Same, this is 100% refurb. I had one that lasted 3 months before it died.

You can pull it apart by unscrewing two screws at the back (one is hidden by the sticker) and popping a screwdriver around the case.

Got it off ebay for $20. You can get them for $8 now.

This is how it looks inside:

Our laptops go overseas for recycling and come back as various parts.
Our batteries go overseas for recycling and come back as BTY batteries.
Our tyres go overseas for recycling, but end up being burnt for electricity.

It's funny how we don't recycle in Australia…

      • too labour intensive, and by that i mean our high wages just don't make it worthwhile, Asia is a different story, when you figure they can remove something as cheap as nuts and bolts from e-waste, pay for return shipping and still make a living from it the mind boggles…

      • If recycling was actually cost-efficient in australia, you would see private firms springing up all over the place to take your paper/plastics/aluminium/etc. The fact that you don't see this happening means it doesn't pay for itself, otherwise somebody would already be running a business off it. This means it costs more to ship them to the plant, re-process them, warehouse them, and sell them than it does to buy brand new materials! Only through the power of the state can such a pointless activity be sustained.

Some would argue we do have to feed the bureaucrats though.

        • 'pointless activity' to recycle !

It does not matter that it is not now cost-efficient. It matters for future generations and for the environment they will inherit. Forward looking states in Europe recognize this and mandate recycling. Dell pickup old computers for free in Europe, would be nice here too.

    • No idea. I have mine for 12 months and got email to say there was a price drop.

  • "no support for dual layer" is a killer too
