  • Not exactly a big basket size at 2.2L "The optimal amount for preparing crispy fries is 500 grams"

  • I've been wanting to get one of these, but how do they fair against the philips airfryer?

  • Yes we are looking for one as well, especially when comparing with a genuine Philips one.

    • +1

Well you'd hope that the genuine one would have gone through some safety regulation and control as opposed to the chop shop approach by direct Chinese OEM. Sure they're probably both coming out from the same factory but at least one you can hold accountable to whilst the other you'd have to mail it back and hope that you'll get some response in the next couple weeks. By then you'd probably be admitted to hospital with poison or cancer.

Anyway help Gerry & keepin' it fair so the 'unfairly' treated fella can fund his next yacht!

  • the 2.2l basket seems to be the common criticism with these things. It says it's easy to clean so will find out what the story is. I couldn't find anyone with a review on the kogan brand so i'll be reviewing it personally…if it's cactus then my credit card company will refund me :D

    • which credit card

      • +1

        NAB platinum

  • I'm confused by the decription. It says

with up to 80% less fat!

    and

Because there is no oil involved in the frying process

Which is it, less fat or no fat? How does one make chips, does the raw potato need to be coated in oil before putting it in the frier?

    • +2

the chips would already contain fat which it just uses to cook without needing to add more oil. At least that's how the Philip's version works.

      • The manual (thanks Belistic) says to add a little bit of oil to the Kogan one, but I'm guessing it might be for flavour reasons more than the cooking process.

Do chips from the Philips fryer, cooked without any added oil, taste like "normal" chips? Is there a lack of flavour?

    • +1

There's a link to download the manual on their website.
It mentions that you need to rinse the starch off the fresh chips/wedges etc and add 1/2 tbsp of oil to fresh chips.

      • Thanks, the manual is pretty good.

Acording to the manual, the only foods which need anything added are "home-made fries", "home-made potato wedges" and "home-made potato cubes". For all of those, it's just like you said, rinse, put half a tablespoon of oil and potato bits into a bowl, mix, then transfer potato bits to the fryer.

  • I thought people didn't like these devices as they rarely worked as advertised?

Very interested if it actually works…

    • Judging from Philips Airfryer deal in September, many actually bought it and were happy about it. I have no experience with the Philips one myself. However my brother got a Tefal Actifry and it was very good.

  • +1

it might melt your kitchen away…

  • +3

after the $9 (or less?? forget) kogan headphone deal i dont want to touch any kogan brand stuffs~!
    do not trust the pictures

    • Bought their $79 bagless vacuum 3 years ago and with once a week usage in a 2 bedroom apartment and its still going. I've been happy with it but not so happy with cheap Samsung cover as its now falling apart 1 month later. Guess you win some and Iose some.

  • What's the deliciousity level on these things? Not high I'm guessing

    • +2

I tried nibbling on the plastic handle a bit and found it lacking in flavour. I'd say deliciousity level would be slightly above your average crayon.

      Would recommend pistachios instead.
