If you require more data, the Virgin $60 plan has no handset repayments for the S4 and comes with 2.5GB data.
Better network in my experience too.

    • No way does virgin have a better network. Optus is struggling of late.

Much cheaper still is to grey import the phone from Kogan, uniquemobiles etc for $550-600 and then join a cheap MVNO like Vaya (Optus Reseller) for $18/mth.

Cheaper over the 24 months and no lock in contracts.

Better still - buy the Nexus 5 which is superior to the S4 for $400-450 (+$20 delivery) and be even further ahead.

Total cost over 24 months = $902 for 32GB model vs $1200 from Vodafone for an already almost 12 month old phone and which will only get worse after 2 years. Better call reception and plan inclusions to boot.

Phone plans are dead (if you know what you're doing and have the cash on hand).

    • prepaid plans used to be good, but they are getting worse, especially now that the big three are increasing the price for resellers.
Aldi's halved the data allowance, Boost only has 2GB now
Vaya and LiveConnected (Same company) increased prices this year as well.
All Virgin's postpaid plans had data halved, prices stayed the same.

I really hope the tele industry is not going to go that way, people are already getting ripped off enough

      • Woolies is still good if u have a preexisting sim.

    • can you please supply us with a url link for the nexu5 for $400-450 (+$20 delivery) ?

    • One thing I've considered is the ease of warranty when you go with a carrier. Currently on a plan, and will probably go on Vaya afterwards (using the same Optus lines as Virgin so reception is the same). Although my HTC One X went bust recently and sent it to them for service (24 month contracts auto get 24 month warranty). So not too bad, not too sure how warranty works with grey imports though

  • Is there any particular reason why this isn't a good deal if someone really wanted a S4? While I agree others have mentioned Nexus 5, but isn't that deviating a little?
And isn't the S4 still a relatively new phone? It was announced in March but only really released around mid-year, so just over 6 months old in reality? Hardly almost 12 months imo.
Kogan is selling its import version for 600ish (incl. delivery), if you add the increasingly prepaid plans over 24 months and take out the 24 months warranty - I'm still of the opinion that this is a better deal in the long term.
