Sonos Play: 1, Play: 3, Play: 5 with Bonus Bridge (Normally $75) @ Videopro

20

"Purchase this Sonos PLAY:1 before January 31st 2014 to receive a Bonus BRIDGE valued at $75. "

I ordered the Play:1 yesterday from Videopro for $289 which includes the bridge. Offer also applies to the Play:3 and Play:5 (black and white).

Price also included standard shipping to me in NSW (I assume from QLD).

Only annoying thing is you need to ring them on 1300 843 367 to order. They won't take online orders for Sonos products.

  • $267 for black Play:1 instore at Harvey Norman

    • Does that come with Wifi Bridge though? I though that deal from Sonos was ending on 31 December?

    • I tried to buy one at the Richmond store in Victoria, as it showed as in stock on the web site. but was told they only had the white one at $288 when I got there!

  • Also, something to keep in mind for people considering getting a Play:5… for around the same money you can buy a SONOS 'Connect' so if you already have an Amp & Speakers and don't really need the semi-portability of these smaller SONOS all-in-one units then the 'Connect' would be a better way to go as it already has a Bridge built-in.

In other words (& only if it suits your needs) start with a 'Connect' and grow your SONOS system from there without the need for a Bridge at all.

    • someone explain to me why i need a sonos system or even sonos connect when my amp is already connect to the network and dlna compatible

        SONOS = true Multizoning

        • i'm actually interested but i have a hard time justifying bulking on more gadgets. my amp has 2.5 zones, i dont know what the .5 is. but will the sonos some how give me more magic and how?

Well, here's some real-life experiences from the SONOS system I've been building up since 2006:

I have a dozen SONOS 'Connect' & 'Play' devices around the house. I can be listening to whatever I want either from my NAS or streamed off the internet or from a local input (ie. Turntable or TV) or even from my phone in my Workshop or Study area at whatever volume I want while my wife is listening to whatever she wants wherever she is at whatever volume she wants. If whatever we're doing starts creeping into other areas of the house then we simply add that zone to the group and bingo you're listening to the same thing in the new area as well as or instead of the original zone. If you then start doing something else somewhere else then you just add the zones you need and drop off the ones you dont. Can get interesting when you start having your own sound offs via the SONOS when you're doing things near to each other :P

It really comes into its own when the house starts filling up with people doing different things in different areas ie. at a recent Christmas gathering. I was playing LPs through the vintage Hifi system in the Lounge Room but also feeding it back through the SONOS 'Connect' unit in there to a SONOS 'Amp' in the Kitchen and also to a Play:3 out on the Deck where most people were. Each Zone was playing the same audio from the Turntable but at different volumes. The nieces were watching a DVD in the Living Room but also playing in a nearby Bedroom so I linked those zones together and pulled the volume down (friggin' Peppa Pig!) but I also had some nice soft Classical music playing in a Bedroom far away from the chaos where the Grandparents were chilling out to escape the heat.

We've also had parties where all the guests have already been connected to our Wifi and had the SONOS app installed on their phones so everyone just added their favourite tracks to the queue without a problem running through several different zones in the house all at different volume levels. Just pure awesomeness really… until someone drinks too much and starts skipping tracks and cranking up their own choices :P I've suggested to SONOS via the forum many years ago that they need to give people the option to have an 'Admin' interface and a 'Guest' interface for scenarios like this but they haven't yet done that. They did mysteriously release the SONOS 'Sub' about 12 months after I suggested it tho… coincidence? Yeah, probably :P

        • oh, i might consider it then when i get a 5 bedroom house with a library, living room, sitting room, family room, decking and green house :)

          Ha, absolutely.

SONOS is very good even with a single device but it really shines when it's built up into a complex multizone system as per the examples above. Nothing else comes close! If you dont need that now or never think you'll need it in the future then I'm sure there are many other products that will do what you need for far less cashish… BUT if you get into SONOS now, even in a small way, it's just so stupidly easy to grow the system if/when required. Adding a new SONOS component to the network is literally a 10 second job (once it boots of course) then naming the new device/zone takes another few seconds so you can be listening to music in a new zone in well under a minute.

  • Did anyone else misread it as bonus fridge?

  • Just a FYI I reckon JB would match VPs price on the Play 3 with Bridge. I got it for $400 just before christmas and I think perhaps they would've gone a little further had I tried harder, considering the bridge retails at $75 I don't think they'd be too much trouble getting both from JB for the same VP price of $435

  • I would like to see a decent sonos sale for existing sonos customers. .. ie for people who don't need a bridge…
Cmon video pro.. show us what you can do!

    • Hey Doc… just buy your SONOS gear from the US via eBay. Ignore the propaganda from the Australian Distributors about the US devices not working here, 75% of my system is from the US and works perfectly.

      • I think we have discussed this one before… I still would like to see local sellers making some effort..

But yes I hear you loud and clear. .. my next sonos purchase will be from the states (hopefully before the aussie dollar dies)

  • All Telstra stores sell the P3 for $399 with a free Bridge

    • Do they sell the 1 or the 5??

      • I got my P5 from Telstra with a free bridge

        • Was is $580?

  • Hi all.

For those that know little about Sonos or the Play:1, I did a bit of a review on my personal blog (http://www.reasons3.com/product/sonos-play1/).

Even though it sounds pricey, it really is a fantastic product. I have a Connect on my stereo, a Play:5 in my bedroom and Play:1 in my bathroom.
