  • Hi Guys, if Intel is not your thing and you want other SSD.

Let me know I see if I can get you good prices =P

    • Don't mind if i do, got any samsung evos? Preferably 1Tb for me…

      • With Total War included obviously. :P

        • +1

          lol of course =P

      • Hi ProjectZero I send you the price.

Unfortunately I can't include the Total War as that is part of the "Intel Package Promotion"

        • Very understandable about the total war thing, was just mucking about XD

    • Samsung EVO 250GB is popular because the newest controller.

We would like some 12X GB SSD at 7X to 8X level and 2XX GB at less than 170 namely the V300 Ultra plus under 170 include shipping :p

      • wait… the 250 uses a different controller to the other sizes?

        • EVO ( New controller )
          840 and 840 Pro ( Old controller )

840 Pro is still a faster drive then the EVO

        • Oh lol, i thought he meant that Evo 250 uses a different controller compared to 500, 750, 1Tb.

        • 250 and up uses new controller, 120GB uses old controller.

      • Sorry can't do $170 + Free Shipping.

        I can do $170 http://www.mwave.com.au/product/kingston-ssdnow-v300-240gb-2…
        pick up @ mwave?

And for the samsung evo 250gb $182 pick up at Mwave

        • Anything you can do for the 500g or 750g evo? Quite tempted by the 250g but not too sure how long it'll last… especially with me planning on buying watch dogs (supposedly 55g)…

  • Hi rep - what's the difference between this and "Intel 520S 240GB/SATA3/R 550MBs,W 520MBs/25nm/OEM" listed at umart? Umart says 520S.

    • +1

That just come with the SSD only. Retail box comes with some extra stuff.

Its like when you buy a internal HDD is OEM only come with HDD no sata cable

  • +1

Retail comes with cables and bracket so saves you about $6

    • So S just means retail?

      • +1

S doesn't mean anything just translates to 520 series

        • Thanks alot!

  • Not a bad price at all, considering the game averages around $45 on sale on Amazon, and $60 as standard. Now to convince myself that I don't need it.

  • Be aware of 3.98 credit card handling fee to bring the total to 202.98 rather than 199 for this.

    • If you want to avoid the surcharge simply select BPAY or Bank Transfer =P

  • Rep:

Anything 120gb+. Anything that beats an MSY price with your postage to SYD included (considering I can jump on the deadly treadly and be over there in 15mins for zero cost).

I got the need and the money…Whatcha got?

Nice price on the 520 BTW, but too big and too much $$ for me.

  • What is the expected read and write speed on SATA2 ports?

    • +1

Max Sequential Read Up to 550 MB/s (SATAIII)
      Up to 280 MB/s (SATAII)
Max Sequential Write Up to 520 MB/s (SATAIII)
      Up to 260 MB/s (SATAII)

Bolded for visibility (not being snarky ;-)

      • This isn't the speed you see when you transfer data right? You have to use a tool such as CrystalDiskMark and compare to those figures?

        • Ah, that's what you're looking for. I suppose you could compare to benchmarks, but I don't know if they're all that indicative of real world performance anyway. Do the actual figures matter? It'll be faster than any HDD, however you look at it, and SATA3 SSD's will all be comparable as the SATA2 port is the bottleneck.

        • I just want to know whether is it reasonable to upgrade to a SATAII motherboard. Just want to know figures to back it up.

Currently, I get approx 120mb/s (desktop to desktop transfer). But using CystalDiskMark i get around 215mb/s. Not sure which is is correct.

Would be good to know, to have comparable values and methods of testing.

    Thanks OP - purchased

Just ordered one. I was tossing up this against the Samsung Evo 240GB. The Samsung is newer and maybe a little faster. The big difference for me was that this uses MLC Nand while the Samsung uses TLC Nand. MLC is more reliable than TLC hence the 5yr vs 3yr warranty. I decided reliability trumped speed especially when it would be unlikely that I would notice the speed difference.
