Pretty good, I just come back from Bali flying Jetstar though and would never again. Tiny seats, expensive and poor quality food and service non existant. Plane was also very old coming back did not even have seatback entertainment (which you have to pay for anyway). Plus extra baggage charges etc all add up. Garuda is better.

"Tiny seats" (easily fixed. Pay for extra leg room and you will stop complaining)

"Old aircraft" (Rubbish. JQ is less than 10 years old, so too is the oldest of their aircraft.
10 years is is not considered old in aviation terms.)

"Did not even have seatback entertainment" ( You had the choice to pay $10 for unlimited movies and programs but you decided not too. That is not the fault of the airline).

"Garuda is better" (Garuda is a full service airline. What is your point in comparing apples with watermelons?)

      • To add to what you have already said.

"Tiny seats" (Really? Last I checked Jetstar used the standard Airbus A330 8 abreast seat layout in a 2-4-2 configuration, giving a 17.5" width, standard for most carriers, even Singapore Airlines. The pitch is also 31", again an industry standard, found on Qantas, Lufthansa, all the american carriers, British airways, the list goes on.)

"Old aircraft" (Jetstar flies internationally on 10 Airbus A330s, none of which pre date 2006. Please tell me how that is "old" by airline standards, especially with Qantas flying 747s more than 10 years old and 767s that were ordered before some people on this forum likely existed.)

"Did not even have seatback entertainment" (I'm sorry sir, shall I fluff your pillow and fetch a glass of our finest bubbly with that $500 return fare?)

"Garuda is better" (Yes, of course they are. If you only wanted to pay for a corolla, but kept complaining about how it pails in comparison to your friends new lexus, why didn't you buy the lexus?

I've flown with Jetstar to Japan a couple of times on the same aircraft and the seats were fine.

    • I don't want to get into a flame war but I think Jetstar is a little bit better than Garuda in terms of safety (but not SIA standard tho). I was talking to a 'lovely' American that actually does the licensing agreements for the seat back entertainment. From the sounds of it, the movie licensing costs are more than grabbing a DVD from blockbuster/video ezy.

I also enjoy hearing "I'll never fly them again". People often forget their solemn vows the next time a sale comes up.

    • Dreamliner will be used on the MEL-DPS route starting from next week, though of course the service won't be any different.

      • That's not necessarily a good thing. The Dreamliner has 30" seat pitch which is one inch less legroom than the A330 aircraft they have been flying.

Why is it every time I think of discount carriers using the Dreamliner, I get the image of a live sheep export boat?

  • pitty the deals does not include dates from the 23rd April on…..easter concludes on the 21st April i think.

    • Almost no cheap flights in April… School holidays in Oz for all but first week of April, until 5 May.

Most cheap flight dates end at the start of April (not the 21st!) & start again between 29 April & 8 May.

No need to reduce prices in a time of peak demand.

[I'm hoping for another cheap flight to Tokyo at the start of April for the beautiful Sakura (Cherry Blossom). So have been swatting up on the likely sale dates.]

  • $1490 for 2 people MEL -> Honolulu return end of April for a week.
    Good deal??

    • I reckon it's a solid deal.

  • Last year the prices I looked at were better for the Boxing Day Sale.
Got Gold Coast <-> Japan for $420.
    Think I'll wait.
