it seriously only costs a few hundred bucks to hire a designer to (at minimum) change their logo and banner
but i guess the no frills website coincides with the theme of their business i guess
I reckon they keep a shoddy looking website on purpose, to deter all the n00b people from coming in and asking them random questions like 'what is a hard drive'? lol - those people go to HN, while tech-savvy peeps go to MSY.
Actually, MSY near my home is so different compared to 6-7 years ago. Recently I heard a customer asked questions such as "can you recommend me the best one" and they told him which one. It used to be they'd told the customer to "do your own research before buying" kind of reply
Last time I went there the guy in front was asking how much a monitor was. The box was next to the counter and he was pointing to it. The conversation went like this:
Customer "How much is that monitor?"
MSY Staff: "Do you want to buy it?"
Customer: "Maybe, I just need to know how much it is first. How much is it?"
MSY Staff: "Price is on price list"
Customer: "Where are the price lists?"
MSY Staff: "Ran out of price lists. Price list is on website."You couldn't make this stuff up.
Unfortunately every time I go to MSY (Adelaide) these days, the lines are filled with idiots asking such arcane questions as "I only have one powerpoint, I want to build this (shitty dunger of a budget PC), am I going to be able to run everything off one powerpoint only?"
FFS, for two years I lived in a house with only one powerpoint in each room, I ran so many things (including a portable air conditioner) off that one powerpoint it should have been made illegal.
Unfortunately the shitty website doesn't seem to fend off the worst kind of customer - the uninformed tightass. I don't envy MSY for having the attitude that they do towards such customers.
When I go in, its a matter of "here to pick up online order C123456" - they hand me over a box, I hand them over my EFTPOS card, and we're done. :)
