HALF PRICE Kraft Peanut Butter 780g $3.99 at Coles (Save $4.00) - Starts 19/02

590

Available in crunchy or smooth varieties.

Wiki: Peanut butter is a food paste made primarily from ground dry roasted peanut, actually a legume and not a nut, and is popular in North America, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Australia and parts of Asia, particularly the Philippines and Indonesia. It is mainly used as a sandwich spread, sometimes in combination with other spreads such as jam, chocolate (in various forms), vegetables or cheese. The United States is a leading exporter of peanut butter.

Both crunchy/chunky and smooth peanut butter are good sources of unsaturated fats. However, crunchy/chunky peanut butter has slightly more unsaturated and less saturated fat than smooth. Smooth peanut butter doesn't have as much fiber in it as crunchy/chunky.

For people with a peanut allergy, peanut butter can cause severe reactions, including anaphylactic shock, which can lead to death if not treated immediately. This has led to its being banned in some schools.

A slang term for peanut butter in World War II was "monkey butter". In the Netherlands, peanut butter is called pindakaas (peanut cheese) rather than pindaboter (peanut butter) because the word butter is only supposed to be used with products that contain actual butter. In Africa, it is called Dakatine, from Dakar Tartine, the most famous brand of peanut butter in Africa.

Hi Tal_Shiar. You seem to be associated with both major supermarkets.

      • I work for woollies (have never hidden that) I often find myself casting a vote without realising it's from woolworths , but I don't work for Coles. The associated tag has been doing just fine for me until today… Sorry to get off topic

        • -3

So why have you tagged yourself associated in this Coles thread?

        • +1

It's because you put woolworths.com.au as the store domain in the deal.

          "I am associated with Woolworths"

I have fixed it up to coles.com.au now :)

        • Cheers.

I used to get this until i tried the Costco 1.3kg Peanut butter tub for $7.50

American peanut butter is YUM .. i have spare 2 at home.

If you have a costco membership, i recommend it over this

    • Damn, that's better value than the Aldi one!!! I've been hooked on that since it first became available, wouldn't touch anything else!!! (Unless of course I could get some Reese's….but my local US speciality store charges about $8 for a 500g jar, ouch!)
I've gotta get my Costco membership!!!!
PS Is the Costco PB made with molasses too?

Damn, that's better value than the Aldi one!!! I've been hooked on that since it first became available,

Yes me too. My Costco membership was mainly for this and some other items (1kg Swiss cheese & fish) after i used my brothers membership card for the Amex $60 costco promo.

PS Is the Costco PB made with molasses too?

Not sure. But the thing i like about Costco PB is that every serving (1 tablespoon) has 7 grams of protein. Helps really well with my bulking cycles.

I also add a tablespoon with my protein shake for flavor and to increase protein content

Unless of course I could get some Reese's

Costco has Reese's, i remember seeing it last week. However cant recall how much the large one is

      • How does American peanut butter differ from Australian? I've only tried one brand and it seems less sweet?

        • Taste is different. Id guess its the quality of peanuts they use.

        • +1

I find the Reeces peanut butter cups too salty. Havent tried the peanut butter itself though.

        • +2

          i prefer the oz ones

        • normally i think american peanut butter uses molasses - this gives it a more sticky consistency vs australian ones.

I think this kraft aussie one usually has more of a peanut taste (esp if you get the no added sugar one)

        • +1

Most Australian peanut butters use crappy imported peanuts. This includes Kraft and Sanitarium. It's worth looking at labels to figure out which brands use Australian peanuts. I think Coles Brand is Australian, surprisingly, as are a lot of the smaller brands.

American peanut butter will give you diabetes. It should be considered a confection rather than a breakfast food. Reese's especially.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure most people have no idea what peanut butter is. ; )

Question: How do people eat the Peanut Butter with added sugar, like this craft one? Its so foul! I can only eat no-sugar added peanut butter, and its much healthier since it doesnt have the pointless added sugar in it.

    • I'd be careful with that stone - arsenic is more dangerous than sugar, and peanuts are a large source of it! :D

      • Damn, if you say so :p

    • +3

It's almost like people have different tastes and enjoy different foods? How unusual! Oh how beautiful the world looks up here on our high horses!

      • but but… its adding sugar just for the sake of adding sugar?! Go to the supermarket, and check all the peanut butters. If your lucky they mite stock Santariums no added sugar one, but every other single peanut butter has sugar added. Its weird how addicted people are to sugar :(

its not necessarily that they enjoy it, its simply they have been acclimatized to sugar and salt being added to every single processed food they eat

My parents a few years ago bought that sugar-free peanut butter and it tasted like ass.

        • +4

          and it tasted like ass.

& When have u tasted ass before ?

        • I was going to ask too, but wasn't sure if I wanted to know the answer…
Btw, which definition of "ass"? ;-)
According to Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ass Ass may refer to:
          * Ass people (Jasses, Ossetians and Burtasses), selfname of Alans (Scytho-Sarmatian tribes)
          * Asinus, a subgenus of Equus that includes the donkey and other asses
          -Donkey, Equus africanus asinus
-By extension, an insult meaning idiot
          * North American English informal term for buttocks
          * áss, one of the Æsir in Norse mythology
          * Ass (album), by Badfinger
          * In abstract algebra, Ass(M) denotes the collection of all associated primes of a module M
          * AsS, the basic chemical formula for arsenic sulfide

        • arse… *shakes head

        • tastes like paste made of peanuts… who would of known lol

    • I heard the kraft no added salt also has no added sugar, I wouldn't say it tastes better though and I don't have a sweet tooth

      • interesting, havnt seen that in a store yet :O

  • I don't eat peanut butter any more, but this may be be a good read for someone …

    • I wasn't aware that we'd had a salmonella incident in Australia relating to peanut butter. They have happened with disturbing regularity in the U.S.

In the U.S, if a deadly strain of E.coli contamination in beef, tomatoes or cucumbers doesn't get you, the salmonella in your peanut butter just might!

another useless fact is that in WA, it is commonly known as peanut paste as it isn't a butter, it's a paste :)

    • I'd call peanut butter "peanut paste" if it meant I could drink spearmint milk!

    • Queensland too.

  • thank you for clarifying that it is a legume. not a nut. I have to keep explaining. calling it a nut does not mean it is.

    • +1

Yeah, you're right but it's a hopeless campaign, you'll have to also go after coconut, metal nuts, and that geologic feature near Stanley, TAS. Nut has come to mean lots of things. Save your energy for other battles.

  • Btw, how do people feel about Kraft Whipped Peanut Butter when compared with the normal Smooth and Crunchy varieties?

    • I like it. It's not as thick on the palate, but still has a rich peanutty taste. I prefer it over plain smooth PB, but personally my favourite is crunchy, which the whipped still can't quite beat…

I like the macro organic one from woo lies. ..

  • +1 for the education.
