iPad Air Pricing in Australia

The ipad air carries a AU$598 price tag which is an increase of AU$59 from ipad 4

If im not mistaken ipad 4 was announced in the US for $499 and the same for ipad air at $499 (correct me if im wrong)

Does anyone know why is there and increase in price for the new ipad in Aus but not in the US?

For comparison, the ipad mini with ret. display in AUS and US both increased in prices ..

  • You can purchase it from Target for $559. Then get a refund of $50 for GST on the Tourist refund scheme, which is pretty much USA price.

  • Wait till black Friday sale, last year apple had it, get 10% off…

  • They have increased prices for almost all products, including Macs, iPhones and iPads. I guess this is due to the lower aussie dollar.

  • November 2012, 1 AUD bought 1.03 USD.

    November 2013, 1 AUD buys 0.93 USD.

So needs to be 10% more expensive in AUD.

Weaker Australian dollar compared to last year, it works out to be pretty fair though.

$499 USD = $540 AUD + $54 GST, so Apple isn't really "Australia taxing" us, per se.

  • if you are buying in the USA, unless you buy from an out of state online store you'll have to add the sales tax of 6%-8% to the US prices. So it will cost at least USD525 there.

  • I guess its reasonable to say that the increase is due to lower aussie dollar compared to last year.
