  • Seems legit.

From what ive heard this is meant to be one of the best budget phones currently.

Still lacks an SD card slot though, and remember not all 8GB is usable — some of it is taken by system partition and a small fraction of it is only accessible to the user as storage space for media.

I guess Google wants you to utilize their Google Play Music and Picasa cloud services, even though our data plans are expensive.

      • Still has an additional 50gb cloud storage though… (65 total) but I'm not a big fan of cloud seeing as you need data to access it…wish they were selling the 16gb version, told my daughter I'd get her one just this morning.

Or you can buy from JBHiFi using the receipt from previous post (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/131113#comment-1809296) . I got it for $219. Really nice phone.

    • I only managed to talk JB HiFi (Eastland, Vic) down to $225 :-(

JB HiFi in Elizabeth St in the city wouldn't budge on price at all.

Hand in your badge on the way out mate.

      • Eh, same here - same location as well. :)

On the positive side, I paid for half of it with an ACER cashback card from purchasing a laptop from the same shop…. lol

I got the mobile for $219 by just mentioning the price match on the receipt. The staff did not even saw receipt properly on mobile. I was disappointed that I could have done better, may be $210-$215.

Have been looking at this smartie for while. Agree this low/mid range unit has had great reviews. With only 8g and no expansion, perhaps the 16g model may be a better option. Currently Amazon UK selling the 16g version for around A$265 including delivery and estimated exchange rate. Unsure why the price is cheaper upon checkout but not complaining:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Moto-16GB-Sim-Free-Smartphone/dp/B00…

Amazon US cheaper but unfortunately they don't ship it to Aust.

    • +3

Cheaper as Amazon deduct the VAT at checkout

    • 8GB model showing £107.50 (or AUD196) at checkout. Tempted…

    • +4

Wow, if that counts as "low to mid" now, a high end phone must make my coffee.

      • I know, I was very impressed by the specs.

        720p blink
        Retina-level PPI blink

& Usual expected specifications like Quad-core and a decent GPU.
The only thing holding it back is 1GB RAM. Otherwise it would be mid-range++!

GSMArena suggests 50GB Google Drive storage too, is that correct?

        • Also, Kit Kat for the Moto G is released in Asia and we are supposed to be next but talk is the Dual Sim release might be held up.

  • If you buy from Amazon you don't get a dual sim phone. You can get a dual sim model, but it costs more.

  • +1

Grey import so it doesn't have a warranty from Motorola.

The Australian delivered Moto G's are XT1033 (dual SIM).

Although it might not bother some people.

Purchased from JB last week for $217. Supper happy with the purchase. I don't really use my phone as a music player or download that many apps, so the 8gb doesn't really bother me.

    • Could you please post your receipt? A friend of mine wants to buy this from JB HiFi.

      • Check stock levels before anything else. I spoke to one store and they had been selling out faster than they could stock them, I was only lucky to get in as a shipment arrived.

They are also ordering in rather small - 10 units for each store I spoke to.

For a little bit cheaper you could get Kogan Agora HD.
5" screen, quad core, dual sim AND MicroSD card slot.

    • +8

Which in turn is an unknown brand China-phone, meaning very little after market support, besides Kogan. Odds of finding fitting accessories - slim to none. Odds of custom ROMs - same again.

I'll take the Moto G for a couple bucks more, thanks Larry.

    • China phones would be cheaper but much less support, I'm all for china phones and I own one, but if theyre this close of a price (20$ ish). I'm not sure it's worth it, Moto G will probably have roms for a much longer time. Most of these phones are unlikely to get an upgrade from 4.2.x.

      edit: beaten lol

    • Reason I'm holding off buying China until toward mid-year is availability.android kk.
Downside to Goole as I've learned is a roughly 1-year lag.

      • If anything I'd wait a bit longer for this - http://www.gizchina.com/2014/02/11/official-mediatek-announc…
Finally a chinese chipset with LTE, also performance should theoretically be comparable or better to Galaxy S4 (Cortex A17 x4 + Cortex A7 x4 vs Cortex A15x4 + Cortex A7x4 and PowerVR SGX 6__? vs SGX544MP3)

      • Yes, I'll be keeping true to that for the hardware aspect of things. —Once I buy a phone, it doesn't become obsolete for a few years. +wolfson.hub; also important.

        _
Still so many of the western influenced variety omit dual sim, which makes those gooses ineligible for my attention.

Kogan phones = rebadged Micromax (indian company).

  • hi guys,
We have now sold out of the offer.
Can someone help us make it expired?

    Thank you for your support
