"We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our website" :(

  • Lol… will it ever resume? They've been down for the whole sale period. They should just use a decent hosting company like Crucial paradigm, bulletproof or amazon aws. Surely they can afford it especially if their website isn't down and they make extra sales.

    • +3

As other people have said (and even Myer themselves) it doesn't seem to be an issue with load, more an issue with backend systems and proper integration. Although I agree; it's been few days and they should have their act together by now.

      • -2

Even with backend issues they could create a new ecommerce system with proper SQL databases in that time and import their products via XML. It's not like they don't have $1 million to splash.

Nine women can't give birth in 1 month.

        • -2

maybe if they had a good project manager they could …

        • Sure they can, just ask any project manager ;)

    • +2

looks like they've been paying too much for IBM for nothing, money comes and goes.

      • +6

That's what happens when you hire IBM…

    • +3

They are using WMC & IBM WebSphere Portal, i.e. Java, with IIS 7 serving the front end, and what else the consultants convinced them to deploy as part of the whole ERP solution. I don't think it's as trivial as "moving to AWS".

  • +5

And all of their prices will go up +$10 to cover their delivery losses haha.

    • +5

+$5 website tax for shopping online.

  • +3

Advertising a deal for an online shop which isn't even running and no body here knows when it will even be running again. Maybe Myer will be having two different online boxing day sales in 2014.

  • +18

My gosh, and they wonder why people flock to overseas sites.

    • +1

      hear, hear.

  • +1

This is just news item and not a bargain. Really, whether Myer gives me free shipping or not - it does not matter to me, I am keen to find what items might be on sale.

  • +1

no more $ to spend for myer

  • +1

I'm thinking data loss… Where was that backup??

    • I think their internal systems are working, my order that made on the web on 25th was there where I called. One Issue I always had with Myer website is when you type 1 char in the search window, it goes frantically to the back-end and tries to get you a list of items. This take about 5 sec and continues for every char you try to type in the search window. I think with so many people trying to search on boxing day, it might have killed the back-end servers! (All my guess and I have no connection to Myer)

      • +2

I have no connection to Myer

        None of us do!

  • +9

site is down because no real bargains exist

    • You could infer from the last four paragraphs of the article that there aren't any good bargains on their site anyway.

"Less than 1 per cent of Myer’s annual $2.8 billion in sales comes from its website."

      • +2

        A self fulfilling prophecy.

      • +1

Personally I don't mind their prices on some items at times. Their website on the other hand has been god awful at the best of times and outright not available at others. I'm not surprised they hardly generate sales from it. Even when it works, finding anything on it is a pain.

I imagine they'll be doing a big overhaul of it this year following what surely must be seen as a huge fiasco with it going down for their primary sales period. It's kind of like certain cities issues with public transport where really the service needs to be of a good enough quality before people will begin to use it. If you use low usage percentages as an excuse not to improve the service, then the numbers will never go up.

  • What nobody mentions is that they might have some kickass specials once back online to get out of the bad news.

    • +3

What, like 'up to' 50% off their already 300% higher prices to get the suckers in? And it'll be 50% off a cup or something and the rest are only 1-5% off..

    • +1

You will never get Myer cheaper than anywhere else, at best the same price..(in my experience)

      • The only time is when they have items on clearance.

    • lol beware low-flying pigs

they won't get another dollar out of me ever, website running or not.

  • +4

i reckon they've done everything they can to fix the server EXCEPT turn the power off and back on again :P

    • +3

I reckon they've been on hold to the IT support call centre in India for all this time, listening to the recorded message…
Or they've been answered and are working with the first level support guru who keeps saying things like "now, I want you to go to the start menu - it's on the bottom left hand of the screen. Click on that and type in 'Microsoft FrontPage' and start that program'.

  • +2

I feel like all B&Ms are ignoring the internet in the hopes it will go away. Unfortunately for them shopping express is not going away anytime soon. :P

  • I wonder who'll lose their job over this one… HUGE mistake.

    • +1

I am sure there will some $$$ clause with IBM. But IBM will sure have some kind of "did you read this find print…"

  • Wonder how many $millions mysr lost not being on line.
Serves em rite for the ceos disabled jibe last year.
See,s rhe whole company is handicapped.
    Very amateur.

  • +2

Everyone is assuming Myer want their website working….

It is obvious Myer and their CEO do not care about their online presence and simply want the internet to go away….they will surely die a long slow death if they continue along this path.

    • +3

or maybe the internet will die and Myer will rise like a phoenix!!!

    • If I look at, I would rather get their customer into their stores.. not sure if that happened!

  • +2

Should be free shipping permanently like other big sites do.

  • +1

I reckon lookout for any pricing errors that make items dirt cheap!

  • +1

CEO Brookes said last week it was going to take 2 hours to fix the site. Still not up and I'm thinking it won't be tomorrow either.

    • Did he say when the 2 hours would start?

      • +1

One hour in the beginning, one at the end and about a week in between.

  • What if website goes back online.
    all prices $0.00
    :D :D :D

  • +1

Not a good way to start the new year, it's still down!

    What happened to Tuesday?

    Hopeless.

  • +1

Just went through the whole Mens section and nothing worth it really.

  • I'm confused. About 2 hours ago I wanted to buy 3x one product (skincare) but was told they had insufficient stock so gave me 2. Then the item appeared as 'sold out' in the search function.
I went back now and I ordered 3x again and it worked. i.e. I have now ordered 5x the same product.
I hope my order is not cancelled. Are the items reserved in your basket? How long for?
    Confusing.

  • +1

Took a risk and got some food items on clearance, no best before dates stated though…

Free shipping makes it worthwhile, so thanks OP.

  • The item I ordered yesterday will be delivered today! Free next day delivery. Great!
