$79 Huawei Ascend G300+ Vodafone Pre-Paid Mobile @ Coles (RRP $99)

140

Pretty good deal as the G300+ supports Telstra's 850MHz as well as Optus' 900MHz and 2100MHz whereas the standard G300 only supports 850MHz and 2100MHz. So in theory, if you use an Optus SIM (assuming the phone is now unlocked) you'll get better coverage with the G300+ in comparison to the G300.

Deal is on page 23 of current Coles catalogue.

Also a good deal for those (like me) that have Flybuys and can get a $20 Coles voucher for spending over $100, effectively brings the phone price down to $59.

Have you recently received a targeted email offering this promotion? I can only find a similar one that ended Xmas eve:

Yes I have, for the last 2 weeks running, it seems this $20 voucher for $100 spend is the replacement for the fuel discounting that Coles (and Woolies) got wrapped over the knuckles for. I actually prefer this as the fuel discount rarely came to $20.
Good to see the OzB night-owls are out….

Buying from Vodafone Direct would be much cheaper using cash back site qwibble. It gives 32% cash back . Which effectively cost $53.72.

The Link for qwibble is http://www.qwibble.com.au/vodafone-pre-paid-phones-total-val…

However this cash back are strictly on basis of your transaction being tracked by cash back site and couple of months of waiting to get money back in your bank account.

    • Sounds good, maybe you should post this as a separate deal?

    • tried to sign up said needed to click confirmation email which was never sent clicked on link to resend email still not being sent not a great start.

      • If you using Gmail check your spam or promotion tab….

        Gmail is gone funnier….

  • Yes! I have a $20 voucher for $80 spend targeted offer. All that ignoring of Coles is paying off now. :D

  • OP, if I do the ICS update will I still have to unlock it?

    • +1

Yes. The updates never unlock the phone.

Get the Y300 same price, it comes JellyBean stock and supports 4.4 CM

    • Also the Y300 has Gorilla Glass. Plus the Y300 is the same price at Officeworks (in fact $1 cheaper), JB HiFi, BigW and possibly others. Hard to imagine why you'd consider the G300.

        For the 900MHz I guess.

      • Looking at the specs the G300+ has gorilla glass as well. If you are with Telstra I guess you won't need the 900Mhz either.

Ok, thanks. No hurry to use the voucher then. I'll hold off upgrading my old Gingerbread mobile which still works fine but I have to decline updates all the time because memory is full. Maybe the G526 will get cheaper soon.

      • +1 for the G526 being cheaper soon?

  • Great phone for the price! Typing this comment on it now. But it does like to occasionally crash to the home screen when typing. My sister's one does this also. Give it a restart every night. The ram and internal storage sucks. I can't update large apps on it as it says memory is full. Even though I have tx most to my SD card.

It's my phone, car navigator, camera, star finder, MP3 player and TV remote in one. Got it for 99 bucks at dse last year.

  • phone is same price at woolwoths (QLD at least - locked to vodaphone)

  • Just a note that it doesn't have a front facing camera. Bought one last year and just assumed all phones now had them and didn't go through the spec in detail..

  • So the Y300 is the same price on the JB website. Why not go for that instead?

  • +1

New Y320 is also available in various places for $119 (standard price.)
Same specs as Y300 except 4.2, 1.3GHz, BT 3.0 but no front cam and only 2MP rear cam.

Waiting for this range of phones to have 1GB RAM…

  • Got one for my son - any ideas where to buy a case from other than O/S ones from ebay?

  • We have one of these. Extremely slow, with no apps installed. If anyone has a tip to fire this thingy up a bit?

    • Try a factory reset, but save all your files to PC first.
