CheapOair.com Jetstar SYD -> HNL RTN $528.40 USD! Selected Dates in Dec 2013 (Pricing Error?)

162

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I suspect this could be a pricing error, but thought it was worth a go and booked flights from SYD to HNL for $528.40 USD. Departing 17/12/13 Returning 26/12/13.

Not too sure if this qualifies as a bargain as it seems to be a limited offer of "3 tickets left at this price".

Found the flights through adioso.com which redirected to the cheapoair.com website. Tried a few dates from 15/12/13 and still came up with the same price.

jetstar.com shows the same flights for $1381.68 AUD + Fees.

I rang Jetstar to try a pricematch but they said they don't pricematch their own flights.

Fingers Crossed!

Edit: Received a "Booking Receipt" with this disclaimer…

Flight Booking Status: We are processing your reservation and will send you confirmation once this has been completed and a ticket has been issued. Please note that your purchase will be complete only after the ticket has been issued, and during this time period, the fares are subject to change and may increase. In the rare event fares increase, you may opt to cancel your booking at no cost to you.

Edit: Received the following in an email…
* Due to the airline(s) not confirming your booking, we were unable to issue your tickets.

We have searched our system and have found alternate flight options for you. Please click on the “View Alternate Flights” link below to view the options available to you.

You have the RIGHT to cancel this booking. If you choose to cancel, there is absolutely no service fee and no cancellation cost to you.*

The Alternate flights offered cost $12746.00+$314.96(taxes)=$13060.96 flying Qantas…

It's interesting that they place the blame on Jetstar. I contacted Jetstar, and they found the booking on their system but it had not been completed by Cheapoair…
I suspect that Cheapoair is more at fault here than Jetstar.

Lesson Learnt.. Avoid Cheapoair..

  • Thanks for the post OP. Shame I won't be able to take annual leave until after New Year's.

Heaps of review websites claim cheapoair to be dodgy and bogus. Beware of your booking, they will most likely ask to pay fare difference or some other charges.

Just checked the fare for my NZ trip and this site is at least $200 cheaper than any other site I used. Just googled Cheapo and it has quite a few bad reviews. Oh well

      • My wife recently used Cheapo for a flight from MEL->KIX return. No complaints and $200 cheaper than the next rival.

  • Nice find - Keep us posted

Use promo code 'LC50' to save more. (supposed to be $50, but only looks to be about $10~ extra)

  • Nice flight prices, but 4* hotels are around $450 during the silly seasons.

  • You can save $7 more on this flight if you apply promo code LC50

For what it's worth, I've used Cheapoair (also through adioso) to book Virgin Syd to Mel flights and they worked out fine. Price was in USD and used 28 Degrees card and it was considerably cheaper than what Virgin had on their own website.

  • Crazy good price, especially considering the dates.

  • I did SYD to HNL and it was $528-90. 3 people. Tried several dates but the best alternastive it came up with was 29/12, returning 3/1 . 6 days (not what I wanted but it was all IT could find, close to the dates I chucked in). Flying Jetstar. "4 tickets left at this price". Didn't go any further with the booking. Interested in seeing how the op goes. Thanks

  • With flights its all about timing. Guess its a quota thing with these agents.
I've used cheapo for my next trip but once they sent me the eticket they've got nothing to do. Its between me n the airline. So dodgy or not doesn't matter. If the price is right, book it as it won't last long.

Wow I've read some negative feedback around the world before, but this mob takes the cake!!! Do yourselves a favour and go and read it BEFORE doing anything. You will not book if you do. I started reading some feedback of 4 years ago and then 3 years and then current. Same stories about bait and switch, lies, fraud, etc. Nothing has changed it seems. BEWARE!!!

  • If you find the website sketch why not use the flight centre store front pricematch?

I used to do this with zuji, whenever the deal seems too good to be true. Their promo is that they will beat it by $1, or you fly free(used to also get a diacount coucher but seems they have stopped that). In other words they will always beat it, even if it means buying the tickets for you and eating the dollar :) plus then if things go wrong you have a much better organization to support you travel remediationa.

    • They only match Australian based companies, CheapOAir is American.

  • surely try next time

  • Looks dodgy.

  • So did anyone get any flights at this price at all?

  • wondering if anyone got the actual ticket? please update! Thanks
