As part of their 'customer appreciation' month, EA have released the Shotgun upgrade package for free.
This is along with the Pistol and Grenade upgrades that have already been released.

Yes except this handgun and grenade packs have already been posted on Ozbargain. People should already know about it if they're keeping up with Ozbargain.
I knew about….. However I didn't know DMR's were available at the same time as Handgun's!!!!
I don’t understand why these get so many up votes, it’s like an option patch update. If they appreciate their customers just give it to everyone. Not a fan of offering extra content but making it sound like they are doing us a favour.

Even worse when those who had already purchased the game seem so grateful.
Just because you purchased the game or premium doesnt mean they have to unlock all the weapon progress for you and save you 100s of man hours to unlock
usually you gotta pay $5-15 to do this
It wasnt included as one of the features of premium, so technically they are giving you something for free.
im not a fan of the DLC model, because its a greedy cash grab
but i approve of shortcut kits, because it assists time poor players to enjoy the full game without grinding
Well it's a question of which is more valuable to you: About 15 hours of your spare time to unlock at at least a quarter of the weapons in the game (the ones covered by the Handgun, Shotgun & Grenade kits), or doing it the hard way and gaining that sense of satisfaction and E-Peen that only a depraved male mind can appreciate.
I don't agree with DLC (a.k.a. "Didn't Launch Content"), stat-wh*ring, unlocks/perks, Battlelog itself or any of that rubbish, but when EA has rammed this down our throats, it's not bad to be able to circumvent a good amount of pointless grinding (I mean even with the free Handgun, Grenade and Shotgun kits plus the DMRs/Battlepacks, you've still got another 40 hours of gameplay, easily ,to unlock everything else).
BF4, like BF3 before it, is a 100% Grindy McGrinderson Grindfest; I'm not complaining if I'm able to skip some of that, though if I had played this game since launch and had already unlocked all of this sh*t anyway, I could see how it would tick me off that all these Level 20s were running around with stuff that should have taken them longer to unlock.
It's EA unbalancing it's own game just to alleviate the frustrated consumer base that has once again been let down by EA & DICE's total disregard for proper development timelines and beta-testing.
On that note is it really "free" if it required paid premium access?
Its the PS+ debacle all over again :-P

The handgun kit and grenade kit is free to any one who has the base BF4 game. It's just that Premium members get a bonus two extra special shortcut kits.
Im not entirely convinced this works? I tried it with both the shotgun kit and DMR kit and had "success" pop up each time. However I log into the game and I still have several things which were meant to be unlocked, greyed out.

Yep I have the premium. When you open origin on PC and click BF4 game details do the DMR and Shotgun packs show up there? My grenade and handgun ones do, but not the other 2
*edit - OK logged out and back in, and it worked (thanks for the suggestion furythree). I have all the shotguns now so all good! I would generally say Thanks OP but considering it was posted here first, then I won't
The DMR worked for me
There is also a patch update and you need to log off and log in again for it to kind of refresh
I have a Premium membership but no luck with DMR
how times have changed. people getting excited and 'deals' for cheats for a game you paid for with a season pass you also paid for

How are you checking? Are you just looking in your unlocks if more shotguns are available or are you looking in game addons??
I can't see it on the page linked above, or the EA store - I only see the grenade pack. I managed to get the other unlock packs in the last few days.

I can see the grenade unlock but not shotgun.
Well Have you clicked the orange box/link titled 'Battlefield 4 Premium Giveaway" in http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/news/view/shortcut-kits… ? Try that, then look at your shotguns in Unlocks and see if more weapons are available!
It shows the green "Success" panel. I'll find out tonight if it does anything. The other two kit upgrades (handguns, grenades) didn't work this way.
those two (handguns, grenades) were not premium exclusives though….. The DMR and Shotgun are, that's why they didn't activate this way. I had to grab the nades and handguns in the store the same way you did.
