Herman Miller - Sayl office chair *** 12 year warranty *** (Black)

On sale now until January 31st – normally $645 now $490. Standard height adjustable / Adjustable tilt limiter, seat angle & depth / Height adjustable arms with black arm pads / Black base & frame / 64mm hard black castors / Black suspension back & onyx upholstered seat.

I was going to buy the Aeron but borrowed a friends Aeron for a few days and the more I sat in it the less I liked it. I however was impressed that his Aeron was 15 years old and still looked new. So did some further research and discovered the Sayl chair also by Herman Miller. I bought one a few days ago at Living Edge $490. I spend upwards of 10 hours a day in my chair and personally have found it the most comfortable chair to date that I have tried and I have tried many.

  • Is your chair as adjustable to the extent of the one in this video?

No Lumber support as shown in the video and the arm rest adjusts up and down only not sideways, I think everything else is as the Living Edge SAYL deal. I have not missed the lumber support as the back contours to the shape of your back and is surprisingly comfortable.

      • Thanks for confirming!

  • Holy smokes…..almost every chair in my office is one of these.

I had no idea they were Hermans….hopefully they are fakes.

    • Does that mean you are dissatisfied with the chair?

        No the chairs are great.

I'm worried about my pay rise.

        • Hahahaha… these are the poor mans Herman's, you should still get your pay rise:)

Does this man the chair will last forever?

  • I've had one of these for a little over a year now, bought it instead of the Aeron and I'm very happy with it. I think $645 is very reasonable for the comfort, quality, and local 12 year warranty, and $490 is a real bargain!

Is it worth getting the Aeron over this model?

    • Yes if YOU can justify the cost

  • Some reviews on Amazon refer to a design flaw that causes a screw to make a squeaking noise. Anyone with this chair experience this?

    • I have used this chair in my office (see above).

In the 5 months so far I have not experienced any squeaking in mine / my colleagues or any other chair I have sat on in the office.

    • I have only had the Sayl chair a few days but so far also no squeaks. A very comfortable chair, I preferred the upholstered seat base to sit on with the Sayl as opposed to the mesh base on the Aeron. However I think the mesh is great as you can just wipe it clean on the Aeron. The Aeron is a heavier solid chair and will probably outlast the Sayl but they both have a 12 year warranty.

    • It may not be the screw. You may need to check your mouse.

Finally bought one of these instead of choosing from so many others mentioned in OzBargain and a Whirlpool forum.

I like it, and $490 is easier to justify than anything more than double, or less than half. Will see how this fares.

The back of the SAYL flares/curves out a bit and looks a little ungainly. For me.

The sample at living Edge was also squeaky, although it's "not normal" and I would assume that's covered under warranty.
