  • How long did it take to convince the salesman OP?

  • +3

Sorry, I might be missing something here…..$1600 for a desktop case without monitor, with a fairly basic GT 640 DDR3 graphics?? Is there any component(s)that makes this case so expensive?

    • the glorified "HP" Logo lol

    • perhaps the 3tb hdd and the blu-ray burner. even so i think the price is still too high.

      HP. Highly Priced?

  • +2

Wouldnt it be cheaper just to build this.

  • +2

Not seeing the deal here. Should be able to get a similar specced system for around $1200

  • +1

nice that they include a $100 vga with it…

  • +2

For the price and the name, i expect this thing to come back to life if it dies!

  • +1

the vga will be the bottleneck of the system…

    This deal looks horrible.

a whole 16 GB mSATA SSD!

    oh mah gahd

you can install windows on it… oh wait

    • think the os alone is like 20gb?

      • yeah but you need some apps too…

        for $1.6k you be expecting a 128Gb ssd and a $200 vga

        • yea.. i expect a half decent vga at the minimum. a Gt 640 is like… really old tech.

    • I didnt even know they made 16GB SSD

What would it be used for??? (maybe fast loading of pron ;-)

  • +2

No wonder the salesman came down to $1600, they are still making $900

Using the specs here - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docn…

I came up with the following from MSY. The HP actually has liquid CPU cooling. Also made some assumptions as to reasonable quality case/psu. SSD obviously better in the below.

Price works out slightly cheaper (definately not $1750). Original deal price isn't terrible considering warranty + build costs. Hardly a bargain though.

    • +1 for effort

I'd drop down to an i5 and 8gb of ram to upgrade the video card personally

  • +1

    Not worth it.
You can buy 2 about the same specs with this money, seriously.

  • "Managed to negotiate"… It seems that the Sales Rep in fact negotiated a higher price for an underspec'd PC.

  • Probably be a great price if it had some sort of, you know, fruit-ish logo! :p

  • suggest op to just go and ask for a refund or something. obviously overpaid for something that's extremely underspecced.

  • LOL. The box is like an old compaq case with a bit of perspex cutout and a red led.

  • Its 1449 from hp site which is still high. Bear in mind my 8 yrs old pavilion 7000 series media centre pc with p4 still going strong which i bought for $800 from myer brand new. I think 1000-1200 is reasonable price but again if op happy with the price he paid its good.

  • The graphics card in my new $1500 laptop is better:
    http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-765M-vs-GeForce-GT-640

And in general, so is that machine for less (Asus G750); cost less, comes with full HD screen, keyboard, trackpad, portable. for the $100 difference I can add a Samsung Evo 120 SSD and have more quick storage too!

  • unfortunately JB has ripped you a new one

  • JB ripped you off bro.

  • When I first seen this deal I thought this must have been a laptop for the price. I guess not.

  • No wonder the JB HI-FI share price is soaring :-)
