  • How's the quality of Air Asia business class? Is it any good or better than the economy class of Garuda or Qantas?

    • The seats are very good for the price. Service/inclusions is not the same as a full-service airline business class, similar to economy in that regard. Seats are FAR better than economy class on Garuda or Qantas or any other airline.

Keep in mind that you can upgrade to business on a stand-by basis after you book an economy ticket. It costs about $140 per flight from memory and I have got the upgrade every time I tried (4 out of 4).

      • Is this the 'optiontown' thing or something else? How do you request for business on stand-by? If you don't get it, do you get refunded the $140?

Yes its optiontown and yes you get a refund if you don't get it.

Let me clarify once again, Air Asia does not do business class, it only has premium economy and economy.

      • What does it call? How do i do that?call them?

Guys, feel free to correct/downvote this post if I'm mistaken.

The last time I booked a flight with AirAsia, I was a later sent an email (I think it came a day or two after I booked) inviting me to take part in an Upgrade Travel Option (UTO). This was run by www.optiontown.com which partners up with AirAsia. You pay a small fee to sign up (non-refundable, I think it was only a few bucks). Then you can choose to be upgraded to Premium or to have 2 empty seats next to you. Cost of each option depends on your flight and which option you choose.

You may get upgraded or you may not. If you don't, they refund your option fee. If you choose the Premium seat option and you don't get it, they will try to give you the 2 empty seats next to you option (then you only get a partial refund). If that is not available, then they give you a full refund.

        • That's pretty much how it works. You can also choose only the upgrade to Premium which means you get a full refund if it's not available, bypassing the 2 empty seats option.

        • Also note that they don't tell you if you have been successfully upgraded until 3 days before, or 4 hours up till your flight.
I've had great success rate with UTo (Upgrade Travel option), but not 100% as donga100.
If you get UTo'd, 25kg checkin baggage and meals are complimentary. It was also cool to get priority checkin and boarding.
When I book my ticket, I don't add baggage or meals until the last minute in case I get UTo'd.
You can still purchase baggage allowance up to 4 hours before your flight and Pre-book your meal up to 24 hours before your flight.

    They don't offer business class.

They offer premium economy with flat beds (that don't go all the way down so it feels like ur sliding off the bed).

I just checked the price of a few flights that i had booked a few weeks ago and it seems like their mobile web sale prices are much better than todays sale. They literally jacked the price up on some legs 25% and discounted it 20%!

I was checking the prices just few days ago, price seem to be MORE expensive now……even with the 20% off!

Prices are much expensive than yesterday … no sales at all.

  • This deal was better, glad I booked then.. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/124118

    • the one you booked was like half a year later……
people tend to book ticket closer to travel date (like few weeks away)

but I agreed, the current 20% off deal is a ripped off, it's more expensive than yesterday! :-(

I checked yesterday for flight from Perth to Bali, 4 people with 1 kids were $1090, but now it shows $1690 cheapest. $600 more on this 20% sales.
