I was wrong but I obviously called it about the price error before I even put up the bargain. :-(

Probably shouldn't have put it up since it seemed too good to be true to begin with.. Ah well.

    • This is why you wait until you get confirmation that your order is in the post before you post it here and risk getting your order cancelled on what is obviously a pricing error :)

Still +1 for the effort OP:)
