So i booked our holiday... now I need to find HOTEL for my babies (PET DOGS)

Hi all

We booked our holiday in June, originally, someone in the family was going to look after my TWO DOGS (adult, 40kg each) but a changed of plan and that mean i am now have no other option but to have my 2 dogs stay in a Pet hotel.

Has any Ozbargain crew done this before? If so please add some feedback. This PET hotel thing is a rapidly growing business.

Thank you

What's the difference between a pet hotel and a kennel? (Not a punchline for a joke)

    • Pet hotels have better marketing and charge a lot more i suspect

      Challenge accepted.

You don't sleep in a pet hotel.

I would like to know if anyone has good recommendations too. I will be away soon and my puppy would have only turned 10 months. I worry about sending him to these pet accommodation type thing because I get the impression that he will be left in the "enclosure" all day. Unless I pay X amount of dollars to have someone play with him for 10 minutes a day! Is that how they are run? I would like for a friend to take care of him but I am afraid of troubling people since he is still young and quite high maintenance. Argh, having a pet really adds to the stress of planning a holiday.

    • Yes I've been stressing out as well, mainly due to the concern of them being left behind, last thing you need is for them to be mis-treat.

I completely hear you. One I am considering is Kepala, I have heard that they're not bad. I am yet to go and have a visit. They are certainly not cheap, range about $30-40 a day per dog, and then add another $10(!!) if you want someone to play with them for 15 minutes a day! Also add another $2 in my case, because my pup is still being fed two meals a day. Add another $20 surcharge for pub holiday. The total cost would be about the price of my air ticket, but my main consideration is him being left in that little enclosure all day for 2 weeks.

You have two big dogs, so it will cost you quite a bit if you're going away for as long as I am. Your saving grace is I guess at least they have each other and hopefully can be housed together in one same enclosure.

Hi tymatk~ You cannot better "Mornington Lodge". They are amazing with your treasured pooches. We were recommended to them about 8 years ago & have been using them ever since. They aren't inexpensive but worth the price as they are so reliable & responsible - even when our "Bonnie" became ill whilst there after developing bladder stones. Have a look at their website. We'd not hesitate in recommending them. ~ TPbMe

    • I had a quick look at their website and i have to say i'm impress. Thank you very much, will definitely inquire.

  • OP, do you have a friend who would come sleep at your house? We tend to be out most of the day ourselves, so the dogs are used to amusing themselves during the day. A few times we've been away a trusted friend has come and fed, played with, and spoiled the dogs and stayed there overnight with them. She's a gem.

There ARE people who do pet minding in their home, but with a couple of big fellas like yours you might be pushing it.

    House sitter?

I would suggest getting a house sitter (someone you already know) or paying someone to come and feed, walk etc the dogs every day. That is, unless you have unlimited money as kennels are EXXY especially to pay for extras like walks etc (and even then, they tend to be short and who knows whether they actually happen). When I was a uni student, I did this for some family friends (visited every night to feed and walk the dogs). I took the dogs for a decent 1 hour walk/run every day, which is a lot more than they'd have gotten at a kennel.

    • Yes this is my first option but I am exploring other possibility just in case of worse scenario.

      Cheers
