Starting fresh after divorce (need everything)

Hi Everyone,

I have a week to move out and want to know where the best places would be for great bargains for around the unit.

I was thinking Kmart for the basic cooking and kitchen utensils but trying to work out would 2ndsworld or thegoodguys or another company be better for electrical appliances.

Thanks :)

If new whitegoods, I can recommend www.appliancesonline.com.au. They deliver at a time to suit you and keep to the time they promise.

    • I second that store, we've had a good experience there.

      @OP,

If you're not pressed for time, consider garage sales/gumtree etc. People leaving country/moving/selling can't give away the stuff.

Target is good, but sometimes the quality is average. For the price though, no complaints.

  • I agree with Appliances Online, and gumtree - for example my friend moved back to the States late last year and gave a lovely 8 place dinner setting away free after no takers at $50 on gumtree. She sold many other goods there too. Myself and many workmates have all had good experiences with Appliances Online. All the best.

80 Piece Kitchen set for $49

  • thanks everyone, i took a look at appliancesonline and they had the same pricing as thegoodguys and 2ndsworld but i could always save and upgrade later. i have taken a look at gumtree and hoping to get most of my stuff there but cheap new is always good too

  • Hit up some garage sales too (listed in your local newspapers, state newspaper, and on Gumtree). A lot of people sell home and small kitchen appliances for cheap, sometimes barely or never used.

Plus they're fun in general for bagain hunters.. never know what you'll find! :)

  • I got all of my furniture second hand off gumtree. I also second garage sales, you can often find really good kitchen stuff - look out for ones advertised that the sellers are moving overseas etc.

  • i ended up getting the 80 Piece Kitchen Set here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/138141 and got a fridge and couch for under $300 and looks new so i think its a bargain there :) thanks everyone

  • You have all been good but what about sheets and towels, what are the quality of say kmart, target, bigw etc?

    • I've found the quality of the sheets from Kmart to be quite good. You missed out by about a month on some AWESOME towel prices at Sheridan. Their towels are always beautiful and soft.

      Don't forget you'll need teatowels.

      • Spotlight has some good specials this week on blankets, doonas, bathmats sheets and towels this week. You may need to become a VIP member to get some of the prices, but it's easy enough to join up instore or online

        • I had a look at targets Grandeur range (was recommend to be good quality for price) and it looks cheaper than Spotlight for sheets and i can get the doona's cheaper at target too. but thanks for the heads up, i will keep an eye for spotlight specials now and will join up

        • The Target side sleeper pillow is fantastic (at least if you're a front / side sleeper like me). Gf tried to replace mine with a Sheridan pillow that just didn't work for me (too firm) but I managed to rescue my 2 yr old target pillow before it went to the bin. Will replace it at next sale (full price is only about $20 mind you).

  • I know kmart had buldles of 5 tea towels really cheap so im hopeing they still have them

  • Divorce is tough. Good luck with everything.

    • Thanks, i have just spent the day looking at 6 places running around and got accepted for a place within 1hr which i thought was good and is on my top 2 list but still waiting for my number 1 place to call me back tomorrow morning. i have a couple of things now and cant wait to move in and then buy the rest as i have relised that both places i really like have different size fridge cutouts (probably not the correct word) and the lounge rooms are different sizes but found a table and 4 chairs for $20 in new condition due to moving so i thought that was a bargain

    • i checked out Ziilch but when i looked under homewares there was nothing there and whats the link to freecycle?

      • Google it? Freecycle.org…

  • Facegroup BSS groups are great. I often see some great bargains there.
