Timely Alarm Clock by Bitspin (Android) FREE

2200

Google recently acquired Bitspin and has now made the Android alarm app free to celebrate!

Seems like it was $0.99 recently.

"We're thrilled to announce that Bitspin is joining Google, where we'll continue to do what we love: building great products that are delightful to use.

For new and existing users, Timely will continue to work as it always has. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded our app and provided feedback along the way; we truly appreciate all your support." - The Bitspin Team

    damn I bought this a week ago….

    • Same. Bought it in the 27/12. But alas, it's not really money out of my pocket.

    • Yep, bought this on Wednesday. Oh well.

  • Wait, it always have been free to install. Then a 99cents to remove ads and unlock features. Are they making the unlock free?

    • +3

Yes. As the post describes Google acquired Bitspin, the company behind Timely, and the additional features, that were previously available through an in-app purchase, are now completely free.

  • This app is incompatible with your device.
Goddamit! Samsung Galaxy SII un-rooted here

Wish I could save it for a future install when I have a new phone/tablet.

    • +2

I think it's permanently free, so no rush

    • "This app is compatible with your device." I have a SG2

      • -3

Ive got SG4 and it works perfectly

    • I have a galaxy s2 as well and it works flawlessly although I am running Kit Kat rom, not that it should matter.

  • This is cool news. They are very talented developers.

  • +1

Now if google would buy out Meatspan I could die happy.

    • If you were dead there'd be no benefit for you?

  • nice, now we can set sync all our devices to alarm at the same time :P

  • Saw this sale on Appsale this morning, but wondering what I can use this app for as my Galaxy S3 already had clock and alarm app included?

    • +2

You should be able to use this app as a substitute for the original basic clock, with android phones you can often download many clock apps and choose the one you best like then apply that one. :)

    • +1

Debatable, in the end it mainly comes down to preference.

    • I keep going back to Xtreme after I try any others. Don't know why, it's not overly pretty and doesn't have any amazing additional features; but there's obviously something I like better about it.

  • Bitdefender says it is a moderate privacy risk as it can leak my unique device ID…

    • +2

It syncs your alarms between different devices and need to id them.

  • does this let you use your own mp3s?
or are you stuck with theirs?

    • +1

A review on google store says you are stuck with their crap.

    • +1

You can put your.mp3 files in the alarms folder and use them as alarms though you can't pick them directly from the app.

  • +3

Way too many App permissions to grant just for an alarm clock. Looks like someone is spying on your every move.

    • +3

but its owned by google now, so….

      • +8

        so…. more spying?

        • +2

well i would guess any permissions this app spies with, have already been used by the google android OS to spy already. so any info this app gets, has been obtained by google long ago.

        • +3

You have nothing can be spied twice by a same company.

        • +1

The fact that you own a Google phone means you are already under the watchful eye of Google. Can't escape that.

  • +2

I already had the free version with ads installed. Uninstalled, redownload it and now it's ad free. Thanks OP

    • This is weird. I already had the free version with ads, but I just checked now and the ads are gone. I didn't do anything?

Maybe it was an update they pushed out over the last few days that made it become the pro version?
It doesn't say anywhere if it's free or pro, but the ads are now gone.

Now, if only it would allow me to set a timer for longer than 1 hour. Seems it can only go to 59 minutes and then it resets back to 0.

      • +1

Spin past 1 hr and it has a little "1hr" above and to the left of the big minutes number in the middle. Keep spinning and it goes to 2, 3 etc.

        • Awesome, thanks mate. I think I was drunk the very first time I tried to use it and didn't notice the little 1h on the left and assumed that once it went past 59 minutes it just started going 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours etc. But it is indeed just minutes past the first hour. hehe.

  • Wow..almost bought the paid version when was on sale..

  • I had the free version before google bought them. the nag screens were annoying, but the app was very pretty. but 'pretty' isn't enough reason to buy the app over the built-in one in android, so I uninstalled. But now that it's all free, no reason not to switch back to the pretty one. :)

  • I have been trying out different apps that will allow my phone to work as a clock radio substitute while I put it in a stand and charge at night. I have to say most really sucks, they have a heap of crap features, don't integrate well, change brightness setting of my phone higher rather than lower, and generally don't offer anything except a clock face. Is this any different?

    • +6

well, I watched the video on the play store after seeing the phenomenal number of votes this deal has received.

According to the video… it's not just a clock. It's.. a beautiful clock.

I'm struggling to understand the popularity of this deal!!?

      • +8

People like pretty things I guess, haha. I gave it 1 minutes use and deleted it, stock alarm is good enough, couldn't find any features of this that were actually useful to me.

      • it also syncs alarms across multiple devices, if that's useful to you.

        • +2

Perfect! I can place my phone next to the bed, and a tablet across the room. When they both go off early in the AM I can throw the phone at the tablet.

    • +2

yes it has a night mode which makes the screen pretty dark.

      • worth staying up late in bed just to watch the pretty dark screen I guess….

        • +2

Good if you're on molly or acid.

      • I can say having used it for 5 minutes that this is easily better than all 5 other apps I installed, mainly it's nice, it works and the features included are good eg.

        Shrinking snooze interval
        Night mode which dims screen
Fade in alarm for waking up without a shock

A smart move by google to obtain this, it's an app that looks like it belongs on iOS, works and beautiful. The end of all other alarm clock apps.

  • +1

    Thank you OP.

  • +1

    Brilliant. Love it.

    Thanks OP.

  • Yeah bought this last deal. Pretty disappointing app, doesn't really do anything. I at least expected it to come with a functional widget like the bundled clock. The timely widget just shows the time, can't even turn on or off the alarm.

  • +2

I love Alarm Clock Plus (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vp.alarmCl…)
it has the NAP option that helps me a lot when I go for my short breaks at work.
Not sure yet if Timely Alarm Clock has this feature. But the interface looks pretty nice.

  • This looks like an Apple app.

Does that explain the crazy number of votes? Lol…..I think it does.

  • +2

Thank you. I really like this app, and i especially like the fade in alarm. Seems pretty simple but does the job really well

  • +1

I bought it one day before the google buyout.. damn~!

However it was on sale for a buck so not the end of the world.

Its the best alarm clock I have ever used. The interface is amazing and there is a nice choice of alarms.

  • Nice app. Love it.

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

Jelly Bean comes with a very capable Clock app. Not that I need yet another app but this one looks pretty slick and is free.
