Free GHD Air Hair Dryer (Worth $199) with 12mth Subscription of Marie Claire Magazine for $69

1860

The official deal is for a 12 mths subscription of Marie Claire* for $69 which equates to a saving of 32% ($31.80) off the street price of $8.40 per issue. That to me is not a deal as I only buy the occasional issue when they have good free samples with that particular month's issue.

The real cincher here is that the first 300 subscriber get a free GHD Air hair dryer. These are top-of-the-range hair dryers in the current market today and have an RRP of $199 (but can be found on ebay for $127 delivered).

Now I've used one of these dryers before (at a salon when getting my hair done) and they are great at cutting down drying time with the 2100w motor without leaving hair feeling like it's been blitzed tinder dry. The ionic technology also helps to keep hair feeling soft and looking silky smooth, cutting down on the need to use additional styling products. It has 2 heat settings, 2 fan settings and a cool shot function. For more information, check out the official product page.

So effectively you could get a great styling product almost half the cheapest price and 12 mths worth of magazine reading. Good Buy and have already made my order tonight. Be quick since it's meant to be limited to the first 300 subscribers.

Would make a good gift for the gf (valentines day is coming up), sister, mum or yourself if there is no one out there to spoil you.

  • Marie Claire is a monthly publication on Fashion, style, beauty and health, peppered with the occasional feature article covering current womens' issues. • I called up the company and the guy (Josh) said the same thing. Also it would take at least 48 hours for them to see on their system because they have not processed the online orders so they don't know til its all processed.

  • +8

looks like a bit of a bait and switch at this point. Would love one (the wifes hair dryer blew up yesterday)but the chances of getting one at this stage are almost zero as there seem to have been a HEAP of online orders and when you ring up they say "we are unable to confirm if you are in the first 300 as it takes 48 hours to process online orders" but then go on to say we will send you out a replacement gift of equal value and then if you are not happy you have to send back the gift to then get a refund. Sounds like a lot of work and what sort of ordering system do they have if they cant see at a glance where there orders are upto????

  • +2

This is a good hair dryer, mainly because of the ceramic heating element and powerful motor. Quite heavy though.

The "ionic" technology is absolute bulls&**, though. Supposedly, the hair dryer emits "negative ions" (what ions exactly?) which are supposed to protect your hair or some rubbish.

In truth, static charges in air break down extremely quickly. The only way that the dryer is going to impart some electrical charge to your head is if an arc of electricity jumps from the dryer to your head. Which would probably kill you.

  • +1

Ordered anyway… We'll see what they end up doing i guess. Maybe we might get lucky on the $199 substitute item ?? Feels a bit like a lucky dip.

    Order # 153201X for reference.

  • order #15320XX,, Thanks Op..Cheers

  • Or you can get the magazine online for free with libarary subscription on zinio

    • +1

And pay $199 for the GHD hair dryer.

      • +1

No one's going to get that hair dryer this late in the game

    • +1

Yeah, the cost of the magazines is irrelevant. This deal should read pay $69 for a GHD Air with free delivery, get 12 months of Marie Claire magazine free. Even without the magazines this is a crazy deal.

  • +3

This review of SubscribeToday puts me off taking the gamble:

"…I subscribed for 12 issues of Marie Claire magazine last Xmas due to the offer of free Lancome serum worth $80. I was told the gift would arrive within 6 to 8 weeks. After 8 weeks and no gift, i called them and was told to wait another 28 days. I called again after 28 days and was told to wait again or take 3 extra issues. I opted to wait. It is now mid April and still no gift. I realise that the gift offer is gimmick to lure sucker like me. They have no intention of sending gift…" ~cyclenut

    • I've always got my magazine subscription gifts. It's worth the gamble.

  • It does state on the final order page with your number 'limited to first 300 subscriptions' so they do have this to go back to if you miss out.

Same old issue of will they take care of customers in what has been a successful promo in which the main driver was to up subscriptions by honoring the deal or will they refer to T&Cs and piss everybody off thus resulting in a negative promotion.

  • +2

    What is Marie Claire?

  • Thanks so much, great deal!

  • +1

People are still able to order? This is going to turn ugly.

  • So called Marie Clare to find out if I was in the 300 that got a hair dryer… They said If you don't get the hair dryer you get a different gift, but if you aren't happy with it then you can cancel the subscription and send the gift back

    • +2

I really hope for their sake (and ours) they allocate according to order number. Because they will be bombarded with cancellations. They need to kill the page and ad too, if the ghd allocation is exhausted.

  • +3

Would have been perfect for the mrs, but can't be stuffed having to fight for a refund if it goes sour.

  • +11

I called up to find out what's happening. Spoke to a really nice girl. She said the promotion has been running since a few days ago (either Tues or Wed, can't remember which one). The first few days were really quiet and yesterday they still had 100 left, they didn't process much yesterday - all orders are processed at the end of the day. However, this morning is when things got really busy, hence why they are offering the other complimentary gift for everyone else. She put through an order herself yesterday and she doesn't even have confirmation whether she's getting one but she's assuming she will because she said there were still lots left (100 at least) when she was working on Thursday, seems there is no staff benefits.

A letter will be posted out in 5-10 business days confirming subscription and the gift (it won't confirm what the gift item is). The warehouse will just ship out the hair dryers/gifts in 6-8 weeks, so probably around March 21 or a bit. There is no confirmation of the item we will receive, we will only find out once we get it in the post. So that will be 6 weeks of hoping!

The way they determine the order numbers is through the time they log the orders or something like that. Also if we ring back next week they still won't be able to confirm if your order is one of the first 300 getting the hair dryer because it just all goes to the warehouse.

Gift can be returned and subscription cancelled, money refunded can be done.

    • +1

Thanks for your efforts. Good info.

    • +2

Wonder if they will pay return postage.

      • +2

So the likely outcome for most of us would be

        • Paid 12 month subscription
        • Wait a few months to find that the "substitute" gift is rubbish. Opt to return gift and cancel the remainder of the subscription
        • In the end, we have already paid a few months of subscription for a magazine you use to peel oranges
        • +6

how do you peel oranges with a magazine?

        • maybe a magazine for orange peels perhaps?

  • +8

After doing a bit of research I Bought a VS Milano Model VSP6614A for $82 from HN Comes with 5 year Manufacturers Warranty and has the Ionic & Ceramic technology, I looked at the GHD and the Parlux but was put of by $100++ price tag and only 12 months Warranty, Just a Heads up to anyone looking at Purchasing a Hair Dryer. Without the Marie Claire gamble.

  • order number is now at 153221X

  • Order # 153222X, still getting the "marie claire - 1 Year (12 issues) SAVE 32% + FREE ghd air hairdryer"

    We'll see.

    • When it hits 153300X, the ghd hairdryer will be gone.

      • Are you sure ??? My order number is 153063X … so maybe it is way past already. (I believe their ordering system calculates all magazine orders not only this special … so you can't tell from the number … it will be a gamble.)

        • whoops, forgot that with the X, it becomes 4 digits, I wish they allocated 3000 instead of 300 hairdryers.

  • going to be a blood bath of people canceling if they dont get their hair dryer. wouldnt want to be the person doing all the cancelation

    • +1

There is always c/c chargeback if they don't play ball too.

    • easier to get more hairdryer from china in the shipping container:)

  • -1

Everyone's reference number on here that I'm reading ends with "x" but mine…. 1532026 is my number. Make's me even more suss.

    • It's got to do with identification.

      • +3

People are replacing the last numeral in their order number with X for privacy reasons.

    • +12

My credit card number is 4940 9732 5252 XXXX

      What's yours?

      • +1

        Mine is 4940 9732 5252 3478 CCV XXX:D

  • +1

Classic bait and switch. They've had thousands of orders, but it is still up and they will send you something of "similar value". But you won't know until 2months+ from now when the gift is sent whether you get what you ordered or randomly something else.

You then have to try and cancel, at which oint you will only get back money for the issues not sent yet + you have to pay postage to send back the "item". So most people won't bother. And if you do bother, who knows how many months until you get the money bacl. I feel like I should change my plus to a neg on this obvious bait and switch alone, but oh well. Keeping it on the rare miracle that they send something actually useful and not a $20 item with an inflated RRP.

    @Nahari01
I think most people just censored the last number, it doesn't actually end with an x. Doesn't really matter though, not like you can do much with the order number.

    • Ahh…thank you! :)

  • Assuming all 300 are gone and cancelling is going to be a hassle, will give it a miss. Thanks for sharing OP.

  • I impulsively subscribed the magazines at 9am this morning, and after reading people's comments I realised there is no way I'd get the hair drier, I regretted my action. Should I just cancel it right now to avoid all the drama returning the "substitude gift" and getting the refund?

    • I do think the same should I cancel my order right now instead of waiting for two months and paying for couple of issues which I am not going to read at all.

    • +3

Hope is like a road in the country; there was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence.

  • Thansk Ordered too and fingers crossed!

Order was successful, Order Reference Number: 15323XX

  • This reminds me of a Virgin Online deal - HTC phone with free beats solo* *for a limited time. I called them up to confirm if they still had stock, which they did. Then upon receiving the phone, there were no headphones - their response was, "it was for a limited time". I said, if you have no stock, then why are you still advertising the free Beats Solo? eventually after getting the ombudsman involved they allowed me buy one with proof of receipt, and I was reimbursed back for it.

I gambled for this deal anyway, hoping I’ll get the hair dryer for mum.

    • Wow, nice work!

  • -1

the deals nearly half gone. up to 142 votes now. I need to get home to see if my neice want one.

    • +2

Pretty sure the deal is WELL gone. 142 votes doesn't mean 142 subscribed….

I'd say over a thousand were bought by now.

    • Yes, the number of votes here has no bearing on how many have been sold. The deal has been "clicked" over 4000 times.

  • Does anyone know if you need to cancel this after 12mths?

    • There is no need to cancel after 12 mths as all or 11 of your mag would have delivered to you. The refund amount would likely to be $0 or $5.75 for your subscription's last single mag issue.

      • He meant in the end of the subscription, if they will renew it automatically or not as some companies do

        • Yeh that's what I meant. Would they just sign me up for another 12 months? Or is this a once off? I couldn't find anywhere to mention one or the other

  • +1

Just received the following email from them,

Confirming the subscription details and very clearly showing the GHD Air as a gift item to be sent within 28 days.

    http://imageshack.com/a/img801/7366/ekul.png

    • +1

I also received the same email.

    • +1

      Myself as well

    • +1

Got the same e-mail as well.

Ordered on the night it was posted at 11:55PM

    • I ordered mine around 9am the morning after. I don't think it means much to be honest, just that they have processed the order.

My guess is everyone is going to get the email. But you never know, we may be in the lucky 300 ?

    • +1

Same email confirming ghd gift (item code P00470) - ordered around 11.30pm on Thursday. Will be interesting to see what the much later orders receive on their equivalent email.

    • Same

    • Yep, got the same email. GHD it is.

  • Not sure if in any sequential order…but i just ordered, at the risk of having to cancel when no hairdryer turns up.
    Up to Order #153341X.
Order was successful and page still insists my free hairdryer is due to arrive. Yay!
Good thing they allow you to choose when to start the subscription (June 2014, thank you).

People who already subscribe, do they send you GWP when there is one?? Reason is I used to subscribe Dolly/Girlfriend in my heydays cough-15years ago-endcough and noticed I never got any freebie GWP delivered with my mag - felt I missed out. LOL.

Now, fingers crossed and rose tinted optimist sunglasses on with Mr Whippy playing his haunting tune in the background.

    • You never get the freebies with subscriptions. You save on the magazines but miss out on any goodies.

  • Yep I just received the same email! Mine was ordered on the 6/2 at around 11:40PM (SA TIME)

    • +1

got the same email. ordered at 1am VIC time.

I selected start issue in June. so hopefully the gift gets here before the mag does.
      Otherwise will cancel in April.

  • -1

So basiclly we can cancel subscription after we receive our hairdryer/gift and the fist mag issue to get refund for the rest. Which make it ~$8 for the gift

    • noo.. 12 months subscription min. u still need to pay for 12 months even u cancelled anytime before

      • +3

If you cancel early you have to return the gift. Cancelling is for people who don't receive or get allocated the ghd gift (or a gift they would like to keep). You can't cancel and keep the $199 gift - we are cheapskates, but not that cheap.

  • -1

The email confirmation saying I will be receiving mc GHD Air dryer, item code P00470 within 28days. So they better send me one otherwise I will call up ACCA. Luring customer to subscribe their magazine without the actual gift item, is going to be big trouble :)

    • +2
      • Sorry I mean ACCC

    • You know ACCC has no power to force a business to act and do anything. They are powerless and should be shut down. I went to them twice and they are hopeless, the answer they gave is they have no power to act or force a business to do blah blah, they even suggested me went to court with the business involved despite they agreeing I was 100% right in the first place.

      • -1

c/c chargeback has the power to get you a refund

      • i thought they would contact the business and mediate for you. a bit like what the obudsmand kind of do except they charge the companies fees.
I've used them once for a small business which promised to return until the problem was solved and didn't come back after the first couple of time. I still had problems. So they managed to get half my money back.

  • +1

Got the same email confirming the GHD that everyone else got. Was hoping someone would have gotten an email listing another item, but sounds like everyone got this one (even the ones who ordered the day after. Keeping in mind that they only seemed to have 100 left BEFORE any orders from here (which seems to be very substantial), so I'm sure the 300 would have been long long gone by then.

Anyway, going to be very interesting to see how they will wiggle their way out of this one as the new email confirms that we are in fact getting this item.

If anyone got a different email, please let us know :)

  • Got the same email. My start date is August, so hopefully if they don't send me the Ghd, I can cancel in time :)

  • My order number was 153202X and I got that second email stating I was receiving the GHD.

    • Yeah, see that is 1500 higher than mine. There is no way any dryers would be left. I'm definitely bookmarking this thread to see how the next month or two pans out :)

      • The fact that people with order numbers starting with 1532xxx are getting the same emails as people with 1530xxx isn't a good sign imo.

  • +2

If u go through the actual subscription website and not the ozbargain link u get this: it could of been there for ages

SORRY! We have run out of stock of the ghd Hairdryer! Alternatively, we can offer you Lancome Visionnaire Cream as a replacement when you subscribe to marie claire for a year.

LancĂ´me Visionnaire Correcting Polishing Cream with LR 2412 molecule is capable of correcting skin texture and tone irregularities for refined, luminous, even skin. Together with its polishing pad, it re-texturises the skin to unveil a transparent finish.

    • That message was definitely not there when I signed up on Friday morning!

I am very disappointed. How do you go about cancelling? Is there any way we can insist on the hairdryer given that it was promised when we ordered (and in the confirmation email)?

I don't think they should be allowed to send anything until they email everyone who is not receiving the hairdryer to advise them of the situation and receive their consent to proceed with the order given that the free gift has changed.

      • +1

i called up cos my email said "GHD" but when the subscription page refreshed it said the cream.
The guy said to wait 48 hours from when you signed up for the order to process and then call up to cancel with full refund in ur account in 5-10 buis days

  • I've just cancelled my subscription. Found out the hair dryers ran out sometime Friday. The replacement gift is $150 of Lancome products which doesn't interest me at all. Find it a joke that their excuse that the website couldn't be updated cause it was the weekend and therefore that's why the offer was still being shown Sunday 9/2. It is 2014, isn't it? I'm told the refund will go back on my credit card within 10 working days. Fingers crossed

  • Beware they are substituting ghd dryer with face cream( supposedly worth $120) for subscribing!

  • +1

I just called. I am getting a hair dryer, he says "congratulations you are one of the lucky 300, we quote about 6 weeks for delivery but it could come sooner".

My order number was 153202X and I ordered about 10:15am on Friday.

    • I ordered 2 hours before you my order number was 15317XX , I guess that means I will get the dryer as well :)

    • I was 153201X and ordered around 9:20am Friday. Will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

  • I ordered either 10:30 or 11:30 am on Friday and also confirmed via phone that I will be receiving the ghd.

  • I've emailed to see if I got a hair dryer, if I didn't I'll cancel the subscription, going by you guys I should as I ordered Thursday night

  • I just called and they said they still can't tell me at this stage as they are still processing the orders and will probably finish it by the end of this week. They said another confirmation email will be sent to people to let them know if they are getting the hair dryer or not.

    • Seems they are telling different people different things

  • i jsut called and my order is 15316xx (friday at 7am) and i was "one of the lucky ones" as well

  • i think they are telling everyone " om of the lucky ones" to avoid any cancellation right now…
it cant be! some of the orders number more than my order number by a 1000 and getting hairdryer, and its only 300 available!

    • perhaps they are assigning the GHDs on a first call basis?

      • I doubt it

  • Basically anyone who ordered Thursday night or early Friday will get the dryer from what I've been told.
They are trying to secure some additional product but clearly stated first 300 orders only so time will tell.

  • +1

I ordered on Friday morning, Order number is 15319xx.I called up twice today and spoke to two different ppl. The first one was a guy who told me that he was unable to advise on which free gift I would be getting based on my order number. And he also said that I would NOT be able to cancel my order until I receive my free gift after 6 weeks. Once I receive the free gift then I can choose to return the free gift( if not the GHD hair dryer that I wanted) at my own postage cost and I will also have to pay for the issues of magazines I will have received by then. He said those rules are in the terms and condition of the this offer. The second time I spoke with a girl and I just told her that I wanted to cancel my order and she just did it for me without any questions and gave me a reference number for it. She did not say anything that the first guy told me. So was the first guy lying or not I dont know, I just need to wait for 5-10 working days to find out if the refund will come through to my credit card or not. I read on productreview website that it can take them more than 6 weeks to deliver their free gift and ppl had to keep ringing to chase up for it and the whole process can take months and months so I decided to cancel my order.

  • My order number is 15319xx ordered thursday morning. Spoke to a guy and he said he cant tell if ill be getting the hairdryer as they're sorting dispatching out but said ill be getting a lancome cream worth $125 ish if I dont get the hair dryer and said to call back in 48 hours and he'll hope to give me more info regarding if I get the hairdryer or not. He said if I dont like I have to send back the gift to cancel the subscription. I asked if I need to pay for postage - he said no, you can put RTS on the package. I asked what if it gets lost? He said as long as u let us know that ur intending to return it should be fine…..hrmmmm

    • "He said as long as u let us know that ur intending to return it should be fine"

I call bs. Very sus. These folks sound like they spin all different sorts of info to different callers. I'd bail out now, IMO, if you reckon you subscribed too late.
