Sony A7 + Kit Lens + Battery Grip for $1,799 @ Georges.com.au

80

Currently Georges camera store (Sydney) are selling the Sony A7, with 28-70mm kit lens for $1,799. Cheapest I found today for the camera was about $1,595 inc shipping from dwi - although of course it doesn't come with the extras or genuine Australian warranty and you risk the hassle and cost of having to pay out for duty (http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Terms-and-Conditi…).

Pickup free, delivery extra. As it's Australian stock, you get genuine Sony Australia warranty. Georges is also including a genuine battery grip (http://www.sony.com.au/product/vg-c1em RRP $299). A small added bonus - on opening the box (yes, I've bought one) I found a $30 voucher to spend on accessories on the Sony store… ok won't be able to buy much with it but hey, was a nice touch.

Note - If you get the body separate from the lens (rather than packaged in the same box), you may also qualify to get the current bonus adapter offer (http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/a7redemption/ - you can for example get the Canon Metabones adapter, RRP $399, for free)

If you are considering an A7 I reckon this is a pretty sweet deal.

i would suggest putting the real price in the title aswell

    • Doh. Was in a rush - initially I had it in there but the title was too long… on editing it it obviously dropped off! Have put it in now…..

For once, I read everything for $30.

    • My bad. Have updated the title. ;-)

  • Very good price

I don't think the 'free adaptor' promotion applies to the A7 Kit. Promotion only applies to A7 and A7r 'BODY ONLY' options. Might want to check the fine print for that one.

condition 3 : Promotion valid for the following models only: ILCE-7B / ILCE-7RB only (ILCE-7K is excluded).

    • I think you are right about that. I was going to buy this camera last week and the promotion (Adapter) was valid only for the "Body Only".

By the way, Camera House beat the price by $19 ($1780).

      • wondering if they also include a genuine battery grip.

        • Yes, including the battery grip

    • Ah. Didn't know that. Even without the adapter I reckon it was a decent deal, but Georges didn't have the complete kit in stock, so they gave me the body and the lens as separates. Dumb luck on my part. So got a voucher, and the adapter arrived the other day….. will update the deal though as obviously others may not be so lucky!

  • good price, $30 for buying them all.

If you're travelling u can get it for $1599 from Syd Duty Free shop.

    • mmmm… Or you can claim this deal on TRS and claim back the GST. You get the grip battery pack worth over ~$300 to sell or use.

    • Good price, although technically you should declare it on return (or if you get it at Georges or somewhere else and claim TRS) in which case you will be liable for duty on it making it only about $40 cheaper…..

      • Yep no stock. Just called.

  • This is maybe a stupid question - but is the price going to ever come down from much more from this? I know that the Sony Nex cameras routinely became bargain priced as new models would come out fairly regularly, but I don't think Sony are planning on releasing new full-frame mirrorless models anytime soon. I want to buy this camera, but with such a large purchase I would be kicking myself if I found out I could save an extra couple of hundred dollars if I had waited an extra year.

Think about it this way - you'll spend a couple of hundred dollars to use it for a whole year earlier ;)

No one can predict prices and those who say they can are liars. If you NEED this now, then buy it otherwise continue using what you've got right now.

My own personal rule when I see something I want: sleep on it for a week and if I still really want it, I'll go ahead and buy it.

  • The body only (no kit lens) RRP is $1999 so the price has already gone down. I would expect it to go down further once these extra deals (adapter/grip/etc) expire, but who knows….. the $AUD exchange rate may go south and the price could go up. You just never know.

Me? Well by jumping now I'm getting a grip worth $299 so I can throw in an extra battery to extend shooting time & make portrait shots a little more comfy (I probably would have bought that eventually), plus through dumb luck rather than planning managed to get a voucher for an adapter worth another $399 plus a $30 accessory voucher. So by not waiting, I've got an extra $728 worth of 'stuff'.

As an aside, the kit lens really is pretty ordinary… I've never been a big fan of zooms, and definitely not the cheap ones….. now looking at getting a good quality prime to take advantage of the resolution this camera can capture.

    • Would be interested to hear about it if you find one at a goid price please? :)

    • Have you actually used the kit lens? I have the kit lens with the A7 and is pretty good and much better than any Kit lens I have used so far with other systems ie, APSC and M43. Other people report the same results, just because it is a kit lens it shouldn't be ruled out.

      • Yep, have used the lens. No choice at the moment, as it's the only lens I have that fits! Don't get me wrong - it's a bargain for the price (I think it was an extra $50 or so for the kit versus body alone), and images dead centre look good but it loses a lot of sharpness out on the edges unless it's really stopped down. This can mean having to bump up the iso levels which in turn impacts on noise. There is also some obvious distortion outside of centre that (with raw images - the camera auto corrects for jpegs) needs some post processing adjustments.

So, good lens for the price. Able to capture excellent images if you are aware of the issues (keep targets in the middle of frame or use manual/aperture priority and go to f8 or f16). I'll keep using it for now, but am waiting for Sony or someone else to bring out a prime portrait (around 80mm to 120mm) lens that directly supports the E mount and auto focus etc. In the meantime I'd be tempted to get the 55mm Sel55f18z (http://www.dxomark.com/Reviews/Sony-Zeiss-Sonnar-T-FE-55mm-f…) if it didn't cost almost as much as the camera body itself… sigh…

Am also considering getting as a short term thing the 'pancake' Sel20f28 in crop mode for travel.

        • If you want a fast prime and ok with a bit of crop then buy the Sigma art series 30 f/2.8 and 60 f/2.8 in E mount. Then remove the baffle which is a bit of plastic around the mount which is held by three or four screws. These lenses are small, sharp and very inexpensive. I have both and use the 30m quite a bit.

  • I paid $1,950 for the A7 kit at Sony Centre in Melburne when it was first launched. So this is good price.

  • Looks like you got a pretty good deal, i couldn't replicate it at any of the stores in Sydney City. Georges is out of stock for the kit and no one would match this deal with the bonus handgrip, let alone match it using individual components so i could claim the adapter.

Georges said they'd be back in stock on friday and to try and haggle when they have stock. I also need to get 3x Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 cameras, so they might be willing to deal a little bit.

  • urg, price back up to 1999 now. I'm still going to give it a shot today.
