Tracking Telstra Employees, Friends and Family Deal

MOD: This thread is for discussing / tracking the offer if you managed to get the Telstra's iPhone deal (for their employees or family/friends of employees). Please do not link to Telstra's internal offer, which they have requested us to remove.

Just drop a comment if you got this deal today and (hopefully) receive your iPhone.

  • was it pulled?

  • I only have the order confirmation. It is still pending approval.

    • Me too. I actually am not a friend, family or employee. If anyone is willing to be one of those to help out a beloved panda I would be forever in your debt.

      Regards
      The Purple Panda

    • Applied one day at ~15:30, got email with tracking number at 5PM the day after. No call from Telstra, but I already have one of these plans (and a telstra account), so I guess no further verification was required for me.

Other people on Whirlpool have confirmed yesterday's orders are processing too.

      • Applied 13:33 today and have only received confirmation email.

        • Not previous Telstra customer
        • Porting number in from another carrier
        • Not eligible for offer
        • Wait till ~5PM tomorrow and hopefully you'll have a tracking number if all goes well :)

@Mods, did Telstra request you remove it because it was a day early? If so, can you re-publish it? It's live again. There's many useful comments in there, like the last deals from 3 years 8 months ago - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27055.

@Telstra if you're reading this, I wouldn't be a Telstra customer if it weren't for offers like this.

    WP thread- http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2224204

    • Telstra requested removal due to the offer being for internal use only (e.g. not for the public).

      • I wonder why it is still on whirlpool?

        • because F&F is now active I'd guess, for those eligible

          "TELSTRA FRIENDS AND FAMILY OFFER
          Welcome

We have great news. As a close friend or family member of a Telstra employee we have an exclusive offer just for you; the chance to get an iPhone 5 at an unbelievably low price on the $39 Staff Mobile Cap Plan.

To make sure more family and friends of Telstra can take advantage of this exclusive offer, there's a limit of one iPhone 5 on the $39 Staff Mobile Cap Plan per service.

But hurry, only available while stocks last.
          Great Plan features

With a $15 monthly handset repayment discount on the cost of your iPhone 5, the $39 Staff Mobile Cap Plan is a great deal.

To get this same discount on our in-market plans, you'd need to commit to our $80 Every Day Connect plan.

The $39 Staff Mobile Cap Plan also comes with generous allowances. Plus there's the flexibility to pay as little as $10 per month (plus the cost of your iPhone 5) if you only use $10 worth of your included allowance.

If you need more data, there are plenty of options. Monthly data packs start from $5 extra per month for an additional 250MB up to $60 for 8GB.

Remember, you can only sign up to the $39 Staff Mobile Cap Plan if you take up the iPhone 5, and it's only while stocks last.

Read the terms and conditions below to learn more."

wonder if it was Gerd aka Executive Director, Telstra Digital as per Order Confirmation? :)

  • I signed up in good faith yesterday, actually having a legit friend who works in Telstra. I'll be sorely disappointed if my order gets pulled but I haven't heard anything at all since yesterday.

    • If they were not honouring the early orders I'd imagine all those 16GB handsets would be up for grabs again, which they aren't.

      • They wouldn't be, until/unless somebody actually starts cancelling the orders.

        • It's not your fault the site went live earlier than it should have

  • I have a family member that works for sensis. Does anyone know if I would be eligible for this offer?

    • +1

      To be eligible for:
      • the Telstra $39 Staff Mobile Cap Plan, you must satisfy us that you
are a permanent or fixed term employee of Telstra (including an
employee of a Telstra 100% wholly owned subsidiary)
      .

      I should think so.

      • +1

        Only 30% owned by telstra

        • +1

Has that deal completed yet? Maybe they are still 100%

  • Anyone tried to track their order? I tried using the Telstra 24/7 and the rep couldn't find the order!

    • The 24x7 reps aren't trained on staff offers/plans.

We'll likely a) get a phone call verifying our order (and possibly staff member friend) and b) then they'll send out the phone.

      • Hope it just gets approved and they send out phone.

      • Would you like to be my friend?

        • I'll be your friend, but I'm not staff. I just happen to know about this plan because I've been on it since the last offer 3y8m ago.

        • Lukian has your number been ported?

If so, how does it happen?

        • I didn't port my number, as this is a new/second service. I imagine that happens afterwards.

    • I called up and the lady said it is still in progress and would take 5-7 working days at max for approval. Very strange turn around time for Telstra. Thought it would be quicker.

      • We just solely depleted their remaining stock of iPhone 5 (At least the 16GB model, whirlpool and other sites are hopefully working on the larger capacities!). You really think that's a long processing time?

  • Got confirmation email yesterday after 4pm… nothing further yet. Am currently a Telstra customer on another plan.

  • Wow, they are all out of 16gb Iphone 5! BOOOOOO!

    • 16GB hardly fits my cat pictures.. go for the 64GB

  • Well I've ordered, we'll see what happens.

    • Received today, no problems with order.

  • so how much hand set repayment per month?

    • +1

      16GB is $10 x 24 months ($240)
      32GB is $15 x 24 months ($360)
      64GB is $20 x 24 months ($480)

      Plan is:
Less than $10 of standard calls etc: $10
Between $10 and $39 of standard calls etc: Cost
Between $39 and $400 of standard calls etc: $39
Over $400 of standard calls etc: $39 + cost in excess of $400

      My iPhone 5 64GB shipped yesterday. :-)

      • It seems it is also 1GB of data included in the $10 minimum spend. Excess data charged at 2c/MB which also comes out of your $39 cap (under the previous F&F this was $2/MB).

        • 10c/MB, not sure where you get 2c from.

The T&C PDF hasn't been fully updated to reflect the change from $2/MB to 10c/MB yet.

        • Still no news about my oder Lukian =(

        • It's not 5PM yet :p

        • I talked to online sales and they explained Excess data charged at 10c/MB and NOT comes out of $39 cap.

        • Online sales (Telstra 24x7 chat) aren't educated about the staff plans.

      • It looks more like a FIXED cost of $49 per month for the 16GB iPhone over 24 months which is $1176 but if you exceed the $39 cap, then you pay the excess charges. I don't think you understand how it works.

If you take a look at the details, it says; $54.00 per month ($1296 min. cost over 24 months)

And in your case, because you chose the 64GB, its $59.00 per month ($1416 min. cost over 24 months)

        • not really. I talked to telstra online sales. He said if you use
          0-$10 you pay $10 + handset repayment
$10-$39 you pay actual cost + handset repayment
          $39-$400 you pay $39 + handset repayment
          $400+ you pay $39 + actual cost over $400 + handset repayment

This is also comfirmed by others who has this contracts over serveral years

        • No, the minimum cost is $10/month + $10/month repayments for 16GB.
          $15/month repayments for 32GB.
          $20/month repayments for 64GB.

If you use $10 or less of calls, you pay $10. If you use between $10 and $39, you pay that. If you use between $39 and $400, you pay $39.

Also, you can use 1GB of data and still only pay the minimum of $10.

Source: I have been on this plan for more than 3 years now.

        • Well maybe your right but it says minimum cost on the website.

        • -1

          I'll give you a hint:

          $10/month + $15/month for 32GB.
          Sell 32GB for $480 + delivery = $20/month.
You now pay equivalent of $5/month for 1GB of internet.
Use VoIP on your mobile phone for calls (almost free, calls are dirt cheap untimed).

-> less than $10/month for all my calls + 1GB data using Telstra 4G.

Edit: The minimum cost on website is because the law requires they state a single minimum price. They are not allowed to quote the minimum price of the 24 month contract involving the $10 as it would be misleading due to the fact it is a $39 cap and the intended allowance is $400 for $39.

        • yes. min cost is $10 if you click the detail tab.

        • Care to disclose/suggest VOIP provider esp. for calls to Aussie Mobiles?

        • +2

Plenty of discounted ones on Whirlpool for ozbargainers like us. Faktortel is good, so is Telecube. Cheap with $0 min spend and great quality. They both support every codec you'd ever want.

        • Thanks.

Both Mobile rates are dearer than Pennytel Free Access though.

      • Hi,

Are there prices ($20 x 24 months for the 64GB) inclusive of the $15 MRO bonus or is that already accounted for (included) in the $20 x 24 months?

        Thanks
        Andrew

  • Ordered yesterday 1pm and have received email indicating Email Bill Activation. I know someone ordered earlier has received the handset.

    • I've just received the Email Bill Activation as well. Hope the phone ships soon =D

    • I ordered before you and have got no news! Are you an existing Telstra customer?

      • Yeah, same. Haven't heard anything since order confirmation.

        • Just received my online bill notification

        • Nothing for me still. Just wondering if that's because I ordered a white iPhone 16GB and they don't have it in stock.

    • Just receive the tracking for the phone. Didnt get a call from Telstra. I am still on the original F&F plan since 2010, porting a number in.

  • Make sure you are personally available for delivery (they won't allow housemates to sign!) otherwise your delivery will be held at your local post office.

  • Each step has taken 24 hours for me so far.

Ordered Tuesday, 24 hours later online bill notification, then just now "It’s on its way
We've processed your order and it will be arriving soon."

    • Me too, tracking number doesn't work yet. Where does it ship from?

      • Mine says "Prestons CLOC", so NSW

  • Anyone have their number ported yet?

  • and if you did miss out and you've been a previous employee of Telstra you can still get this:

Good news for those people who've taken up the offer.

Leaked Telstra plans (http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/02/new-telstra-plans-the-full…) mean that from 4 March, you can add a $5 250MB data pack and get up to 14.6GB data for $44.

This is because the excess data rate is 3c/MB and the data use comes out of the $400 cap credit.

    • you sure it comes out of the $400 cap credit?

        • This hasn't been confirmed with the new iteration of this plan yet - The T&C is outdated because excess data is listed as $2/MB.

There's apparently a new T&C dated ~August 2013, but afaik, excess data (for me) was still inside the cap as of December.

    • haven't they already been available for a while?

      http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/data…

      • Yes, but the excess data rate is 10c/MB, not 3c/MB…

        • ahh - thanks :)

        • Those terms and conditions aren't correct you get 1gb included and if you go over the 1gb you get charged 10c per mb it doesn't come out of the $400 cap

        • The logic is you add the new $5 data back and this reduces the excess charge to 3 cent.

Not sure why it comes out of the cap though

        • @larrcoult1234 In most Telstra caps, this is the case. But not the Staff cap…

        • Same case, based on my personal experience. So enjoy cheap data guys…

        • +1

hey cuek, thanks for putting the Telstra offer up, and sticking around to answer questions the other day!

        • +1

you welcome mate.. got your new phone yet?

        • Sure did & loving it, because of this deal I could afford one.

  • Can you port your number?

    • Yes, it's one of the options when you sign up

  • Forgive me if I am incorrect, but I think that some of you may have the pricing wrong above.

Specifically, this looks wrong (from xsacha):
"No, the minimum cost is $10/month + $10/month repayments for 16GB.
    $15/month repayments for 32GB.
    $20/month repayments for 64GB."

From looking at the F&F plan details, you get $15 per month credit towards mobile handset repayments ("MRO Bonus Credit" in the plan details).

So if the 32GB iPhone is $54 per month repayments as per the F&F site, you get a discount on that… see my example below:

    Per month your minimum is:
    $10 (for the plan) + $54 (handset) - $15 (MRO Bonus Credit) = $49 per month minimum.

If you use your Cap over the $40, it becomes:
    $39 (for the plan) + $54 (handset) - $15 (MRO Bonus Credit) = $78 per month minimum.

I am still on the original F&F plan as well, and this was the same as what was explained to me when I initially signed up (without purchasing a handset). I could be wrong, but this is my understanding.

    • I prey to god you are wrong!

      • That being said
        $54 = $39 cap (10 min spend) + 30 phone repayment (32gb = 720 over 2 years) - 15 MRO bonus

      • And also, if you are paying $54 a month for the handset, Telstra are charging you 24x54 = $1296 for the phone 5!

        • Good point.. Price wise it makes more sense that the $54 includes the plan.. Hope I am wrong for everyone's sake!

        • You are wrong, this (the min cost of $10+$15) has been confirmed on twitter (and other ways) with educated Telstra reps.

        • Ok, my bad. Apologies all.

  • Order cancelled after being in pending state for 3 days. White iPhone 5 16GB not in stock :/

    • Quick re-order the 32gb!

      • Thought it would make a good birthday pressie for the mrs. not sure if 32GB will arrive in time.

        • +1

I am an existing Telstra pre-paid customer and mine arrived within 48 hours of placing the order, so you might make it if you have 2 days to go.

        • Same for me (existing customer with 'myaccount').

  • Its the iPhone 5S right, just to confirm, not the iPhone 5.

    • +2

      It's the 5, NOT the 5S. That's why it's cheap.

  • I haven't been with Telstra before. I called up to get my service activated and my number ported. The guy on the phone wasn't much help kept asking if I was a business customer.

Anyone know when you get your bill and stuff like that? Logged into my account on Telstra's website and it's still blank

    • In ~30 days, it's a post-paid account.

      • I thought they billed you a month in advance

        • +1

          Pre = Before
          Post = After
