Costco Crossroads Casula (NSW) - Petrol E10 $1.229/L; Premium (98ron?) $1.469/L

120

Costco Crossroads NSW opened up yesterday (21 Nov). I've been told that the price of fuel at this store location is/was:

E10: 122.9c/L
Premium: 146.9c/L

By comparison, the cheapest premium fuel that I've been buying lately has been 155.Xc/L at my local Speedway; while usual Coles/Woolies were around 175c/L mark before shop a docket discount.

Hopefully Costco is able to offer these sorts of discounts on an ongoing basis and it's not just a store opening promo.

  • What about Diesel?

    • Don't know, that's all the info I got.

Not really a big discount. Current E10 Price at Caltex Prestons (just around the corner from Costco pump is 127.9 (-4c discount)= 123.9. [Yesterday it was 121.9]

    • Marked as expired though.

      • I think the Ozb system auto marked it as expired cause I didnt have a specific expiry date for this deal/price. Wouldn't be surprised if the operator adjusts the price up/down whenever it feels like, like everyone else.

    • Caltex would've responded to Costco's pricing. If Officeworks match a good deal at JB then it doesn't necessarily mean the deal isn't good any more.

      • Could well be the case. Win-win for the consumers.

Surprised yesterday when noticed the price drop at the neighboring Caltex (it's the one I normally use to fill-up). Motormouth still shows prices in 140.9 range for the entire Liverpool area. Also woolies mobile app was showing average market price to be approx 15c higher.

        • I used to work at Caltex many moons ago. Any caltex station can ask for pricing support from head office to meet or better the discounted price of a nearby competitor. So I think that caltex station near costco will have discounted prices for a long time.

    • Inside news - Caltex Prestons will price match for E10 for next few days. + fuel discount.

plus the costco membership fee. not really a bargain just for fuel

    • Plenty of people already have memberships, so this is just a bonus for them.

every costco deal post there is someone saying this. lol.

if you think about it, if you signed up for the first deal since the first 'complaint' about costco memberships in OZB… your savings would be much more than the membership fee you paid for right now.

but hey, short term gains and sight etc etc right?

Exactly. Been a Costco member since it opened in Auburn since 2011. Never looked back. The $60 membership fee is often more than compensated in a month's grocery.

Point is Costco arrival is keeping the other guy honest

    • lol. they are just another business, don't give them too much credit.

Agree. Some Costco deals are worthless and are beaten by specials at local Woolies.

I've now figured out what to buy from Costco and what from my local woolies around the corner.

Neverthless it an injustice not to say that Woolies specials have become juicier after Costco opening. IMO, Coles/Woolies can't really afford to sustain the high profit margins they've traditionally enjoyed any more.

        • only to some degree

many people do not live close enough to costco to warrant the drive on a regular basis, so the chains in those region would not see the need to have the same pricing as the chains closer to costco…

        • Agree, my assumption holds in Syd/Can/Mel metro areas only.

For two years, I've driven 30km to Costco Auburn but only once a month was adequate - as you typically buy in bulk there. Now the Crossroads warehouse is only 7km away. :)

Cant wait to have it in Canberra

    • Yea Canberra is always 30c more at $1.56 E10, for no reason.

      • Local prices in Syd are presently in 140s. You pay extra for the fuel transportation from the wholesaler/stockist. Generally the farther you are from the main port - more is the price. I remember paying almost double the price than Sydney - in places like Eucla, WA and Broken Hill, NSW etc.

        • In theory yes; and this is the standard line run by the fuel companies. However in canberra:

          • fuel retailers have pretty much ended the usual weekly price discounting cycle, so now fuel is pretty much permanently at 156c or so and has been since July 2013. So much for fuel price fluctuation due to overseas factors.
          • fuel in metro canberra sometimes costs more than surrounding regional towns; but on random occasions has been less than cheap areas in Sydney.

WHY? cause the fuel companies can and see the higher than average income community as a cash cow.

      • Virtually no competition in fuel in canberra. If costco did sell fuel in canberra, people would be flocking

  • and Brisbane

  • LOL, wtf when did costco have a petrol station?…..

Does the new Ringwood one have it?

    • Not from what I have heard but the next Costco the planning in Vic out in Epping is going to have one

    • Most Costco warehouses in the US sell petrol. Think they just entered the Aussie petrol market. This will boost the much needed competition. Presently they are offering a slightly better price than what you get with the 4c discount voucher from Shell/Caltex.

  • Wish the costco at Auburn will have discounted fuel. They can probably buy the car wash in front besides anaconda because it used to be a petrol station.

    • ditto

  • Wasn't going to be 99c a litre?? What's this 1.22 crap

  • Interesting to see how the 7-Eleven (next doors to Costco Crossroads) prices their petrol going forward.

  • Inside news - Caltex Prestons will price match for E10 for next few days. + fuel discount.

  • The E10 price at Costco pump has now gone up to 125.9c/L for the last week or so.

    • Still cheap. Nearby lows were 135.9 on Saturday just passed, and had been jacked up to 155.9 on Sunday…
Will be interesting to see if Costco play the weekly discounting price cycle.
