Does the Coles voucher still work even though the deal has been removed?

The fuel voucher..

Mod: The Coles Express fuel voucher was requested to be removed by Coles due to a violation of its T&C. Many servos are rejecting these vouchers. Please do not post links or ask for a copy of the voucher.

  • I suspect not. The last few posts before the deal was taken off said it didn't. Probably the code was invalidated in their computer system.

    • +1

I just came back from successfully filling up about 20 minutes ago, and came back to thank the OP. Ah well, thanks anyway whoever it was! :-)

Edit: Just read the rest of the thread. It wouldn't scan so the guy entered it manually.

  • +18

GAHHH Just came back from filling up and it was rejected…. hurt so much…

    • +14

their fuel was more expensive than average too. lost $10 on the tank :(

  • +1

I don't reckon it does, it didn't work for me at 12.15pm

  • Oh no, was getting excited and was about to head out to fill up. When did it stop working?

  • +1

Do these fuel vouchers only work one time? I've got one lying around for 17c

    • +2

The OP was referring to a particular voucher worth 22c that was posted as a deal and cancelled at Coles's request.

      • +1

No I mean in general. If I copied my voucher I received, can I use it more than once?

        • +1

I'm guessing not. It says that original vouchers only I think, and it says to surrender the voucher anyway.

        • I think the docket ones are once off. But the one before was for online purchase so I guess you can re-print.

        • Give it a go :D

  • Nope I just tried and the guy said that the voucher has already been used. I lost money this bargain… that's a first.

  • +1

Can anybody point me in the direction of the T&C's that Coles are suggesting were in violation?

  • +2

Supposedly, these are the terms and conditions.
    http://www.colesexpress.com.au/about-us/coles-express-fuel-d…

    • What was the qualifying amount?

      • Wasn't any. Provenance of voucher unclear.

        • Were they doing the DSE? For hoarding staff only?

        • My guess is it was a staff reward but somebody looked at the code and realised it was generic, with 10 7's in front.

      • Some Ozb'er Coles store rep posted a coupon for 22c/L off, it wasn't your usual $30 spend for an 8c/L off.

  • +6

I tried it 30 minutes ago, first scan said it was expired, second scan said it was already used. Thankfully the lady put it through manually. I just kept my mouth shut, had am 8 cent one as a backup ready to go.

    Cheers OzBargain :D

  • no longer works

  • +3

Tried an hour ago he scanned and he said it's already used.. I asked him to try again and he pressed something to make it work. And then he said he had to take it away from me.

  • +1

Can I have it confirmed no longer works please?

    • +1

Doesn't work but they can manual override if lucky

    • +1

i can confirm no longer works tried 30mins ago

    • If you want to try your luck and have them refuse to accept it and pay full price, go for it.

    • +1

I was told the voucher has been used. The attendant asked if I had used it, I said no and he processed it manually and kept the voucher.

  • +1

It worked for me about 25 minutes ago at Gold Coast

    • +1

and my mum just used it at mudgeeraba gold coast a couple of minutes ago

      • +2

Ah you guys are not on DST so things happen later up there. ;) :)

  • +4

I handed this out to 3 people in the servo, trying to do something nice. And then i line up behind them and we all got denied and told it had been used T___T
Felt so awkward when someone tried to use it and got told it didn't work (_ _")

Confirmed NOT working in Newcastle Twin Servos NSW just before start of Freeway.

    • Luckily I was there around 12 before it got canned.. At that time the operator didn't even look at the print out and just scanned it

    • +1

You're a kind fella. Anyway, you have started a story that those people will tell their grandchildren about - kind of like Robin Hood but giving out fake coins unknowingly

  • +1

It worked for me around 1:15pm in marsfield nsw, filled half tank and saved me $6.80

  • +28

Tried it, failed. Lady said she is keeping the document for police. Yea okay.?? for what offence lady. You dumb dumb

    • Stolen voucher?

    • +8

LOL, did you offer her your mobile so she can call them straight away.

    • +14

I'm sure the police will come, sirens blaring. WTF

RX3Nebular: I'm just waiting for a mate discount

    • +2

I think I probably would have burst out laughing.

    • +4

Lady said she is keeping the document for police

You should have reported her for theft, she stole your property…

    • +1

keeping it for the police? LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just filled up a whole tank at around 3:00pm. Thanks

  • I confirm I used the voucher successfully at 16:30 at glen Waverley.

    It was entered in manually

  • +1

I would guess they cant cancel it as its probably a generic voucher code, to do so would cancel it on "legitimate" users. had same issue when I tried to use it, attendant said it came up already used, asked have I used it before. I said I hadn't he tried again, same issue, then he pressed button and I was given the 22c off.

So from that and others comments above, guess they are trying first to say its been used, then if you hold your ground (nicely) they pay up. Its a try on by them to see if you give up first.

  • +3

Just came back from campbelltown Shell near Officeworks. It works. I also gave one to the car behind. She was very appreciative!!!

  • Flatly rejected at Fivedock NSW at about 5.00pm despite my ardent protests. The service station manager rang Coles Express customer service and gave me the receiver to talk to them. What a joke! Phone was unattended - outside their business hours.

  • I gave two vouchers to one in Perth and one in Melbourne and both told it was canceled\used already after filling up :(
I was going when read it had expired

  • Worked at one servo at 11.30. Got my other car at 12.30 didn't work. Lady said it was a scam lol

  • +2

Dam the Op should have hidden the deal from Coles

  • Very disappointed I lost a few dollars today.

  • +4

Tried about 1200 hours in QLD and told it had been used already. Console operator asked me if I wanted it back. I asked "What, so I can not use it again?" :-(

    • At least you hadn't lost your sense of irony…

      • It's been forged from the finest Valyrian irony.

  • +4

lol people scrounging for petrol discounts - what have these petrol companies done to us!

    • -2

They have given you cheap petrol all these years ;)

  • +2

The voucher is blacklisted in the Coles Express POS systems. Lists as already used and tells the operator to advise the customer to call Customer Care if they have issues with it being rejected. Anyone calling Customer Care about the voucher will be told that their voucher was fraudulently obtained so it is invalid.
You might get the occasional operator who won't give a toss and will just put a discount through manually, but I'd suggest anyone trying to use one better have another (valid) voucher on them unless they want to pay full price when it gets rejected.

    • +2

unless they want to pay full price when it gets rejected.

Just tell them you don't want the fuel without the voucher and they can go outside and suck out the petrol

      • Actually it might be interesting (although its not something I would be bothered with), is to do this at a busy time, and ring customer care (using their phone as you left your mobile at home and why have to pay the mobile rates to call) all this while your car sits on the driveway of the servo, blocking access to the pump you used, especially when customer service is closed as someone above pointed out. Wonder who would break first??

But given we all know the hassles this is now creating is it worth it?

  • +1

Worked for me at 1.45pm in Sydney - a nice $10.45 discount. The bar code didn't print out fully so the attendant just pushed a button to access the 22 cent discount - cudos to him! Thanks to the OP for posting. Something tells me Coles can afford it!

  • I wouldnt be trying to use it if you have it. I already did at around midday, the lady said it failed to scan, entered it manually, she said it was used already, didnt ask me anything, just said it like she was talking to herself, then asked the other attendant, she said there was some 22c offer so just staple the receipt to it and gave me my discount of $16. I came back too update but post was gone.

  • It's sad but was good while it was working.

With next year our good ol' ACCC helped us with the cost of living by limiting discount to just 4c (sarcasm), this final voucher will end the good run of petrol discounting that has been running for more than 5 years…

    Thanks OP.

    • +4

You're paying higher grocery prices for them to discount petrol. Fine for big spenders at Coles/ Woolies, not so good for others.

      • +2

and reducing the amount of competition as independent players don't have a grocery business to subsidise their cheap fuel prices. Just imagine all the complaining if Coles and Woolworths were the only two service station retailers.

        • +1

Apparently IGA had a reverse system, at leaast for a while as i have no idea if they still do. Basically you took your fuel dockets from any servo (including woolies and coles servos) and they would give discounts on groceries to a similar amount based on litres of fuel purchased.

So if IGA was offering 0.05c per litre, and you got 60lt of fuel, then you would get a discount of $3 on your groceries. Clever.

      • +2

Anyone who shops at Coles/Woolies will (or should) know some of their items will be more expensive.

In my case, I only shopped at Coles for nappies at $29-$30 per box and always buy on specials (eg: occasional $4 for 2 Gatorade etc)

For these sort of items, I don't think elsewhere would be any cheaper as for example Huggies nappies price, the lowest I can find is $29 per box so it makes no different where I shop.

You can also get tissue boxes for $1 per box. Again, elsewhere wouldn't make much different.

So purchasing at lowest cost possible with the added benefit of discount voucher. If there is an ocassion where the fuel voucher becomes 40c for $80 spend, then I would just buy 2 boxes of nappies and other cheap stuffs to make up to $80 (and no more).

Thus I believe the higher grocery prices argument can be helped but abolished vouchers (or making it impotent) will definitely affect people adversely.

Plus I don't believe they will reduce the grocery price after the vouchers gone, they are after all duopoly.

    • Don't know what the neg for… or it's just a form of disagree.

Either way, the post is relevant so if there is a reason why this is negged, please point it out.

  • Filled up at 5pm. Guy said it wasn't real.
    Huh?
Said a mass email went out to all servos to say it was counterfeit.
Seems "Fuel Fairy" created a new OzB account and photoshopped a fake voucher for the lulz.
    Jokes on us.
Coles prob ended up in front for today's extra custom, despite the morning winners.

    • Well, if these events hit the papers tomorrow or anyone sees an official letter from Coles it would be good if you could post a link to it.

Fuel Fairy must know something about both the numbers and the barcode generators in order to produce a fake like this.

      • Barcode generation is mostly generic, there's plenty of online generators. Maybe the OP just got lucky with a random code string…

        • … Maybe the OP just got lucky with a random code string…

Random Unlikely as they would have had to test it first, and that would be a rather expensive exercise on their behalf, buying some fuel each time to test. Unless they worked as a console operator themselves and could test on customers who weren't using vouchers with a purchase

        • +3

You guys over think this, this would have been a legitimate voucher that they have just decided to share.

The voucher follows a set sequence, eg. First 4 number are store number, next 6 are check out and time of purchase, next six are docket expiry and the last 4 are gas and fuel discount amount. This was clearly a home delivery voucher as it didn't follow The set sequence and was most likely awarded for purchasing over $130 or something to that effect.

A docket can be used again and again but They can track it and a team will get fired if they are using it to give fraudulent discounts.

The only vouchers that now say they have already been redeemed in the system are the Coles home delivery vouchers and this was only recently been implemented as people were obviously been abusing the system.

        • I can't see that this was a legitimate home delivery voucher. If it was genuine then it was a special high value voucher given to a staff member.

Coles online orders can't be used to get flybuys targeted offers for high value fuel vouchers. I checked the terms and conditions last night on my offer for the week. I'm beginning to believe that it was a fake produced just to get a reaction.

I don't know the rules on the recent general 17 cent promotion at Coles. I don't know if this was for online as well. I haven't heard of any general 22 cent vouchers issued by Coles.

        • +1

people were obviously been abusing the system

I don't see how people buying petrol with the voucher is considered as abusing the system?

        • +2

They were photocopying them to use multiple times, as it is printed on regular paper its easy to forge.

  • It worked for my an hour ago at Sunnybank though……

  • +4

I can't wait until next year when all the fuel discounts will be banned. (only the 4c voucher will be allowed)

  • +1

I used one around 10:30 this morning and it scanned OK. I was going to use another for my other car, but when I read that the offer had been canned I thought I had lucked out.
But when I saw that some people were still able to get the discount as of 6 this evening I thought that I would give it another shot.
So I used another one at a different servo about an hour ago which didn't scan. The operator told me that Coles must've issued a bunch of dodgy codes yesterday, because a lot of people had been trying to use them all day but they hadn't been working - she just pushed the 22c/litre discount button and gave me the discount anyway.

So depending on where you are and the attitude of the operator YMMV. But I really don't like the chances of it working tomorrow.

  • +3

Good on everyone for using it.

  • used it this morning cheers

  • +1

This worked for me about 4 hours ago. Although the attendant wasn't all to happy about it. Kept asking me if it's a copy. So I'm like. "What do you mean a copy?". He goes "Is this photocopied?". I reply "No, it's printed."
Incidentally saw 2 women with these vouchers go to pay at this servo as well. Had a bit of a giggle.

    • +2

I was going to go back in the morning with a 20L jerry and another voucher… Should I risk it? This is $4.40 we're talking about…

    • +1

"No, it's printed." LOL. Im think to go n buy a plastic jerry can n fill it up. I didnt have time to do it yesterday. But after read all the comment, i shall send my beloved missus out to do it.

  • Has anyone had any luck this morning?

  • +1

I used it at 7.15am in Vermont, VIC. wouldn't scan so the guy just manually overrode it…. no questions asked….

  • +1

yesterday afternoon got told it was an illegal fake copy, Telling me how all the 7's in there means its fake.
And the outside of the code is a different colour to the paper (I photocopied it)

If it was fake, How come it worked in their system?

  • +2

    Forest Hill 10:17am today.

Didn't go through, chick did manual override no questions asked.

  • +2

Didn't work for me…was told it had been used. I ran out to the car and got an 8c one from my shopper dockets and all ok.

    Embarrassing though.

Would have been nice if the OP gave history about the voucher. My wife works at coles, so maybe she was entitled anyway??

  • Just lost $5 - Didn't realise it was taken off from Ozbargain

    P:s The operator was crap.

    • I meant service station operator!!

  • yeah used mine at findon, SA yesterday didn't work the operator was being a b**** wouldn't even try manually entering it at all. as above, I reckon it depends on the operator.

  • Wife just reported using successfully in northern Syd (I didnt know she had it with her).

    • +1

ah. working in northern syd while refused in western sydney. typical capitalist shenanigans ;)

  • Just used it successfully at Gardenvale (Melbourne).
Before filling up, I went to the attendant and asked if the voucher was o.k. to use.
He said yes, and when I went to pay there were no issues. Saved about $6.50.

  • +1

I had about 20 of these come into work today and refused all of them. I really hope no one ends up getting fired for letting people use these things.
