Plex for iOS Price Drop (From $4.99 to $1.99)

160

Plex has come down in price again for iOS.

With Plex, you can stream your music, videos and photos from your home computers running Plex Media Server (available from http://www.plexapp.com/) and access content from a wide range of channels. Channels are available for apps like Aperture, iTunes and iPhoto, or online services like YouTube, Vimeo and Revision3. There's also a remote control feature for Plex Media Center.

Additionally, you can sign up for the myPlex service, which lets you connect to servers shared with you by your friends, queue videos from your web browser to watch later, and connect to your Plex Media Server at home wherever you are in the world via Wi-Fi or a celluar connection, with no configuration necessary!

Plex Media Server streams your media directly from your computer, so there's no need to convert before viewing. Plex is smart, too - if your media isn't already in a format your device can play, it'll convert it on-the-fly.

The price reduction happens on a regular basis according to Appshopper
I have it and am very happy with it's performance for my iP5 and iPad mini.
Unsure of expiry date so get it while you can!
Shameless Cut and paste from the Previous OZB Plex listing.
A good deal if you have plex pass.

  • Can't you do the same, for free, with VLC for ios?

No. Plex is great for streaming to not just your iPhones / android etc devices but to your smart TV as well as over 3G/4G.

Edit: forgot to mention that Plex is an awesome app and this is well worth the price.

      • Absolutely right. I have an appleTV with plex on board, so I watch on the TV, but can pick up where i left off, then, on ipad or iphone. Brilliant app.

        • except for me it won't see mp4 videos. Apart from that, Plex is awesome.

        • Same here, appleTV3 and plex is brilliant. But I still struggle to share my server remotely other than that very happy with plex.

        • Weird. I can see my mp4 files on my smartTV (2010 Samsung TV with Plex app). What situation is it that you cannot see MP4 files?

        • Plex just won't see them at all unless I put them in "Home Movies"

        • I think you need to use their naming convention to name your movies.
btw it is free for Nokia Lumia W phones.

        • oh, ok. Do you know what their naming conventions are?

        • @jad & @ddhytz. Awesome Sauce, that worked. Cheers!

    Seriously awesome app…

This is actually why i have an ipad, it might as well be a plexpad!

  • I bought it the last time it was on sale. I think it's great. The latest use I have found for it is that I use it with my Airplay enabled Sony receiver (STR-DN1040) to push music to my receiver from Plex instead of the somewhat dinky Sony iOS app. Works a treat! Obviously, you could do the same with an Apple TV or other hardware that supports AirPlay. I already had Plex Server installed because I use Plex on my HTPC in the lounge as well, so it was a no brainer.

  • Also good to note, if you sign up for a Plex Pass subscription, you can then sync media to your device for offline viewing :) Very handy for flights, public transport, etc. or anytime away from your server.
