840

Previous deal was 3 for $20 + $10 shipping. Now they are down to 3 for $15 plus shipping. Last time, i purchased 6 of them to offset the $10 shipping cost. I haven't tried them out, but they are good stocking fillers :-) Over $100 spend gets you free shipping

Towels are not so good :-(

  • +1

They're quite absorbent, but are not soft at all. Nothing beats cotton still.

I'm still in discussions with Kathmandu customer service who don't want to honour me the previous $6.66 per towel deal. They say they need an order # for proof, if anyone could message me to help out that would be greatly appreciated :)

    • +17

Well obviously without an order number/receipt its impossible to verify your complaint. I'd recommend finding it, if you made an account you should have an order history

  • Got mine fromt he last deal. They really are quite light and absorbent but as others state they don't feel great - kind of like I'm rubbing myself with a piece of rubber.

    • +1

It's better than sandpaper, at least. Marginally.

      • +3

Just don't rub the nether regions and you'll be right.

        • +5

          Might start a fire?

  • +7

I disagree. They are very quick drying and lightweight and good for travelling

    • +10

These are built for travelling. Go backpack for a few months and you'll know exactly what you want in a towel.

  • Are these microfibre & quick drying?

    • +3

Yes. If you travel a lot and want super light then I would highly recommend it. If however want to be pampered etc then avoid.

  • +3

Got 3 last time. Was so impressed that I was considering getting more at full price. This deal came at the perfect time.

Those who are complaining about the towel might be missing the point on what they're for and how to use them. As "normal" towels they fare badly. If you wipe yourself down with them as if you were using a chammy you will see how well they work. And they dry super quick too. As a lightweight, full size towel for hiking or other weight sensitive applications they are superb.

  • I travel most of the year, only with carry-on. One of my favorite travel items is the Kathmandu microfiber face cloth for $2.99. Soft, dries fast. But the microfiber range is quite different to this deal's ones.
    http://kathmandu.com.au/microfibre-face-cloth-blue.html

Amazing drying for a small towel. Use it to dry off after a shower, mop up sweat or wash down in tropical climates. Only issue is it is a little hard to dry the middle of the back (without some help). Happily been using these since 2006.

    • How long (min/hrs) does it take to dry approx. for these nylon, microfiber fabrics?

I'm thinking of picking up some quick drying clothes of similar nature for future trips (having used normal cotton clothing in the past).

      • +1

Can't comment on these cheapies, but my tiny microfiber one is dry within 30 minutes with a breeze. They feel fairly dry after ringing out after washing.

One of the worst things I can think of in travel is packing a wet towel. It will stink out your bag & clothes. Travelling most of the year, the convenience of a good quick drying towel is paramount. Small & light weight is a bonus. My washer one had anti-bacteria treatment.

    • What's the difference in material between the microfibre face towel and active towel?

      • They're both made of the same material (except the Microfibre says Polyamide instead of nylon - both the same thing). The active towel is 25% lighter, so based on that, i'd say it's smoother (less bulk). Really you'd need to feel them side by side for a true comparison

      • They are very different materials.

The large towels are smooth. You'd question how good they work but they do deceptively well.

The face towels have a soft pile more similar to traditional towels.

I think they paired each well for each job: for a face towel I like having a soft feel. But for weight/performance the smooth big towels can't be beat.

    • yep, i've got one of these (except the large towel version). It's great for travel, but isn't a replacement for a bath towel at home.

  • +1

There is no way I would use these travel towels for home use! Good soft towels are available on sales - much nicer feel.

eg fluffier Target Bath Towel $9 (cheaper when on sale), so 3 are $2 more than this deal if you pick up.

Also microfiber towels are a pain at the beach - they pick up sand and rubbish, which is hard to remove.

Most people think you need a large towel to dry yourself - not so. Towels are bulky when traveling. Big towels are mainly for the beach or to wrap around yourself on the way back from the bathroom (if anyone is around).

So if you want a fluffy big towel, travel towels are not what you are looking for. Travel requirements are for fast drying, easy care, small and light weight. Travel towels quickly tend to get thinner & rougher with use.

There is a range of quality in travel towels from barely dries, bloody rough, clingy chamois, to soft & comfy. Drying time varies. I have a box with so many travel towels, most I never want to use again. But the Kathmandu microfiber face cloth is the best of the lot.

  • Are these same in store or online only?

    • I checked in store last deal. 3 for 1 was available on towels, but they had no stock of these. You could try their clearance stores.

  • +2

    Thanks Ordered.

RRP $60 for 1, but you can buy them for $5 with this deal and they are still making money. One of the reasons I hardly buy gear from Kathmandu.

    • +2

lol wut, you want them to lose money selling stuff to you?

      • +5

I think hes saying their RRPs are overinflated, so he avoids kathmandu at all costs.

        • +6

Not at all costs. If over $5 he does.

  • +1

They should really price their product more properly…

    • +5

Yeah, they really should do it more properly

      • +3

I wish the price was more properly.

          Grandma Nazi's at it Again

        • +3

your write. Anyone who thinks it's worthwhile making an effort is clearly a Nazi.

Solid argument you've got there champ

        • Thanks man! I like it when people concede with dignity.

  • +2

    Medium size also available 3 for 1 @ $8 + $10 shipping
    http://www.kathmandu.com.au/active-towel-medium-azure.html

edit: Forgot to add that you can also mix blue & red colours & Med/XL in the same order so its not req. that all 3 are same colour.

  • Hey,

Just ordered the XL in Blue. XL will be good for your gym bag or if you are an active runner type at lunch during work.

Think about it this way, the dimensions is as follows:

    Medium: 40cm L x 60cm W
    Extra Large: 75cm L x 150cm W

Extra Large is more of a beach towel size. It will be easy to throw it into your gym bag in comparison to normal beach towel which ends up weighing a tonne once you are leaving the gym/shower. If you use a Medium, it will be too small and feel like you are drying yourself just like your car after washing it.

I assume hiking would be the same as I am taking these towels from a gym/running perspective.

    • XL makes sense when it is this light.

On my last hike I also used the XL as a "pillow cover" - big enough to wrap around spare clothes to make a great pillow. Was very comfy; beats any traveling pillow I've ever used.

  • Got myself 3x Blue XL Active's and 2x Microfibre Face.

    Thanks!

  • +1

Seems their checkout system does not calculate the correct cost when mixing 3x M and 3x XL sizes.
It adds 3-for-1 on each individual size, but when 3x each of the different sizes are added the total is not correct.

    • Yep looks like it's buy 1 get 2 of the "cheapest" free. So when you buy 3XL and 3M, you actually have to pay for 2XL to get 1XL and 3M free.

  • I dont get it… I can get 1 of each for $32 delivered or I can get x3 x3 of each and pay $39….

So does that mean 6x3=18 for $39
or 2x3=6 for $32? inc delivery?

  • Any one wants to split delivery cost NSW,sydney, CBD. I'm ready, ??

    • I am ready to split but you are not accepting private messages. Please send me a message to organise.

I am after Active Towels XL - 1x Azure, 2x Cayenne ($14.99), 1x Microfibre Face Cloth Blue ($2.99).

  • over $100 but shipping isn't free…..?

  • Does anyone know if this is an online only deal or is it also available in store?

  • order one. thanks op

  • Can I just confirm the material is microfibre??

I'm looking for some large microfibre cloths to dry my car after a wash. These could be a great option given their size

  • Hmmm… just released I placed an order for 1, not 3. "Activate this deal by placing three Microfibre Towels into your cart". Sent an email to support to amend my order. Surely this is a mistake commonly made.

  • i use these for gym / swimming.

Take up barely any space in my backpack

  • Is this instore pricing also or just online ?

  • +1

Just went into outlet store in Fortitude valley and grabbed some. So yep worked instore there

  • -1

It's just a towel why is it so expensive???

    • +3

dude the towel dries you by itself, you dont even need to use your hands.

      Follow my instructions:

      1) Lay towel on floor
      2) Roll wet body around on it

      • I bought it anyway (at Birkenhead Point Syd). Some douchebag lady tried to sell it to me for 59.95 for three even though it's clearly noted on the paper to hold it for me for 15. Think she can outsmart me!!!

  • thanks op worked in store fine for me.

  • can this be used as a microfiber towel replacement for your car? or not recommended?

  • Just checked at Chadstone. This is online only deal :(

Edit: According to them at least. Maybe it's online + Outlets only?

    • No problems in-store at Camberwell.

    • I think they bs'd you I got six at burnley

      • I ordered online yesterday :( Wasted $10 for nothing. I could have just went to southland instead..

        • $10 for your time it's not waste… look at the bright side :)

  • daiso has microfibre towels (120 x 55cm) for $2.80

pretty cheap on ebay too. eg. 150 x 70cm for less than $5 including postage from hong kong (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181189415416)

don't come with the mesh pouch, but they're cheap too if you need them

  • Did anyone not receive an invoice from Kathmandu?
As I purchased, got my "payment processed" email from PayPal, but nothing from Kathmandu.. And no it's not in my Spam folder either..

    • I received two emails from Kathmandu - an order confirmation and an invoice. These arrived within a minute of purchasing, as did the Paypal email. So probably worth following up with them.

      • Appreciate the reply, I'll shoot them an email now.

  • cheers, ordered

  • Anyone know when this is running till?

There's a Kathmandu around the corner from me so I'm hoping they can match the price in-store. However, I don't want to miss out on this special :/

  • got 3 XL and 3 M from SYD TOWNHALL for $22.98, just remember 3 items at a invoice at a time.

  • My apologies for my previous comment, I guess I didn't word it properly. I have my own order # details, they need someone else's order # to prove they were sold at the price of $6.66 each, as they aren't taking my word for it. If no one can help all good I'll cop it on the chin.

    • Can you show them a bank statement?

  • Slightly off topic but are the inflatale beds decent value?

    http://www.kathmandu.com.au/roamer-single-airbed-v2-red-char…

Half price sounds good but these towels half price would be $30!

  • +1

Woohoo! Was hoping this would come back!

  • Grabbed 3, hoping to see it in the new year!

  • Great deal… Unfortunately, when I try to add 3 towels to my cart, it always prices it at the original price, so at checkout it shows $59.98, instead of $14.99.

Has anyone else had this issue?

    • Maybe sold out online? Considering the deal was posted nearly 2 days & 4000 clicks ago…

  • Got shipping confirmation just now. Shipped by AustPost Express. Should arrive tomorrow.

  • Spoke to customer support today, they said that the 3-for-1 was in error and should have only been available when the item was at full price. Lets hope they honour it.

    • I received notification today that my order has been shipped, so I'm holding a fair whack of hope!

      • Mine has already been dispatched & in transit, tracking no. is working so I'm fairly sure they're honouring it for the early buyers.

    • Yep, they're honouring it. Order received about an hour ago. From ordering to delivery under 24hrs - I'm impressed!

Very different feel to the microfibre towels, but will be perfect for a backpacking trip through the Philippines in April.

    • that's wrong, they have done this deal @ $20 for 3 x towel before, check/search OzBargain history…..

  • So I just received my package for the towels. I ordered three red and three blue. Only one of each showed up… Has anyone else received their towels yet?

    • Yep. Ordered 2 blue and 1 Red and received all 3 as ordered. Contact them maybe?

  • Wow, didn't even realise it was express post. They just arrived here in Adelaide in less than 24 hours from order. Unheard of!

    Thanks Kathmandu!

  • YMMV, but I cheekily 'returned' one of these active towels to a store to upgrade it to the full blown Microfibre Deluxe Towel. RRP is $79.98 on these bad boys, and are a really good travel towel (as opposed to almost chamois that the active towels are).

Kid on duty said no, I pleaded it was a christmas present that I asked for but she got the wrong one so I didnt have the receipt to be able to return it (policy is - no receipt, no return), and the manager on duty reluctantly approved it, charging me 1/3rd of the difference between RRP ($6.67). He wasn't happy about it and moaned and groaned cos of the 3-for-1 sale going on… but he did it anyway.

Now I have two active towels for use beachside & as a makeshift pillow cover, and a Microfibre Deluxe towel for everyday shower use on the trip for $21.66. This is exactly what I wanted for an upcoming trip to the Philippines!

    Massive thanks OP!
