Hi all,

With thanks to user Forgot69, saw this particular deal which would be quite good for those who enjoy Jane Austen.

I really dislike her novels though. All of them. I think I should neg this deal. The War of the Worlds is available too!

  • +1 for wanting to neg your own deal before anyone even provides feedback.
And for posting something which you don't like but others might :)

    • Yea, I know she is popular to some degree and even though I could barely get past the 5th page of "Emma," I remember others enjoying it.

Just waiting for Matthew Reilly to be free?

        • LOL. Ice Station was great! How did you know btw?

      • I met someone once who is an expert in her novels and is so obsessed with them. I don't know if she has uni qualifications, but she went to so literary conference OS to deliver a paper on analysis of the novels. Apparently there is all sorts of sex going on below the surface and physicl abuse. I bought some of the novels several years ago, to look for all these hidden things. Culdn't find them.

    • Yep, loved the humour Mafmouf.

It's reprehensible that they can advertise for sale (even with a zero dollar amount) a book that sits in the public domain. Project Gutenberg has this novel and many, many others for free, always, in a number of formats:

    http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1342

    • Thanks blitz! There are many other free books on that site.

    • There is a difference between the text and the published edition. The text is free to use :) but they can still charge for their "edition" and they have copyright over any formatting etc (although they may have done sweet FA).

Tldr - go find a free vsion, but they can still charge

    • Pretty sure its alway been free, on Play, Amazon and iTunes.

    • Yeah, Gutenberg even has them in formats suitable for Kindles and other readers so no need to register with Amazon, Play, etc. Plus you don't have to put up with the promotions that the republishers tack on. A book that is old is likely to be out of copyright and in Gutenberg.

  • Edit — what blitz said :)
