iPad Mini with Retina Display 32GB vs 64GB vs 128GB?

Hi all,

Continuing from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128845

Just curious why most of the people is getting 32GB or 64GB iPad Mini?

Been reading whirlpool and notice that not a lot of people mentioned they bought 128GB. In Fact, a lot of people getting 32GB and some places ran out of stock.

I am thinking to get 128GB this weekend.

My questions are
1) What stops people from buying 128GB iPad mini with Retina Display?
2) Where is the best price? so far I have found this from whirlpool

Any advise?

Thanks.

I bought a 32Gb and i've almost filled it up already with work related data and really wished i had bought a 128Gb.
reason i bought the 32 was that I was going to use cloud storage but i found it a bit slow as most of the stuff i need are large files and, i pretty much needed straight away. - or maybe im using cloud storage wrong but yeah.
Saved some $ by buying wifi only as i could tether it with my phone.

Def by the high capacity ipad if u can afford to. Apps and pretty much everything are getting bigger n bigger.

i have an old ipad 1 16gb. Few apps and movies for my son n its maxed out.

    • I was thinking to get 128GB but hardly hear anyone mentioning it. Not at ozbargin or whirlpool. That kinda freak me out —> because ozbargainers will definitely recommend 128GB if it's good. :)

But after reading what you had experience, I think 128GB is a pretty good choice.

      Thanks for sharing your story.

I wonder if $928 @ BigW is the cheapest? :/

      • because ozbargainers will definitely recommend 128GB if it's good. :)

It's exactly the same as the 16GB model, but you're able to put more apps, videos, music on it.

Of course, but for many people they won't use or need the extra storage. It all depends how you use your tablet and if you want to put all your media on it.

      • Yeap… I agree that it depends on personal preference…

Let's say if you have the $1k to spend on iPad, which one would you choose?

  • I was thinking to get 64 gb, however most places are sold out except apple store that charge full price.

Most people get 32 or 64 because that is all they need! Not everyone walks around with their entire music and movie collection on their iPad. It is all down to individual usage. If you can use cloud storage and don't need to have all your games and other media on the device at once, then go for a smaller capacity. If money is no object then go for the big one. 16gb works perfectly for me, as any other media can be put on my Galaxy S3 phone, and that also comes in handy for tethering so you don't need to buy the cellular model iPad.

  • It's not even the cost so much, it's that Apple (and others too) charge a rip-off amount for what is $10 or whatever of NAND.

  • Just in case you don't know - if you need more space you can remove apps and reinstall them later without paying again - for example you can delete all your travel related apps and just reinstall them when you need them. That said buy the most memory you can afford/justify :)

  • Thanks all for the comments and advise. I may take up 128GB.

So far the best price for 128GB is $928 @ BigW. I have a friend who is interested to get 1 too.

I will try to squeeze it down to $900 at JB HiFi since I am getting 2 at the same time. :)

I bought the 16gb iPad mini, it depends on how you use it. I always buy the highest capacity iPhone because that's where all my content goes ,

I rarely use the space on my iPad . Also you can get a 1tb wifi drive for about $150 which if you are happy to keep around is much better than paying for a larger capacity
