It has been that price since Dec last year. They even dropped it to $549 on the 24th of Dec for a week.

It might be a good price compared to other retail, but it's not good value considering this phone is now 2 generations old, and the newer models are a similar price.

  The Xperia Z Ultra is not two generations old. Processor-wise it is only one generation old and not even that considering the new Snapdragon 801 isn't available in any on-the-market handset yet. Earliest will be in the Xperia Z2. The Xperia Z Ultra also hasn't been superceded yet by a replacement i.e. there's no Xperia Z Ultra 2 available.
