Good evening fellow Ozbargainers.

If you have been pondering the recent JB Hifi HTP-072 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128072) or the Yamaha YHT299 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128576) and was looking for another product from Pioneer which has an active subwoofer (the HTP-072 has a passive subwoofer), why not take a look at the following deal from Videopro:

Pioneer HTP323 5.1 Channel 3D Home Theatre System for $342.10 with free delivery.

It seems like a good price for an entry level home theater system and a more 'apples for apples' comparison to the Yamaha YHT299 pack in the link above.

  • Hifi HTP-072 I got it for $199 with $30 credit voucher, is the above model 100% superior over Hifi HTP-072 in comparison to price?

    • Only if you believe that being able to use an active subwoofer is worth the price difference. As far as I can see, that is the biggest difference.

Some additional checks on the products provides the following:

      1) Amplifier for the HTP072 misses out on having a subwoffer pre-out and only has spring-clip speaker connections
      (http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/62/100/42/HTP-072/page.ht…)

      2) Amplifier for HTP323 (the VSX 323) has a sub-pre-out and different connectors for the front speakers.

Also the difference pointed out by bargain4sujit regarding the Total harmonic distortion (THD) rating for the VSX323 at 0.7% vs the HTP071's rating at 10%.

    • +1

sound quality? the comparison is you get what you pay for.

    • lol wonder how to calculate percentage of superiority in relation to the variance in price

  • +1

This one has 0.7% THD whereas jb HiFi Pioneer has 10% THD. technically this one is supposed to produce 15 times better sound when played at high volume.

In reality how they perform can be told by listeners or reviewers…

  • how does this compared with the yamaha yht 299 bundle?

    • +4

I can't comment on actual sound quality. If your own research finds anything then please post it up. Meahwhile, I can tell you that the Yamaha provides more connectivity options over the Pioneer (i.e. more legacy connections in addition to the 4 HDMI connections) while the Yamaha has a slightly higher THD rating of 0.9%.
The amp from the Yamaha package is the HTR-3066. You can find the specs here: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-amp…
