LaCie Network Space - Ethernet Central Storage - 1TB

  • Store, back up and centralize your photos, music & videos
  • Share content on your local network
  • Enjoy your password-protected private share
  • Connect and forget; compact & quiet
  • Genie and Intego Backup Assistant incl.

Centralize all of your files and share them among networked PC/Mac computers or UPnP AV certified players. Transfer and back up files from your computers easily, and connect a hard disk or digital camera through the extra USB port for directly storing your data or pictures. No setup is required; just connect the LaCie Network Space to your network and enjoy using it immediately. The included LaCie Ethernet Agent software enables direct access to shares: one public that anyone can access locally and another password-protected private share. LaCie Network Space has the ability to stream multimedia files through media players, such as Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3, or act as an iTunes music server. This benefits users by allowing them to watch videos on their television elsewhere in their house rather than needing to be in front of the computer. The LaCie Network Space is also accessible remotely via FTP for when you’re away or when you want to share content with friends. The elegant, compact design blends beautifully into your environment and it’s fanless for near-silent operation.

  • It doesn't mention $0 freight on the item page or freight calculator. I take it this is applied once an account is made and i am at the checkout?
Is there a credit card surcharge?

    • +1

      Correct!!
Applied once the order is completed… and depends on what else you order etc…

      There is no CC surcharge!

These types of 1TB network drives are generally $300-$400.

$225 inc shipping is a nice deal.

  • What hardrive do lacie use in their case?

    • Used to be Maxtor.. The reviews I have read haven't mentioned though, mostly because they mention that the drive is not replaceable I guess..

      • i have a LaCie eSata 750Gb and a 500Gb usb external - (both are poulson design).
According to HDtune, the eSata enclosure holds a samsung F1 spinpoint (HD753LJ) and the older usb enclosure holds a seagate ST3500820AS (which i think is the 7200.10 series - but not certain as this model is not mentioned on any seagate product search).
i have no idea what might be in this particular enclosure.
But i can suggest that it may possibly contain a reasonable quality disk (or two).

  • I'm definitely interested. I'm running Windows 7, and I hope this simply works with a "map network drive" operation.

    • Be careful, network protocol looks like only support FTP. You'll want SMB if want to mount it as a network drive in Windows.

      • I can't imagine that it wouldn't be mountable in any modern OS

      • FTP seems to be available to facilitate remote access. Not quite sure what protocols are used for local access.

  • how about its transfer speed?

    • Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet — from lacie.com

      • Yeah, but the drive is dog-slow..
Don't expect blazing speeds from a NAS priced under $500

  • awesome, just ordered one.
says it should be delivered friday. nice and quick :)
