DrivePop - Lifetime Unlimited Cloud Back-up (Individual, Family or Ultimate plans) from $90 USD

30

I signed up to Crashplan a few years ago to a 4 year deal they had running and currently back-up over 400GB to the cloud, but in a few months, I'll have to either continue and start paying them around $70 a year, or move to a new provider.

While investigating, I stumbled across DrivePop, initially interested in their 2014 plans which are being offered at 50% off, however they are only for 1 year.

What is more interesting, is their Lifetime plan for which the link will give access to the following prices :

1 PC : $89.99 (one-time) + $4.99 / year if you don't continue with Briefcase
5 PC (Family) : $119.99 (one-time) + $4.99 / year if you don't continue with Briefcase
Unltd PCs (Ultimate) : $149.99 (one-time) + $4.99 / year if you don't continue with Briefcase

All plans offer :
UNLIMITED Backup Space
FREE Briefcase (SYNC Drive) Service 1 year
Unthrottled Bandwidth
Military Grade AES-256 Encryption
Backup local and external drives. NAS extra.
Stream Your Music and Movies From Your Account
File Versioning (30 Versions)
View File Online/Anywhere
Control Panel & APP Access
Access from any device (iPad, Android, etc.)
30 Day No Hassle Money Back Guarantee

Quite a lot of Q&As in the thread linked - e.g. :
- how they handle external drives
- what the limitations of a family plan are …

  • Unlimited PC's can be open to abuse. I wouldn't mind a one time fee for permanent storage but I would like to know about reliability via reviews and others confidence in this business

  • This reminds me of Zoolz

    • Agree - initially I was considering Zoolz, but the benefit of this is that you don't have to wait to be able to access your files.

  • There is a difference between "backup" and "cloud storage".

  • So the software on zoolz and this look the same so both are resellers for another company? What would that one be?

So it appears all these guys are resellers for live drive as the mobile app on the drive pop website is a live drive app.

  • I have been using the crash plan deal as well but with my qnap nas running the headless qpkg. Does anybody know if a similar capability is available with this offering as I haven't seen anything on the qnap forums. Optimistically hoping some bright spark on here knows more

Careful with this one - read the comments on the lifetime plan page, it will only keep files 30 days if the files go at the source
Ie. If your pc dies you have 30 days to restore the files before the backup is deleted online…
Or if you don't turn your pc on for 30 days you will lose the files online… Or if you back up an ext drive and don't hook it up for 30 days the online backup will be deleted …

Something to be aware of.. May not affect everyone but don't think of this one as a set it and forget it style long term backup in some cases
