  • Good deal, anyone knows what HDD inside, hope it is not Maxtor?

  • Worth mentioning there's free delivery too. Shame they haven't put the brand/model up, it may be a Seagate but then it might just be a random drive in an ASTONE case. Would be a good idea to call them/e-mail them tomorrow for further details.

    • i suspect its an astone case too, but would need confirmation.

      EDIT: i've emailed them, we will find out tomorrow.

      • Let us know please, thanks.

      well one shouldn't be surprised if they got a rock

  • lol one thing i don't get is maxtor is owned by seagate and the quality is so much craper

  • Maxtor used to be the most reliable brand a few years ago… before it is taken over by Seagate…

  • i emailed them and they said its the seagate retail i said above

  • careful while ordering with credit cards. they are charging extra for Credit cards;

    so if ur placing order with Credit cards; the Credit Card Surcharge Fee: Price: $4.59 and the total amount charged is : 157.58 AUD

  • What is the difference between this Seagate external hard drive and Seagate Free Agent drive? I just bought Samsung 1TB from 8289 last week and put it into a Vantec Nexstar enclosure, totally cost me $157 (125+32), looks like this one is $4 cheaper, thinking if I need to buy another 1TB.

  • Finally placed an order in 9289. This product (Seagate External Desktop Drive) looks like a basic version of the Free Agent drive, and is relatively new from Seagate (fist available at Amazon on March 3, 2009). Could not find many reviews online, there are two positive reviews at newegg.com (sell for US$115), and a reseller in UK indicates that the drive inside is 7200rpm and 32MB cache. There are some pictures of this drive in this blog: http://hanna.blog.ithome.com.tw/post/1615/25380 (website from Taiwan, in Chinese).

  • no more stock><

  • Can anyone confirm if the hard drive is actually the one in the picture? They've taken down the picture to the actual HDD on the website shortly after this was posted and there is no model number and i have a sneaky suspicion that it could be the free agent one (which imo is ugly).

    • The free agent one may be ugly (the old model), but more expensive than the External Desktop (just some more softwares I think). I do not mind if they do send me the free agent. I placed the order on Monday, the status has been frozen at "full payment confirmed" since Tuesday. I think they probably wait for stock from the supplier.

  • Anyone received theirs yet? Offer ends tonight.
