Nice timing, was looking at their xmas packs but was turned off by the shipping charges. Will give it a go now - thanks op

  • Yes the shipping was ridiculous..

Time to make another order. I'm gonna get some Jerky packs as Xmas presents.

    • Just made my order…thanks metaphorical Jim!

  • Which flavour do people recommend? The 1kg looks like by far the best value so Im only going to be able to get one flavour. It comes down to Chilli, Garlic or Peri Peri…

    • I like the Bloody Hot Chilli myself… but I'm a bit of a fan of heat… the Chilli is pretty good, flavour wise, but don't expect massive amounts of hot :)

The pepper stuff is awesome! Recently been liking the Honey Soy. Gonna try the Teriaki next….

    • All good choices guys, especially if you like the heat

      • Any chance you can do a 1kg $75 made up of a few different flavours?

    Fantastic, thanks OP :D

What's the diff between jerky and biltong?

    • +2

I haven't tried their biltong, but the explanation from their website:

Our jerky and biltong are made from the same meat and both are made with the same spice. The only difference is we have to cut the jerky into small thin strips and we've left the biltong in large slabs. Therefore the jerky is very dry and the biltong is still moist on the inside

Thank u! I couldn't find it on their website, couldn't have looked hard enough ;)

The biltong rocks! Softer and leaner - and tastier!

        • +2

Cool, made me order 500g Biltong to try it out.

Still a bit too pricey. Jerky/Biltong is so easy to make and cheap. I usually buy round steak when its on special $7-8 per kg and season it South African style - coriander, balsamic vinegar, salt, sugar. For chili style, I sub the coriander and go with cayenne pepper and liquid smoke. Sometimes, I do curry powder. The options are endless.

A good butcher will usually cut the meat into whatever thinness you like and all you have to do is add the flavourings and whack it on the dehydrator for a couple of hours.

1kg of meat will give you 350 to 400g of finished product.

Dehydrators are quite cheap and definitely worth it.

I bought a dehydrator months ago - but never got round to getting it out the box because Jim's is sooooo good :)

    • Any recommendations on a dehydrator? Also have you tried using kangaroo?

I went with the Biltong King dehydrator by Mellerware - from the reviews, and for the money - seems to be the best bet
