MEElectronics Air-Fi Venture Bluetooth Wireless Headphones / Headset: US $54.99 + $19.95 Postage

160
OzBargainVenture0114

I received several requests over the past few weeks for another deal on one of our wireless sets so I've created an OzBargain exclusive $65 off coupon code for this weekend on our Air-Fi Venture AF52 Headphones.

The Venture delivers an enhanced-bass sound with no-frills Bluetooth operation. It's very straightforward and easy to use and sounds great whether you use it wired or wireless. Additional features include:

  • Built-in microphone and remote for headset functionality
  • Over-the-ear fit in a compact form factor
  • Can be used wired via the included detachable audio cable
  • Battery life of approximately 18 hours at top volumes and even longer at reasonable volumes

Coupon code is "OzBargainVenture0114". All prices listed are in USD. There is a limit of 2 per order and the coupon will expire next Monday, January 20th, at midnight PST. This time around our inventory is limited but hopefully we won't run out before Monday.

International postage will come out to $19.95 for one unit and $30.95 for two via standard 1st class mail.

Delivery times vary but are typically between 10 and 20 business days for 1st class. FedEx shipping is also available at an additional cost and delivers in just a few days.

With our wireless headphones the goal has always been to deliver sound quality competitive not only with other wireless sets, but with similarly-priced wired headphones as well. For a review of the Venture please see here.

A note on compatibility - the Venture is compatible with Bluetooth 2.1 and newer devices that support A2DP for stereo audio. In practical terms, this means they will work with all modern smartphones and tablets (as long as they have Bluetooth built in) as well as Mac computers manufactured in 2011 or later. Windows computers a little more complicated and require some setup but as long as the hardware is compatible (Bluetooth 2.1 or newer and A2DP support) it should be possible to set up a wireless headphone under Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.

As before, I will gladly answer any questions as best I can. I can also be contacted by email at customerservice(at)meelec.com or directly at mike(at)s2einc.com .

Thank you all for your feedback and support. All comments and suggestions are welcome!

Thanks again Mike for trying to assist the OzBargain community, I hope people jump on board! This looks like a great deal, but it's a shame the USD is so strong against the AUD (currently 0.89c). Personally, I don't think I'll pull the trigger on this as I am waiting for a bluetooth wireless In-Ear Headphones/Earphones deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/126364#comment-1739648 - Any ETA?

    • We have final (ish) production samples but with the Chinese New Year holiday coming up it might be a little while before we have the first units on hand. I would say late February/March is reasonable.

      • I'm also looking for some decent BT sports headphones. Hopefully the ones your working on will fit the bill.

        • That's definitely the plan!

      • Thanks Make, im sure many of us here look forward to seeing what you've created!

  • where is your new product for 2014 :)

  • Anyone heard these or know if they are any good?

    • I bought these from their last post. Just did a bit of comparison test. Using a HTC One playing 320kbps MP3s (so obviously I'm not an audiophile) I'd say:

      If Audiotechnica ATH-50 is 9/10,

AF52 via detachable cable is 8.5/10

and AF52 via Bluetooth is 7/10 and is by no mean bad sound.

And for the sake of it, Apple EarPod is 3/10 for me. And to me portability is very important and AF52 strikes the right balance of convenience and quality (plus the subtle styling). Just wish it has apt-X as A2DP just can't fill the potential.

    $5 more than the last month, but still pretty good pricing;
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125976

  • I'm tempted, but last time I bought headphones over the internet they turned out to be horrible (Sony Monitors). What's your return policy? I don't want to end up spending ~$90AUD on headphones I don't like.

    • I don't think this will be a problem with our headphones - I can probably count all of the Venture and Matrix returns we've had on my fingers. Either way, there is a no-questions-asked return policy with no restocking fees so all you're risking is the shipping charge.

    • You won't regret it - I have 2 pairs of the AF-62.No other competitor has anywhere the same battery life.

I have Senheiser MM100's for running though - be delighted if I can get something similar from MEE!

      • Are those comfortable? We've steered away from behind-the-neck designs in the past because they never seem to fit everyone comfortably. We do have plans to augment the Air-Fi range with a simple entry-level (sub-$80 MSRP) model so we'll see what happens.

I bought this on your last deal, and it is pretty good wireless headphone. Good size and comfortable on my ear with good noise cancelling. Well recommended for other fellow ozbargainer

    • Is there anything you dislike about them? Anything you wish you knew before you bought them? :)

      • Never have BT headset before so could not compare with other, but if I compare with PS3 wireless headset, this one is lighter and more pleasant to use.

I just wish our dollar is better like b4 then I might buy another one for spare.

+1 for great service and response from MEElectronics!

    • +1 As well 7 Pairs now and I cant fault them for the price

  • Hi Rep,

I'd like a set for the TV in the bedroom which does not come with Bluetooth, so I will need a headphone socket to BT adapter. Do you offer anything like that for the TV side ?Would be great if the headphones can also support multiple BT sources.

With my TV unfortunately, once I plug anything into the headphone socket, I have to physically unplug it in order for the internal speakers to work. I can't just select a different output with the remote. I've tried the wireless ones that use RF, but the quality is poor and connection is hit-and-miss.

    Thanks!

You can use what’s called a "TV Bluetooth adapter" to add Bluetooth functionality to your TV. We don’t manufacture them but something like this will work: http://www.amazon.com/SOUNDS-CS-QLINK-Stereo-Transmitter-Blu… . All of our headphones use the A2DP Bluetooth standard, which is also supported by these TV dongles.

The TV dongle plugs into the analog audio output of your TV - either 3.5mm headphone jack or RCA audio jacks. By the way, using the white+red RCA jacks, if your TV has them, is a way to get around your TV getting muted with something plugged into the headphone jack. Typically the analog (RCA) audio line out does not mute the TV's speakers.

Bluetooth is in my opinion superior to RF in several ways, most of them stemming from the nature of the digital transmission. There's no drama with bluetooth - no static and no volume variation. You either get a signal or you don't. If your dongle sits next to or in front of your TV you can get pretty good range (it varies a little by dongle).

I have read that bluetooth headphones can sometimes have delays… ok for music but not good for movies.

I use the Audiomate Digital Audio Adaptor (AM8112).. really good for watching tv.. no delays and works over a long distance.

      see http://www.audiomate.com.au/products.html

      see review

      http://apcmag.com/Content.aspx?id=9364

I have an LG that allows you to switch the audio out via remote… can you output from another source?

      • Ah, that looks something like the Kleer wireless tech that Mercedes uses: http://www.slashgear.com/mercedes-add-kleer-wireless-audio-t… .

With Bluetooth delays really depend on the transmitter and how long it takes to encode the analog stream into digital (and also decode it back later in the headphones, but that's pretty consistent). When I watch Netflix on my Galaxy S4 there's no delay as far as I can tell but with other sources there can be a delay that varies in severity from insignificant to noticeable. Cheap computer USB dongles are the worst offenders.

You can also eliminate lag if both the transmitter and receiver support a low-latency Bluetooth codec like aptX. Unfortunately this is still not very commonplace - maybe in a year or two.

  • awesome…sadly I cant justify these at the moment. So tempted!

  • Coincidentally I was just in the market for my first wireless headphones set. I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to stuff like this, was wondering if someone can help me out with a question -

I'm probably going to run it with my desktop which doesn't have bluetooth inbuilt. I do have those cheap nasty $1 bluetooth dongles (bluetooth 2.0 i think), will that work with this? Particularly as I've got no idea how to pair them.

    • Using a cheap bluetooth adapter, I managed to get sound working with my pc, but it was choppy and kept cutting out. Also, the microphone feature didn't work at all. Perhaps with a better quality adapter it might but I'm yet to buy one.

Works great with my android phone though; the range is about 10 meters through a couple of walls.
Sound is awesome too. Nice and bassy, and extremely loud. You'd have to be mad (or very deaf) to need the highest volume on these!

      • Dang, thanks. The lack of BT on my desktop is probably the one thing holding me back from jumping on this - looks like I might have to get a receiver unit type wireless set.

      • The dongle is probably the issue - see my comment above

Cheap computer USB dongles are the worst offenders.

The quality of USB dongles really does vary quite a bit. You'll want one that's fairly modern (2.0 is very old) and comes from a company that specializes in that sort of thing to make sure you get updated drivers. There's even an audible difference in sound quality between the generic 2.1 dongle I got off ebay for $3.79 and the Bluetooth 4.0 one from Azio that I'm using now. It seems the low-cost dongle used a higher audio compression ratio for whatever reason.

        • I've bitten the bullet, placed an order this afternoon. How much do those bluetooth 4.0 thingos go for?

        • A well-reviewed one on amazon will run ~$15 or so.

  • rep can you do the matrix for around AUD80-90 top, including shipping?

    • Sorry, we are out of stock on the Matrix and will be for at least a month. With the current exchange rate it won't be possible to do AUD90 shipped for this model with the cost of shipping factored in (shipping is more expensive for the Matrix due to its weight). If the Australian dollar gets stronger in a month then who knows.

P.S. The 2014 Matrix will have a couple of updates compared to the 2013 one including more comfortable pads, Bluetooth 4.0, an updated NFC chip, aptX support, and longer battery life.

  • Any ETA on when the new Ventures will be available?

    • The new Matrix? I would say late February/March.
