Metabo 18v Drill/Driver Kit $299

80

From the tool a day site tomorrow. A Metabo 18 volt Li-Ion cordless drill and driver with 2 x 2.6Ah batteries and charger.

Metabo have a reputation (and usually price to match) of being excellent quality. Not sure about shipping cost. Supposedly half RRP, but I've found it on 2 other sites for $319, so not that big a deal.

  • First time I have ever heard of METABO. LOL

Probably because they usually price themselves out of the reach of any but the dedicated trades person. I wonder if they've changed the quality with these. Or maybe manufacture in China.

    • ROFL!

    • Metabo is short for "Metallbohrdreher", meaning in German "Metal Drill".

Bloody good kit, as other have said, their equipment is pricey, but you get what you pay for.
Whether its made in Germany, made in China is irrelevant. Heh, the iron in the drill chuck may have come from Aus.

Their tools are brilliant, will last close to a lifetime.

If you dont want to live a lifetime, get something else.

  • have a metabo (corded) hammer drill. indestructible power machine tears through walls :D

i have a german made corded metabo hammer drill that I inherited from my dad. still going strong after 20 years or so.

  • Yeah, I know the oldskool German Metabo gear is killer. I had a Rotary Hammer Drill that ripped through anything & everything… until it got stolen :( I now only have a super small, low speed yet extreme high torque Metabo screwdriver (which has been excellent mind you) but I'm not sure how much better this new stuff would be compared to all other similar decent quality gear also now made in China. Much of a muchness I'd say.

  • Hi all. Just here to advocate for the corded variety as I have had mine for over 30 years and it has done unimaginable work without failing. Every single thing on the drill still works as if it was brand new - and that is even after the kids left it out in the rain a few times (grrrrrrr). My Dad has the cordless variety and, although he has not used it as much over the 15 years, it is still brilliant. We use both when we are doing large jobs. Simple rule - buy right, buy once.

  • I have the corded one and it is great. I purchased a similar set of cordless ones recently and so far I have not regretted it at all. Metabo is a bit boring compared to the fancy looking Hitachi and Makita drills, but they are great quality. Even if all are made in China, there is a difference in design and specifications. Also, there are a variety of factories in China, good and bad.

    Metabo - Arbeit nicht spiel!

Looks different to the ones sold on Amazon.de.
Maybe they are experimenting in the Australian market with cheaper DIY models? Same spec's though.

These tools work best if you play Rammstein at high volume.

  • Metabo are excellent, although bunnings have a 299 package for AEG impact + hammer + radio + 2 x 2 Ah batteries… can't fault them and got a flogging this summer. Hammer by itself is 269 on the shelf.

  • Seems they might be made in China now. If you have a look at their Australian site they say 'engineered in Germany' and that the gears are made in Germany. Being made in China isn't nessecarily a bad thing - if the quality levels and control are high. I can vouch for the AEG stuff. Used to be German/Swedish, now Chinese, but still fine.

    • Why do you say swedish.
As far as I know they are a german brand.
Also, if you a referring to AEG,also German.

Totally off topic, but Australia should be making/designing stuff better that the 3rd worlds around us, i.e. like AEG or Metabo.
We dont though, and thats a shame. Hence whats happening to Holden etc…

      [/rant]

      • Yes, not too sure about the Swedish bit. Maybe they just made bits there. Dunno where I got the idea.

I agree about the second bit. Smaller scale higher tech items with high brain, low labor content. So they can be made competitively.

        • I actually think some of their older stuff was made in switzerland? One of my older circular saws was made in "W. Germany"… lol
