Dell Latitude D620 Laptop Core Duo 1.83GHz 2G Ram (Ex-government) only $629.9 - Easy Toys

35

Personally think it's a good deal. Core Duo T2400 (1.83GHz) + 2G Ram is still comparable to these latest models: http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/laptops/ with T6400 or lower. I've been told many times that Core Duo is only 10% slower than Core 2 Duo with the same GHz, and only on these 3D rendering, encoding tasks - http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2808&p=1…. The 14" wide screen and full size keyboard is definitely much more practical compare to netbooks. Please share your comments with us. Thanks!

Also, thanks to everyone who commented on yesterday's Dell GX620 deal: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/12619, whether positive or negative. It's been very helpful for us to understand more about products and consumers.

When it comes to used laptops, a useful comparison website is ebay
The average price of all completed listings for Dell Latitude D620 that actuallty sold was $570.
4 out of the 6 completed listings that sold were cheaper than this one.
So how does this qualify as a "bargain"?
This website is supposed to be for items that are at least selling below the average price!!

  • Anyone interested in this should note: CPU is only slightly better than T1600 duo-core celeron. Also has older/slower 60GB harddisk and who knows how good/bad the battery wear level is. Positive is it has a 14.1" smaller form factor. So neither +/- on this from me.

If 14.1/15.6" doesn't matter, Compaq CQ60 sold at DSE for $748 http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/Product/XC43… offers better new value, with faster/bigger harddisk, warranty and no battery wear.

Sorry, but negative from me too. for not much more you can get brand new with onsite warranty and for less you can get better spec used. Also as mentioned above once you factor in a battery (as these one will probably need one soon) it's not good value, I know as I have a work supplied D620 and it has already had the battery replaced and quite a few in office have had their batteries replaced as well.

    • This bunch of laptops have relatively good battery condition too. Tested 2 of them, both lasted for more than 1 and a half hour.

Price is a little high due to the current economic situation… Big companies and government are slow in replacing their IT supplies. So dual core laptops are rare in the market. and we really struggle in bargain the price down.

      cheers

  • Neither + or minus from me
This may have limited appeal for some but I wouldn't buy it
I think this is the maximum price anyone should pay for a used laptop

As always though thank you to the original poster for bringing it to our attention
If no one took the time to recommend items this site wouldn't work - so Thanks :)

I wouldn't pay > $600 for a used Dell laptop, they are notorious.

    • +1

      me neither.

      • same here. the D600 series laptops are also notorious for having items like keyboard keys dropping off, PCMCIA slots crapping themselves and HDD popping up with numerous errosrous errors

        • a neg from me, too.

        • I actually have a D600 prior to my current D630, and personally I think it's a world of difference.

D630 is a basic upgrade from D620 here, which has a completely different form factor than D600. My D600 has hinge broken a couple of times, dead motherboard, etc. The keyboard is bad and the body is flex. On the other hand D630 is very solid and the keyboard is great to type on (I coded most of OzBargain on this!! :). D620 is very similar to D630 from what I've heard, except the LCD is not bright enough.

          • @scotty: Well, looks like easy toys will be banned for excessive negs this time. Another lesson learnt! Stay away from used laptops, stay away from Dell..

One thing I like D620 is its trackpoint. Probably the only trackpoint system available on non-thinkpads. Coders should know how the importance of keep most of the fingers on the keys while using pointing system. How about you Scotty? do you use touch pad or trackpoint?

            • @tao326: I use a mouse LOL :) Never got into those Track Stick thingy (used to have a Toshiba Satelite that has it as well).

  • Do note that it's a Dell LATITUDE D620 (not the low end Inspiron or other Acer/Compaq equivalent). I have a D630 for work and it's a very solid business laptop.

Edit: yes but I have to agree that the spec is not impressive.

    • But brand new Inspiron with warranty is going to be a better deal than 3 year old (typical lease life) Latitude.

  • LATITUDE D620 is a very solidly build notebook. I have been using and abusing mine for years. The deal is neutral in my eyes since less than 100 bucks more gets you a new entry level laptop, these are not going to as solid as Latitude but new is new and second hand might have been abused.
