          @ Tal,

The bandwagon tools mistook you as the one who didn't know the codes even though you were actually referring to someone else who negged the comments.

        • Better IDCLIP your way outta here

Although the end Boss "speech" played backwards is "To win the game you must kill me, John Romero." :-)

  • Thanks, bought one for me and one for my girlfriend.

it was going to be but after doing a bit more research doom 3 bfg doesnt have co-op!

        • +1

The original Doom 3 has mods that allow co-op. Negates the scare factor somewhat but it's still pretty awesome.

In many ways it takes 3 steps forward and 2 steps back from the original:

    • It adds a stupid checkpoint-based save system (what was wrong with saving/quicksaving?).
    • Narrower field of view.
    • Almost no graphical options: http://www.gamespot.com/forums/pc-mac-discussion-1000004/do-…
    • Some have complained it actually looks worse than the 2004 original (it does imo: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-doom-3-bfg-…) and that's likely due to the addition of a new blurring effect and extra compression for the consoles. (Doom 3 with balls-out, massive texture packs is what a proper HD remake should look like imo: http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=24708)
    • A perpetual flashlight (yes not being able to hold a gun and flashlight at the same time was irritating but also undeniably suspenseful).
    • Only select textures/scenes have been "re-mastered" in higher resolution; so the end result is a game that looks like bits of it were made now, while the majority was made a decade ago.
    • Not compatible with all of the previous, legendary Doom 3 mods (Sikkmod/Wufen's textures/Sound Replacement Pack).
    • Some levels have been altered to fit within console size/performance constraints but were kept that way for no real reason on the PC port too. Same goes with the flashlight not casting dynamic shadows (the consoles were too slow for that, but they still turned off dynamic shadows in the PC port).
    • Worse loading times than the original.
    • The "New" Lost Missions reuse so many pre-existing assets from the EnPro chapter of the game that you can barely tell it apart anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv1nKtRH4xE

My verdict, grab the original and just mod the heck out of it (the modding community for Doom 3 was huge; plenty of content to explore). This is just a consolised cash grab from a developer who has long since been over-the-hill. Up-voted for the price though, not the content.

    • Sounds more like two steps forward and three steps back, to be honest.

  • Link's dead by the way. OzBargained at 12AM EST?

    • Appears to be working for me.

  • Great price, I think this edition also includes older Doom releases.

      Yes it includes Doom 1 & 2.

      • And Final Doom I believe…

  • Thanks Op. Bought a copy.

  • Worth it.

Picked it up for $5 in a Dick Smith sale on Xbox.
