  • Very cheap!!

  • Great price~

  • to bad you cant move in japan at the moment, they are having some really bad snow storms at the moment, my mates loving the snow over there but

    • +13

I doubt there will be much snow in May - July

      • It could possibly be stinking hot instead..,.

  • +1

Great price! Would love to go back for a third time. Loved the first two!

  • Cheap airfares but how cheap is the accommodation in Japan?

    • +5

As cheap as you want it to be.

    • +12

I've slept in internet cafes for about $12 a night. Includes free soft drinks/tea, shower, ps3, pc and a futon to sleep on. 3 star hotels can be had for under $100/night in most places too.

      • +3

$100 a night is even on the 'upper' end. Easily find older 2-3 star (but decent) places for $50-60 in more central-ish Tokyo.

    • +1

A true ozbargainer would couchsurf for free :P

      • I promote couchsurfing but do be careful though, some not so good ones could rip you off badly and charge you extra for every little thing used in their house.

        • How does couchsurfing compare to hostels?

      • +6

A true ozbargainer would save the money - and instead read all about it online on Lonely Planet, browse the beautiful photos on National Geographic, explore satelite view on Google Earth, and hear about the experiences on Tripadvisor.

Wait, what am I saying?? :D

here's your chance to try out a capsule hotel! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsule_hotel

I tried one of those before and was pleasantly surprised. I'm 187cm tall and didn't have any trouble fitting inside.

      • +1

from the wiki page, some even offer tv, a console & wifi. that covers about everything a person would most likely need.

        • +2

Yep, mine had a tv and wifi. Also public bathing and sauna facilities. The locals mainly use these as a place to crash after a night on the town, especially if they miss the last train home. Wish we had something similar in Aus. :(

        • +2

Could you imagine the state they would be in if we had such facilities here.

Piss and shit would be everywhere.

        • Yeah, it's kind of weird but in Japan lots of people get drunk yet they don't feel the need to bash others, deface property or defecate/urinate in public. As I mentioned here you can also find many places with all-you-can-drink alcohol packages.

        • I used spews on Zebra crossings as a reference to guide me home when I was semi-lost in Tokyo once.

  • What dates did you you enter for the $428 fare?

    • 17 February 2014 - 2 March 2014 Travel Period : 1 May 2014 - 31 July 2014 Travel Notes- Advanced booking required.

    • +1

I think it was out on the 1st May and return on 30th July or something close to that. I usually start my searches for these deals at the ends of the travel periods so that it's easier to navigate the booking engine. I'm sure other dates will be available too, I just didn't search.

      • Thanks.

Just noticed the 1 month fare view option.

  • +2

Great prices, just be aware that the flights are not direct - they go via Kuala Lumpur.

    • How long is the stopover?

        • +1

What a stupid comment… you want to pay extra $500 to avoid a few hours of inconvenience? That's over $1000 extra for 2 people that can pay for all accomodation and meals. If you have so much spare $ then why go to OzB?

The new LCCT is due to open May 2, 2014.
(But no-one is holding their breath).

        • The current LCCT isn't too bad. Just the toilets are super dirty.

        • Since I'm cheap I've only ever seen LCCT. I suppose ignorance can be a good thing - I've long forgotten what it's like to have a TV in front of me and be served cookies with tea.

      • Might vary but for the dates I tried it was 4 hours on the way over and 8 hours on the way back.

      • Usually around 7 or 8 hours.
Ive only travelled once to Japan via AirAsia return so technically only twice in LCCT.

        • haha great, downvoted to oblivion for having common sense.

if you are flying to a country, if you're only saving a hundred or so dollars, you wouldn't fly 8 hours the wrong direction then sit in the shit LCCT for 8 hours waiting for a flight back the way you were 8 hours.

if you wanna do it, great. do it. you'll only do it once.

        • May be your common sense is a bit different others judging from these many positive votes for this deal and those many negative votes you received.

  • Hi guys, serious question - can you price match with Jetstar? Or is the fact that it's not a direct flight stop the price match from working?

    • Good question but I don't think they'll accept it as it's not the same routing.

      • I probably should have googled it first haha "The comparable fare must be for a one way direct flight on the same route at a comparable time." - I guess this is for others to know xD

Too bad you miss out on Hanami :(

  • Awesome post thanks so much

  • Would love to go at that price but you're missing Spring and I dunno if I could handle another summer.

  • +4

Your train pass is going to cost more than your flights!

  • When I book $1600 (2adult.2kids) it adds in $400 for baggage. ie now $2000
    We travel light…
Is there a way to avoid paying for this extra.

    • Isn't there an option to not have baggage?

When I did HND-KUL-PER, I was able to select how much weight I wanted per person.

      • +1

Yes turns out I get the chance to opt out on a per person
basis after a couple more pages of typing details.

$1616 family return to Japan. Pretty good price.

  • Damn, that's a nice price.

  • Great price, but I don't know if I could deal with the humid summers in Tokyo, Kyushu etc.

  • -1

Man I'd love to go to the sukiyabashi jiro someday…anyone ever try it?

  • -1

I hope there are still seats left by the time I can confirm all the details. Japan trip number 11 coming up.

  • hey all

never been to japan, always wanted go. which city would be the recommendation, and is it easy to get from these places to tokyo which we would have to go to? plan a 8-10 day trip - thanks!

    • I've use Frommers to plan my trips to Japan - highly recommend getting a hard copy.

      • Kyoto is a must , you can spend at least 3-4 days there to get a good run

  • oh well nevermind - booked a trip to nagoya, cheaper - then plan to bullet train to tokyo. can't wait!

    • +1

Nagoya is not bad for a couple of days either. At least visit Nagoya Castle. You are only an hour train ride from Kyoto too. Also, if you go to Tokyo on Shinkansen you will pass through Shizuoka so you could stop for a trip to Mt Fuji or if you are lucky you might get a nice view of it out the window if you ask for a seat on the left side of the train.

      • fantastic - that's great advice - cheers for that! yes definitely plan to go to kyoto. like the idea of stopping to see mt fuji, that sounds like a plan we need to make.

        • Fuji like the opera house is only pretty from afar

when yo uget up close its pretty ordinary

        • There is plenty of nice scenery around Mt Fuji even if you don't want to climb it. There is the Suicide Forest for example.

        • +2

Na that place is pretty dead.

Anyone got any flying experience with AirAsia? A quick Google of "Air Asia Review" shows some pretty tremendous experiences; lost/wet luggage, extra costs for food and entertainment etc..

    • +1

Ive had no problem. Average service at around half the price of non budget airlines. My luggage was not lost, my flights were not delayed. The food looked yuck so I bought chips and peanuts onboard for a couple dollars. The inflight entertainment was an iPad with movies loaded on so I brought my own entertainment.

  • Malaysia also on sale,

booked our flights for $350 return

  • Just realised, these are no baggage allowance flight, price is ~$200. With baggage is ~$900. If you want to travel with baggage, anyone who's got experience to overcome the baggage issue?

    • its 15AUD for 20kg of luggage, I don't see your point.

      • oh, how do you ask for that?

        • book your flights and it asks you if you want luggage. the 900 dollar flight is the business class option.

you can book without luggage and add it later for 15 dollars if you want.

  • If you are going over in the Winter for skiing and snowboarding, I highly recommend Slowlife Lodge in Niseko and Lodge Nagano in NozawaOnsen. Beautiful Places. Also I've got $800 worth of Yen to sell at market rate if anyone from WA South of the River is going to Japan soon. Save us both losing money on transfer fees. PM me.

  • I'll just leave it here http://www.chinatravel.com.au/hot
not as good as this deal but still worth to consider all inclusive tours. cherry blossom one for 11 days(only 7 in Japan) for 3000 aud is interesing.

    • I think this would be good deal for the intro traveller to Japan and especially those who are concerned re: travelling to a foreign country (i.e. dealing with a different language, etc).
