It's the cheapest price out there, but not a single tweeter in the whole system? All just one-way speakers? I think you'd get more sound quality out of a high-end logitech system of around the same price.

    • Yeah, this one made me quite confused too. Why one way speakers need so big size?

    • I think you'll find it has horn tweeters, similar to what Klipsch use.

  • Can anyone comment on the quality? are these things good

  • +1

I've got the previous version and personally I think the sound quality is great, just annoying because mine has 2 amps (extra one for the subs).
I'm tempted to upgrade at this price.

Side note - I'm not an audiophile. Obviously if your used to having a centre speaker that's worth more than this entire system it's not for you. For the price though they are amazing.

      Two amps?

I must have the model before that. One amp, 6.2 system. No hdmi.

The subs are really crap - I sold them.
The speakers are pretty bad (have a look at the data sheet, the distortion is about 10 or 100 times what would normally be listed at their given volume) but honestly they sound fine at the volume level you would use for movies and they are passable if not cranked too high for music.

Sound quality.. well, no. Theyre passable. There's clearly better on the market… but this is $500.

That pretty much sums it up, a mate has the older model & it's not particularly impressive at the ~$1.2k he paid, but pretty darn good value at less than half that! :)

I had one of these and sold it after a few months. The sound was muddy and there are lots better options around, even at this price.

    • No offence meant here, did you do a proper set up or did you slap it together really quickly expecting it to work out of the box and be awesome.

    • +1

I'm sure a few people would like to know what those options are..

      • There have been Jamo 5-piece speaker systems for ~$250 delivered before from Amazon (who actually have awesome high-end speakers at low cost), coupled to a ~$250 pioneer receiver that comes around on Ozbargain every now and then (sometimes they're even <~200).

  • it was $767 until mid january…..they might have another sale…

difference is this is 7.2, is $267 worth it for the 7.2?

  • I got the previous group deal for the Sony 5.1 system for $299 and I love it.
Not an audiophile either, but love having proper surround sound and a very solid sub.

    • is that $299 same spec as this one? same number of speakers?

      • Nah it was 5.1 where as this is 5.2. This has two subs and looks a bit more modern.

muteki… its Japanese for 'too much bass'

  • anyway we can just pay you directly and save another $50 and bypass all the BS Ebay/Paypal fees?

  • How do these compare to some of the Samsung setups? I'm very confused with what I can get between $500-1000. I'm after good crisp sound at that price range. Any ideas?

    • you won't get "crisp" with one-way speakers; if a single speaker has to handle everything from low to high, then it won't go very high. Maybe that's why you won't see the frequency range of the speakers advertised anywhere.

Art that looks good to one looks like crap to another.
Tv's that have amazing quality picture to you may be unwatchable to another because you insist on keeping motion flow/auto motion on making game of thrones and sons of anarchy look like it's a days of our lives spinoff.
Coke vs. Pepsi……. The list goes on.

It's all personal preference, I think this system is great. My dad is an audio nutter and has a amazing audio set up, I can't hear the difference between mine and his but there's no chance he would ever be happy with this set up. But that's the difference between being willing to spend $500 for a system and having a $5000 system.
If you've just used your stock tv speakers up to now then your mind will be blown.

maybe you just need your ears checked or learn to demo setups with something other than dubstep

      • Yes and no. There is no subjectivity as to whether a sound system is able to output all the frequencies, or the amount of THD. But I do agree, some people just don't seem to hear the difference. Personally, I am incapable of listening to inbuilt tv-speakers, and have been hooking my tv's up to dedicated speakers since I was 12. Unless you are very old, you should be able to hear that a one-way system is incapable of outputting the highs.

  • So what would be better , this muteki or the Samsung HT-F5550W , price is the same but Samsung has bluray

    http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/samsung-ht-f5550-5-1ch-3d-blu-…

    • Both probably have one-way speakers, but the Samsung one will have significantly less power. The 1000W will be "peak" power, which is very ambiguous. The power consumption and size of the amplifier will tell you that the actual power will not be very high. The satellites are large, but the actual speakers will be tiny, and most of the lows will come from the subwoofer (including sounds which ought to come from the actual speaker). These systems are more about "show" than "sound".
The Mutaki will give you more power. Neither will give "great" sound.

    • The non vacuum amp tube Samsung HT systems sound pretty ordinary in my experience for music. Sound effects/movies however are fine so if you just want a simple and hassle free HTIB setup, this could be for you. I personally have the E6750 from the last gen.

The Muteki definitely will have a lot more punch/kick in comparison, but neither are great for music quality.

  • I was tempted when I saw it in the store (man it's macho) but it definitely isn't up there for sound quality. That being said I'm a bit confused, I thought the system I saw was 7.2 whereas this is listed as 5.2?

Better off spending a bit more and buyin Yamaha, Sony is ok, but after haveing both a 6.2 channel sony and then moving to a Yamaha, the sony shows how low sound quality really gets

    • Agree completely. Sony receivers often have high THD's. It's really not that hard to quantitatively compare sound systems if the specs are published.

    • Agreed. For music quality makes a huge difference but I found the Yamaha amps/equipment to be much less straightforward to set up and use than the more consumer-oriented brands (e.g. Sony, Samsung, etc).

For a lot of people who just want it to hear loud explosions in movies, I think the Sony system might be a good fit with it's ease of use/simplicity.

  • How does it compare to a very old Phillips DFR 1600, worth the upgrade?
