Circulon 30cm Fry Pan $49.97 (Was $199.95) + Free Shipping @ Myer Online

660

Similar to the Quilt Covers these have been reduced significantly, more so than the regular sale items.

There are two options, the "Style" Frypan

http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/circulon-style-open-fren…

And the Hard Anodised Commercial French Skillet

http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/cookware-186553--1/hard-…

There are a few sizes for each that all come in at the $49.97 price, But the real bargain is the 30cm frypans.

Anyway I thought it was pretty good and purchased one myself, so thought I had better share.

"Each pan is hard-anodised throughout, which is twice as hard as stainless steel."

Is this true? The coating won't strip off?

  • +8

I'm not a fan of Circulon, had same experience as these reviews http://www.productreview.com.au/p/circulon.html

    • +1

I had a Circulon II a while back and it was the best frypan I've owned.

Not sure if there is a quality difference between Circulon and Circulon II

    • +4

any particular model/range to look out for? The complaints didn't seem very specific and tried to paint their entire catalogue with a wide brush.

While I won't claim that every circulon product is the 'beez kneez', these two products are hard anodized non-stick (or at least claim to be), which is basically a plated non-stick coating. Unless you're cooking something that's highly acidic/basic you shouldn't be able to scratch it off.

I have an Anolon hard anodized frying pan which I have not treated with the respect one gives a teflon/ptfe coated frying pan and it's non-stickiness has held up for 4 odd years of use/abuse.

The complaints didn't seem very specific

There are quite a few complaints about surfaces falling off and peeking off. One person(at least) mentioned the entire collection having a problem.
I have one circulon pan (10 yrs old+) and it's still in good condition, but it doesn't get used much - mainly because of health concerns about chemicals released from Teflon during heating.
        lmgtfy.com/?q=teflon+toxicity

I bought an arcosteel pan (non-stick) a few years ago and the surface has peeled away where the handle joins the fry pan (on the inside of the pan). Maybe that's a common flaw in these surfaces?

        • +2

Did you read my post correctly? I was referring to the model of cookware, not the type of defect. Those who claim that every circulon product is probably a little bit biased and almost certainly speaking without experience. Why would you buy another one, and then another one, and then a product from every single line if they all keep failing? Sounds like hyperbole or stupidity.

Anyway these frying pans are hard anodized, not PTFE, so there's no worry from the 'teflon toxicity' point of view. If your Arcosteel is peeling then it sounds like it too is a PTFE or similarly coated surface. When hard anodized surfaces fail they tend to come off like bits of sand, but I haven't seen it happen yet on my frying pans. Could be a matter of time though.

        • In fact you'll probably find that the hard anodising is impregnated with PTFE particles. This is what gives it the non-stick properties, whereas the hard anodising is to give it non-scratch qualities. I used to work in this type of anodising so have some clue what I'm talking about.

  • We have used Circulon Steel Elite now for a couple of years and couldn't be happier. We wash it in the dishwasher using Finish Quantum Tablets. These can wear off the designs on your cups etc and have not had a problem. We do use induction cooking so I don't know if that makes a difference. Also, even though it says you can, we don't use metal utensils on them.

    • +2

The instructions that came with my Circulon Infinite set stated metal utensils were never to be used. Using any metal utensils on any Teflon coated product is generally a quick way to ruin them.

  • +3

You've got to be very careful with the coatings they use. Never, ever use spray oils when cooking with it.

  • Are these pans induction compatible?

    • The hard anodised French skillet one says it's not.
Edit: Although I can't find where I read that now!

  • +3

sigh great deal, but Myer's site is still profanity… spent 10m trying to checkout and it sold out in the meantime. This is why I don't bother with Myer =/

Edit: 30cm hard anodised frypan is the one that's sold out

    • They were in store at these prices too a few days ago

  • +1

Wow, great timing then! I was going to leave it till the morning, but I thought I'll grab one anyway coz we're kinda needing one. But if the Mrs said no then I'd just return it!
Also, it's supposed to be free shipping for over $100, but this came up as free too!

  • +2

Just grabbed the 30cm hard anodised one. Last one I think. It came up as Out of Stock then came back into stock.

Free shipping for me as well. <$100.

  • It can be because of myself.
I added two (by mistake) and then removed one from my cart.

    • Thanks :)

This seems to be the link you want for the red "style" one as the one you have is for Circulon in general.

Hard to say from that link though as one person loves it whether as the other one hates it… and both seem to be for the skillet pan! Wish there was more reviews online as I'm considering it… hmmm

    • Sorry, but I don't think it's a reason to neg. The deal itself is still quite good!
Edit: Also, as stated above, these reviews are not relating to any specific product. They are just generalizing on the brand!

  • I was somehow able to get the red 30cm one. It kept switching between out of stock and low stock. I'll see how it goes when it arrives. My current frying pans are old and crappy so I'm guessing it'll be a step up even if it's just slightly.

    • Basically same reason I got it, my current ones are so bad that it would impossible for this not to be a step up

  • +5

I bought a set of Circulon pots and pans from Amazon UK a couple of years ago. Apparently featuring the toughest DuPont Teflon coating available. Apart from on sharp edges the coating has held up well to dishwasher use.

I must say that the whole set (3 pots, 2 frying pans) was around $250 delivered by air mail. $200 for one frying pan? No Myer, this is the reason why people point and laugh at staid old bricks and mortar shops. That frying pan was never, ever worth $200 regardless of what you claim.

  • I got the Contempo set from Macy's in November(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/123598#comment-1700321)and would certainly recommend them. Given that I think mine are the range below these one's, they're still great quality and very hard wearing (especially given I am not the most careful of cooks).

  • +1

    30cm sold out.

    • Yeah not sure why deal isn't marked as expired as the 30cm was the real bargain

  • Just curious, wasn't there fairly big news about Du Pont's non-stick materials being cancer causing one or two years back? Why is it that no one seems to care about this anymore? Have they invented something new, forced factories to buy it and apply to all pots and pans for all brands and claimed that it is safer now?
    http://www.abc.net.au/health/thepulse/stories/2006/02/23/157…
If there is something new please share! I have been busy replacing all my household cookwares with stainless steel for the past couple of years and it is costing a fortune!

    • The article you point to is from 2006. Can't recall the last time I fried anything at such high temperatures, let alone in something Teflon coated.

      http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancercauses/othercarcinogens/a…
      http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/nervous-about-non…

With regards to the carcinogenic compound (PFOA -driven out of finished product during the process) used in the manufacture of Teflon:

      http://www2.dupont.com/Teflon/en_US/products/safety/key_ques…
Does DuPont use PFOA to make non-stick coatings for cookware?

No. As of January 1, 2012, DuPont no longer uses PFOA to manufacture non-stick coatings for cookware and consumer bake ware.

As long as you're smart about what you use your Teflon item for (cook steak, anything that requires high temp. in stainless steel pan), then it should be safe.

      • Thanks xuqi for your post. Much appreciated. Still, if the fume can cause problem, I am not sure I want to associate any food that I eat and digest with something that can cause something as serious as cancer. As newer illnesses find their way to be on our alarm list, I can't help but think that many of these problems are caused by products that we use every single day. Why should I be smart about using my pot? Maybe as soon as I put down the food into the pot, I change my mind about how I want to cook it? Besides, I got most of my pots and pans in stainless steel already! Anyway, appreciate your post.

    Hi Guys,

Was able to get the Hard Anodised Commercial French Skillet 30cm in store!

At Myer Indooroopilly store ! It was hard to get as the lady kept telling me it was only 50% so a total sale price of $99.95

I told her about the online store and I showed her the prices of all pans reduced to $49.95, she was shocked, but allowed me to buy it at that price :)

Can post receipt on request if needed!

  • On the phone with Myer now, trying to honour the online price for the 30cm. I WANT ONE!!!!!!

  • Yes can you post the receipt up GOMO many thanks !

  • +1

Got Myer to price-match in store: 30cm $49.95…..thank you very very very very much Ozbargain

    • +1

Wish I knew how. Myer Ryde refused and rang the manager only to say the best they can do is $80, it scanned at $99.

  • +1

Got the last 30cm one from Myer Launceston, had to jump through a few hoops as it was scanning at $100.

  • +1

Forget this poncy sh1t, buy a cast iron skillet and cook like the professionals do. Doubt what I say? Go and look in any commercial kitchen and see what chefs and cooks use. You won't find any teflon sh1t there!

  • Shhhhhhhhh

  • +1

Much better to buy a cast iron skillet. It will last longer, taste better, and you can put it in the oven. They also have the health benefits of no teflon flakes, gasses or residues in your meals.

They are to be had for around $60 for a 30cm one. https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/lodge-logic-skillet-30cm…

There is a reason that commercial kitchens don't use non stick cookware - so why use it when the professionals don't!

    • Most commercial kitchens I see use alloy pans. Only real exception is chinese and grills or when they are using pots.

I assumed it was because it heats up quicker. Maybe a chef can confirm/deny.

      • +1

It depends what you're cooking. Food has a tendency to stick to stainless steel unless it is rather hot and lightly oiled. It's brilliant for deglazing when making sauces, however.

The thickness of the base as well as the lining material is important too, the thicker it is (some alloy pans are copper or aluminium encapsulated) gives them a higher heat capacity, meaning they stay hotter for longer - useful when browning foods with high water content, such as prawns.

Cast iron is great for browning meat but harder to deglaze because of the rougher surface.

It all depends what you're cooking, but if I were to pick one saucepan to keep in my kitchen it would be a 30cm cast iron skillet. Heavy, but damn indestructible.

I'm not a chef, I just cook a lot at home.

  • I was coming back to edit my post but I may as well reply, you are indeed correct and as you have further explained better in your later posts I apologise calling you a troll.

  • Which one is better quality? the "Style" Frypan or the Commercial French Skillet? Thanks.

    • If you had to have a guess, which one would you choose?

      • They both seem have the same description (hard anodised, etc) and RRP, so is it just the style? Additionally I can't find the Commercial French Skillet on circulon.com.au or circulon.com

This one looks similar, tho mine has a small metal handle on the other side as well :)

    • That one is steel and can be used for induction, the myer's one seems to be aluminium (hard anodised).

  • +1

I just got a refund from Myer. Hmm… Maybe they don't have enough stock to go around.

    • how did you find out..? somehow saw this coming.. wished i went to shop to get one now..

      • 4 items were backordered on the weekend …. Tonight 3 of those 4 (i.e. 75%) have been cancelled allegedly due to "insufficient stock". Hopefully everyone else has better luck!

      • wow.. glad I walked in! :)

      • +1

Got an email saying I'll be getting a refund and got another email saying my order has been cancelled. No reason given. I emailed them back to ask what the reason was but no reply yet.

        This is for the 30cm.

    • Mine arrived this morning.

  • Sorry Myer, but you can kiss my ass goodbye! Got an email a few days ago saying that they're was a delay in shipping. Just got a phone call then telling me that they've looked in every store and cannot locate one. Less than impressed!!!
Ps. My order was placed about 10 minutes after this went live on OzBargain!

  • First got an email to say there was a delay, then a phone call today to say they were refunding the money as out of stock…

  • well to contradict the many others, I guess I was one of the luck ones who was shipped the Red 30cm pan without any issues.for peoples information, it was delivered 10th January to brisbane metro (4005).
As far as the product goes, I which i measured my stove top because getting the 30cm pan.. seems like my largest stove top is around 20cm so even heat transfer has been difficult. the not stick is ok, not like teflon like I'm use to but i how it will last alot longer than my previous teflon coated pans. It is a pain that the inside face of the pan is made of the same material where it is only non stick when heated so because there can't be heat on the sides food is getting stuck on the side all the time..

I hope other people will get their product.
