'Using one bucket and a sponge to wash your car you might as well grab a handful of rocks and throw them over your car'.

That's what a salesperson at Supercheap told me. He used to be a detailer.

at least rinse/hose the sponge out regularly if you have to use one

        • +1 after every panel before returning back to the rinse bucket

Probably not a successful one if he's now selling buckets and sponges at Supercheap Auto….

        • Sucessful and good at what you do are two different things.

So many bad detailers are but they get business as their customers are uneducated.

Most people only care about the cost. A good detailer will educate their customers on their products, methods and how to maintain their paint

        • you don't know his circumstances; he could have lost his job due to the business going bust.

nevertheless, his advice is sound as most people have no clue when it comes to car washing e.g. i have seen 3 people this week washing their cars out in the afternoon sun.

Its best to use the 2 bucket wash method. 1 wash bucket and another rinse. A 3rd bucket for wheels is also highly recommended.

Keep in mind they're many other safe wash methods including l bucket. For those who want to learn proper techniques check out some helpful forums like Detailing Paradise (Aus) and Autogeek (US). Avoid youtube. Too many cowboys giving tutorials which make me cringe.

Btw ditch the sponge. Its one of the worse wash mediums ever. Even supercheap have better options than sponges.

From what I've seen, I quite like AMMO NYC and I'd hope the Chemical Guys channel know what they're doing.

        • Larry from AMMO is brillant. Watch him and you will learn lots. I really like his videos

The chemical guys videos are a little hit and miss. Techniques are generally good. Its probably more their overrated product descriptions that turn me off.
