  • Does anyone know if EB will price match it instore? I need to get rid of my EB gift voucher from 2 years ago.

    • +2

according to the other thread the rep said it was "too hot" to match it in store.

  • +7

Does JB or another retailer sell the same pack so that price match can be achieved? I refuse to shop at EB.

  • +3

Its sad if people go into EB and say do you price match jb/BigW on their biggest sale of the year lol.

  • +1

I don't think other retailers do the 3G model.

Plus, too hot to match in store is funny. And annoying.

Oh and are we really gonna go down the path of taking every individual deal out of the main thread and turn them into separate posts?

    • +1

I don't think other retailers do the 3G model.

BigW was selling the 3G model (on and off) a few weeks ago online for $188-ish before delivery, if I'm not mistaken. Killzone included. No card with games.

    • Actually, nowadays I can only find 3G models, and the wifi models are the rarer ones, at least in Sydney and among JB/EB/Dick smith/stuff like that anyway

  • If I were to get this (as my first PSP), does anyone have any game recommendations?
I like pokemon and side scrolling games.

    • Dragon's Crown. Side scrolling dungeon crawler action RPG similar to the D&D arcade games.

    • +1

Persona 4 golden, especially if you like Pokemon, it has Pokemon style battles

    • Sign up for Playstation Plus. Great value and some platformers on there this month.

  • +1

    Shipping: $2.50 for me.
Those Vita cards are overpriced garbage, so this is probably one of the better Vita deals.

  • This is pretty tempting. $199 for a Vita and a 16GB memory card ($40 on their own in this sale), with a game code to sell on Ebay to sweeten the deal a little bit. Persona 4 for $25, and I already have a pretty healthy collection of Vita games from PS+, just need something to play them on. And this is the OLED Vita, which'll be phased out when the LCD screen ones come out…

    • Persona 4 sold out :(

  • The memory card is what make this deal.
But i dont understand why they cant match it instore.

  • I would be all over this if I didn't have one already. Grab this and get Persona 4 and you're set!

  • Probably worth around $300. Definitely a bargain, even if you don't like the Vita.

In case you need the latest and the greatest gear, there's a new PS Vita which is already out in Asia, and would probably be here in Australia soon, too.

    http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/technology/sony-announce…

Sony on Tuesday announced the new PS Vita, which includes a sleeker built and an improved touch screen.

The new redesigned PS Vita, which will be available in Singapore on November 14, weighs only 219 grams and at least 20 per cent slimmer compared to the first-generation model – giving it a better grip than the previous model.

Still running on quad core Cortex processor, the screen is replaced with a 5” LCD touch screen to provide users with the highest-level image quality, perfect for deep and immersive gaming experience.

Other improvements in this second generation of PS Vita include 1 gigabyte worth of internal storage and users can charge its battery with any micro-USB cable without the need for its pack-in battery charger.

Other features also include Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 2.1, built-in stereo speakers, front/rear camera, Micro USB port, memory card and six axis motion sensing system.

A total of six colour choices for the new PS Vita are available along with two limited editions starter packs themed after “Gundam Breaker” and a “God Eater 2" Fenrir edition.

The PS Vita PCH-2006 Series will go on sale on November 14 at the recommended retail price of S$299. The limited edition starter packs recommended retail prices are S$399 and S$369 respectively.

The old PS Vita's OLED screen seems to have much nicer colours than the new LCD screen.
      Here a comparison vid

      • +2

I'm going to hold off and get the new Vita once it's released for the following reasons:-

        • cool colours - better than boring black anyhow

        • better ergonomics - the reviews i've watched say that the new model is more comfortable to hold, which is pretty important

        • better battery - not much better, but better is better

        • micro SD slot - this is actually quite important for me as it means I can easily and readily charge it. I could never find my PSP charging cables and that was one of the reasons that it didn't get used much. With micro SD I can use the exact same cable, that resides in the exact same space as I charge my mobile and wireless headset. Simple.

        • The screen is good, apparently.

        • $199 including the memory card is a bargain, and is tempting - but I can't see the new model going up in price. Well, it probably will go to $259 rrp and then gather dust on the shelves and then see $199 including a new release game, or memory card bundle.

I should imagine that he new Vita will be here within the next few months, and my guess is the retailers are using Christmas as an opportunity to get rid of most of the current Vitas. I can't think of another reason as to why EB would give such a good deal.

That being said, if this $199 deal with memory card was in store it'd be mighty tempting to mosey on down and pick one up.

        • +2

You want to charge your PS Vita through a micro SD slot??

        • +2

          Micro USB, my bad

        • -2

EB are giving such a good deal because the Vita is dead in the water.

        • +1

I would wait to see how it goes with the PS4 before calling that one. I didn't think that much of it and recently got one. Very pleased so far.

        • Remote play isn't the great white hope that people are claiming it is. Even within a high speed home network it adds noticeable lag, degraded graphics, and maximum 30fps. Not to mention using the rear track pad as a L2/R2/L3/R3 replacement is terrible, and the analogue sticks give nowhere near enough control compared to the DS4 to be an adequate replacement. Even on a direct connection to the PS4, bypassing all routers, it still adds a few frames of input lag. For some of us that makes Remote Play completely unusable.

I myself am an early adopter of the Vita, so don't take this as me just being bitter that I don't have one or anything like that.

    • -2

In other words, there's not much difference between the current model and the upcoming one - except the price..

      • +2

In other words, there's not much difference between the current model and the upcoming one - except the price..

        • more battery life (1 hour more?)
        • changed ergonomics (better?)
        • more colour choices
        • 1GB internal storage (versus zero)
        • standard charging connector versus Sony proprietary
        • downgrade (or upgrade) on the LCD. I guess it's down to what you prefer and how you like your colours rendered, but some have reported more ghosting with fast action on the new one but some dislike the unnatural highly saturated colours of OLED displays, but like the deeper blacks and faster response OLED offers. No doubt the new screen is cheaper for Sony to buy, regardless of what one's preferences are here. I think that's the main goal, while making some of the other things a bit more enticing to boost sales :)
        • +2

          1GB internal storage (versus zero)

Unfortunately Sony still push the overpriced memory card by making the internal storage inaccessible while a me.ory card is inserted so you can't benefit from it.

        • Unfortunately Sony still push the overpriced memory card by making the internal storage inaccessible while a me.ory card is inserted so you can't benefit from it.

Yes, though it helps users who just buy a new unit and don't have the memory card. Sony haven't abandoned the overpriced memory card routine, unfortunately.

        • -1

I still disagree - these are slight improvements. You seem to imply that the display on the (current) Vita is bad, yet they've sold tonnes.. Will the games actually be better? No. It's a minor upgrade, and I'm guessing the price to pay for that will be significant. I do agree however, with your point on the displays being cheaper for Sony to buy, which is why any major price hike will likely be unjustified.

        • +2

I still disagree - these are slight improvements. You seem to imply that the display on the (current) Vita is bad, yet they've sold tonnes..

I don't imply it's bad. I clearly state it has benefits (better blacks, no slow response in fast action like the new model Vita, as some people have stated). Some like the saturated colours of OLED displays, while some can find it too unnatural.

3rd generation PSP had an LCD display and I personally found the colour response cartoon-like when watching videos, so much so that it put me totally off watching videos on the thing (compared to the second generation). So it isn't always OLED that is oversaturated; LCD can be too (despite all fiddling with settings).

Tastes can vary. Benefits and non-benefits for both displays, in my opinion.

Sales of Vita have been below forecast for Sony and they have publically expressed that the price reductions on the Vita have hurt their bottom line. Companies don't slash prices like this unless they need to move inventory.

People don't buy Vita purely for the display. They buy it because they want portable gaming. So drawing parallels between sales of Vita and the tech used in its display might be a bit of a stretch. I'm sure it attracts some buyers though.

Whether or not the changes in the new Vita are minor or major would depend on the user of course. I think the redesign is nice (so too the colour choices), and a standard cable for charging is very nice, and so too the battery life improvements and possible ergonomics improvements. The on-board storage is nice to have for those that don't want to buy a card until absolutely necessary. They can get started with less hassle.

Of course this unit is nice & selling at a bargain price (and the new model won't have OLED), so go with what you want :)

        • Good points - and yes I must have misread your posting above as you did not imply the current Vita's display was bad. But what hasn't changed? I'm assuming the CPU, RAM and architecture are the same. And why is there purportedly faster response (in action scenes for example) with the newer Vita? Is this down to the OLED display or something else?

        • source for the reportedly faster response?

        • And why is there purportedly faster response (in action scenes for example) with the newer Vita? Is this down to the OLED display or something else?

OLED displays have better responsiveness apparently.

          http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-playstation…
This review mentions visible smearing in fast-moving scenes on the new Vita compared to the OLED screen. Another review I read mentioned the same. I doubt it will be an issue for many people already used to using LCDs on many other devices (including the PSP, where I've noticed the same thing), but it is an area where the new unit is a downgrade (arguably).

    • +2

The change to a micro usb charger instead of their proprietary sony one is a pretty big factor to consider. They should have just done this originally.

      • +1

        Doesnt bother me at all

  • … they STILL don't let you use EBGames giftcards as a form of purchase online - damnit!!!

  • Argh… so online only? Would love to jump on this but I need it to arrive by Wednesday (I'm going away). If only they had it in-store.

  • Already soldout? Says not available????

      confirmed:

      Oh, no!

There is not enough available stock to add Sony PS Vita with WiFi and 3G + PS Vita 16GB Mega Pack - PS Vita to your cart.

  • damn. really wanted one, hope its not been bought by some broden

  • Arghhh, thought about it for too long, refreshed the page and it was not in my cart anymore and then it's out of stock

    • It's in stock again, I got it :D yey

  • Out stock and its only 7am!

    • It start 12 am. You are 7 hours too late. You snooze you loze

  • +3

It sold out too fast (lost a little money) so they made an 8GB version for the same price: https://www.ebgames.com.au/vita-999970-Sony-PS-Vita-with-WiF…

    • Yeah i just bought the 8GB pack.

      Still pretty good value.

    • Just thinking, wouldn't that deserve its own post, given that this deal is sort of dead with the expired tag on it, I would think few would be interested in this deal.

      • Never mind it is out of stock anyways

  • I picked this up at JB about a month ago ($199 with Killzone Mercenary) and haven't looked back.

I did pick up the mega-pack separately (8GB) and, additional games through the Good Guys sale and love this little beast.

Vita is very underrated IMO (was too expensive for a long time and not enough developer support due to low sales) but they have made a true gamers portable. I think things will pick up for this little console in 2014.

I note that Rayman Legends is only $22 via the PSN Store today until midday as part of the 12 deals to Christmas campaign. Seems to rate well - worth grabbing at that price?

    • Did you buy the 8gb mega pack online or in store? My local TGG doesn't sell it.

      • I purchased the mega-pack from EB Games - had to pick it up in-store. This was a few weeks ago.

JB (where I purchased my Vita) didn't have the megapack at all - just the Disney Pack, which also has an 8GB card but different games.

  • how is this EXPIRED? its still MONDAY.

    Mad Monday my Lama's As……

      OUT OF STOCK.
Do you know what that mean?

  • Well that's bloody depressing, but it's my own fault.

Wanted to get one of these for the Mrs. for Christmas and misread multiple times thinking the sale started at midday. Worst part is I was up at midnight so I could have checked.

    Any similar deals anywhere?

  • Omg didn't even want a Vita but I bought one… I have a 3DS XL. But the thought of remote play Battlefield 4 at work was too good to pass up for $200 and I saw it was back in stock…

  • Yep, back in stock. Looks like EB Games are rationing, a bit like Big W a few weeks ago.

Thanks! Bought the Bundle along with Persona 4 :)

  • Thanks I got it too. I don't know when ill be able to play it but for that price who can say no.

  • thanks, ordered, will get rid of the voucher later as will use USA account from my old vita i sold, now i can do PS4 remote play its going to be awesome.

  • Got one. What a good price ! hope they send it

  • Thank you EB Games for restocking, just bought the Vita bundle for a friend :)

  • couldn't resist the second time it came back into stock, bought it.

  • Damn it… i bought the 8GB this morning. Luckily i can return it on arrival.

That might be of interest to you

      • It's in the processing stage already, so it can't be cancelled.

Never mind, they refunded the postage costs to me already and I will just have to take it down to my local EB Games for a full refund.

EB Customer Service are very helpful. +1 to them.

          Hi there,

I bought the 8GB this morning also, a couple hours later the 16gb became available again.

I called up the 133 930 number above, they cancelled my 8gb over the phone, refunded me, and I repurchased the 16gb. They even threw in free express postage for the hassle.

Mine was on the processing stage too, fyi.

        • Hey mate,

Thanks for the reply - i called them up again to clarify and apparently mine had moved to the picking stage, so it was too late to be called back( i ordered mine pretty early in the piece). So it will arrive to me by end of the week.

What they have done though is upgraded both orders to express to ensure that i get them faster.

I am quite satisfied with how they have conducted themselves.

  • Out of stock now?

    Oh, no!

There is not enough available stock to add Sony PS Vita with WiFi and 3G + PS Vita 16GB Mega Pack - PS Vita to your cart.

    • Out of stock now?

      Confirmed.
      :-)

Looks like the rationing is back!

  • I'm still on the fence about buying one. I'd like to play Uncharted, I think Persona 4 might be too much for me (I've never played a Pokemon or Final Fantasy game). But the other games I don't really find interesting.

    • For $200, you can't go wrong. Uncharted is free on PS+ also. Awesome I can use the same PS+ account on my PS4 on Vita. For me remote play was the main seller though.

    • I guarantee you will love Persona 4. Id played a little Pokémon and no final fantasy but I loved it. the battles are kinda like pokemon but the rest of the game is not, but its amazing.

      • Save the money for ps4

      • +1

I bought one. After a few years of putting it off.

Goddamn you OzBargain. I didn't even need this!

  • Sold out again…. must be the third time today?

  • If your away from home, could you tether the vita to your phone for remote play, potentially getting 4g speeds from the phone connected via wireless to the vita?

      • Sweet. Does anyone have a ball park figure on know how many megabytes 1 hour of gaming tethered would be?

        • Theoretically it would be around 1GB an hour, based on how much Gaikai uses.

While it might work, the latency would be unbearable.

    • +1

Gaming over 4G connection is just not feasible. You need to be connected to the same high-quality router for remote play to work okay.

  • Available again @ 4:25pm.

Looks like they're going through cycles and holding stock back.

    Just picked one up again.

  • I was refreshing every 15 mins or so and managed to snag one.

Hopefully the deal comes to fruition!

  • Stock as of 16:50. Got one, cheers for posting!

Personally i wasnt really fussed with the Vita, esp as you have to pay extra for the memory card.
But for this price I cant really say no.

    • You won't regret it - I'm new to it (four weeks) and love it. Top notch hardware that's been a sleeper for a while… slowly waking now… :)

  • Can you make a cellular phone call with this 3G version?

  • +1

  • I was thinking about tethering my phone to the vita for remote play, hoping for a low amount of data usage…until I read this forum poster saying 544p = 18 mb/minute. Don't know how accurate it is though. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/691087-playstation-4/67624904
