Coles Peanut Butter Ice Cream 500ml Was $6.51, Now $4.00

770

This ice cream is awesome! It's very hard to have myself controlled to not eat it all at once! $4.00 down from $6.51. Not a very big bargain. But I think it's worth to be posted here considered it tastes sooo amazingly good

saw this at waterford coles yesterday, but bought the maggie beer's ice cream instead. it was on sale for ~$6+

    • +2

The Maggie Beer one is nice but should be renamed, Chocolate with a hint of Peanut Butter.

      Yet to try this.

      • +2

Agreed. The chocolate swirl is quite dark too which may not appeal to many people.

  • +3

This stuff is terrific. On par with Ben & Jerry's I'd say, but far cheaper.

  • +2

I've been waiting for this to go on sale so I can try this, thanks! Although $4 for 500ml is pretty steep

    • +2

It's usually on sale every 2 months

    Throws cape on
    TO THE SUPERMARKET!

  • +3

I've had it - it's ok - not as good as it sounds

    • +1

      good deal though

    • +4

Agreed, I got excited about it being peanut butter… but it pretty much just tastes like peanuts.

      Overrated.

      • +4

it pretty much just tastes like peanuts

That is what peanut butter tastes like.

        • +6

          Peanut butter != peanut taste

This is why there's peanut M&Ms and peanut butter M&Ms.

    • +3

I agree also, I'm a massive peanut butter fan (try and keep me away from Butterfingers!) but this was a bit of a disappointment. It was mostly peanuts on their own, but no actual "butter" (if that even makes sense?). If you love peanuts on their own then you'll probably like this though, and it's definitely a good deal!

  • +4

The pavalova one is pretty good.
When they first came out they were actually priced at $4 standard price then they had a price increase to sucker us all in to thinking its a good deal.

  • -2

This stuff is nasty, texture is all wrong and tastes just as bad!!!

    • Try their cookies and cream icecream, super gritty.

  • When I had it last time it tasted slightly bitter.. I think it might be the peanuts but overall kinda nasty.. not recommended.

  • +1

I haven't tried it, it sounds interesting. But $4 for 500ml? Coles homebrand more expensive than the big (and better) brands? I'd rather a 2 Ltr of Peters or Bulla for $4!

    • +5

This ice cream is amazing, dont listen to all these haterz…If you are a peanut fan, for $4.00 nothing else comes close. This will have a cult following soon enough.

      • Big call…

      • +4

As soon as it gets a cult following they will discontinue it, trust.

        • Or they will repackage it and increase the price… .

  • +7

Tried it and it taste great! Just ignore the negative comments, they always seem to exaggerate how bad it is.

  • +2

Just tried it yesterday for the first time. It taste good but I'm not the biggest fan of peanut butter - each to their own. However there is Lemon Meringue flavour which I personally prefer which is also $4.00.

  • +2

Coles Rum and Rasin is pretty good.

  • +1

I had no idea such flavour existed. I bought one and was amazing (bit expensive though), went back and bought 3 more. Soooo goood.

  • +2

Very nice ice-cream. A lot better than the 1/2 price Sara Lee peanut brittle ice cream. The ice cream is rough and horrible - Coles is smooth and creamy.

    • +1

What's with the Sara Lee? Of all the expensive fancy type ice cream, it seems the worst value to me. Average taste for high price.

  • +3

Wow didnt realise coles had gourmet premium ice cream. Saying that wish it was a different brand. I try to make it a point to neve buy coles or woolies brands as they are taking over the shelves where previously we used to have so much more variety…but i love peanut butter and love it in ice cream :(

    • Coles/Woolies home branded products probably come out of the same factories as some of the branded stuff :P

      • +1

Oh of course it does, its a tender process from what i have been told. The best bidder gets the deal but still more of the profits goes back to coles and woolies and this way they stock less of the other brands or varieties. These days i only see a couple of brands besides the home brand and other woolies/coles brands.

still cheaper to just by 500ml peanut butter whip it up a bit and chuck it in the freezer

    • Tai'shar OzBargain.

      • +1

        I almost can't believe I understand that.

        • +1

          i couldn't until i wikepiadiaficatinised it.

  • +1

just tried it.. it's hella good ;-)

  • +1

Just wondering, does it go well with pickle?

  • -6

Im negging this deal, Ive just tried the 500ml peanut butter ice cream.

After reading all the happy comments here, I found myself in Coles super market, Thinking why not try it.

but even as I was wait to pay, I was looking at the sara lee 1,000ml ice cream, thinking, its 50 cents more for 100% more really good ice cream!

Am I making a mistake buying this 500ml tub, when for $4.49 I can have a sara lee 1,000ml ice cream tub?

It was a mistake, and for anyone wondering, it tastes a lot like the snickers ice cream bars.

You've been a member since 2011, you should know better that this ISN'T a valid reason for a neg.

      Reported.

      • Report lead to no action taken. But this neg doesn't seem valid.

      • Why has this not been revoked? Inconsistency with moderation is really starting to bug me. Why have rules if they are not enforced?

    • Dud neg.

The standard price of icecream is $7 (or, apparently, $4.50 on sale).

It doesn't matter how much icecream is in the container. It will cost $7 (or $4.5) regardless.

You can get a massive bucket of horrible cheap icecream for $7. You can get a thimble-sized cup of exquisite single-origin designer icecream for $7. The price is always the same… the trade-off is between quality and quantity.

Just because you get more for ~the same price, doesn't mean it's a bargain.

In this case, I'd say you did the wrong thing, because peanut butter icecream is a terrible idea in the first place, and anything other than peanut butter icecream would have been a better option.

I mean, FFS, peanut butter is a salty savoury thing to go on sandwiches. Icecream is a sweet dessert. The two should not mix. It's kind of like having salad-flavoured icecream. Or chocolate with tomato sauce. Wine with milk and sugar. Yuck. The whole lot of them are just bad.

Yeah, I know, Americans think peanut butter is a dessert. But Americans are messed up in the head. Don't look to Americans for culinary recommendations.

If you like eating disgusting things, this is a good bargain. It's icecream for much less than the $7 benchmark price. But a bargain price for a bad idea is still a bad idea.

      • @barefoot, Wow that was a long rant to basically say 'everyone should have the exact same tastes as me, otherwise they are messed up in the head'.

Who are you to tell other people what they should enjoy? You say "anything other than peanut butter icecream would have been a better option"…how about turd and ice-cream? Enjoy!

    • Bad move, Sara Lee ice cream is pretty rubbish, for some reason.

So thank you for this post straight off. Saw it on Sunday and went out and bought one, finished it last night and decided I'd go down and buy them all up.

Low and behold only 1 left. Oh man I'm in love, if only they had white chocolate, mix these 2 together and be like Cold Rock yum yum!

  • +1

Just bought a tub last night… And finished it all… Except for one spoonful for my girlfriend.

    Yum!
    Thanks.
