Laplink PCmover Windows Upgrade Assistant FREE

150

On 4 February 2014, Laplink are giving their PCmover Upgrade Assistant for free, only for 24 hours. Because Microsoft will be discontinuing technical support, security upgrades and hotfixes for Windows XP, Laplink are encouraging people to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8 using PCmover.

"PCmover Windows Upgrade Assistant is the ONLY software that automatically moves all selected files, settings, user profiles, and even programs from any version of Windows to Windows 7 or 8! Because most transferred applications are installed ready-to-use on the new PC, there’s usually no need to find old CDs, previously downloaded programs, serial numbers, or license codes. It is the only way to do an in-place upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7, and it’s the only way to do a “cross-architecture” upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version"

Wow its been over 15years ever since I have heard of Laplink.

I remember using them back in the old days of serial cables and cross over cables, to transfer files without any hubs.

I remeber I used a parallel cable at the time. The price was $20.

      • +1 for the parallel cable - I remember that one. Plus having to get into the bios to set EPP/ECP mode, 4bits/8bits.
And it was still painfully slow…but it worked, and there were very few alternatives

  • RS-232 null modems… I was there when it happened

        • Xtree FTW! Geez, that takes me back. And Lotus Magellan!

        • I'm just puzzled why you wouldn't just use the xcopy command. I suppose some people haven't upgraded to DOS 3.2 yet.

what about Norton Commander? along with Laplink this 40kb gem was on all my boot discs, and by disc i mean 5 1/4" floppy disc, remember back then you had serial & lpt ports no usb, Laplink was like a usb drive only better in the sense that you never ran out of space like a usb drive
