    Got mine about two weeks ago and cracked it open straight away.
    It's a WD Green - WD30EZRX if memory serves me right.
    The SATA/USB connector is held on with a few screws and is most definitely not soldered on if anyone is concerned.

      Can 2nd this.
      Got this model from msy for $119 and opened it up and put it in my computer.
      Doesn't have the speed of a WD black but it does pick up a lot more speed when using a SATA cable for the transfer.
      Very easy to undo and there are plenty of disassembly videos on YouTube.
      You could also buy a new enclosure for the hard drive from msy with USB 3.0 but I haven't done that so can't really recommend it.

  Who would want to fill 3 tb at usb2 speeds? Take a couple days. Why wouldn't they make all hdd over 2tb to be usb3?

    Guessing these were mass produced and are just slowly being seeped out.
    You could disassemble it and put it in another enclosure with USB 3.0.
