  • got my 16 GB though from Harvey Norman for $518 plus $50 gift card and purchased 4 x $20 iTunes gift cards with it (Buy one get one free), still have $10 left for Harvey Norman shopping, no complain but would have waited for this deal, better value (bigger capacity)

what performance? I so far cannot see any lag with apps, smooth like slippery ;). also, the battery is one of the best ever, I stop using my iPhone 5S since I got this one, only charge 1 for 2 days instead of 2 for 1 day with my iPhone. Here is the deal: powerful performance + price + battery life + local AU warranty.

      • +3

Fastest phone I've ever owned. No lag. 2day battery. Great phone from so so company.

      • What is the camera like? Much lag?

        • +1

not really, all you have to do is wait till the focus squares on screen turn to GREEN (green border), that means it locks the foci and you can take photo without blur ;), Full HD video with 60fps is great, except focus not so great with filming mode

    • +1

performance (of price) just improved, $465 from The Good Guys lol

      • Is that $50 cumulative? So when you purchase $500, you get 2*$50?

  • Anyone know if I buy now, can I claim TRS when I go overseas middle May?

    • +3

I think so, they changed the rules to be 60 days and they allow multiple receipts from the same retailer for a while now, if I have not mistaken.

      • +1

you're right ;), and you can make it become $418.5 after all (get it from The Good Guys with Amex credit card + TRS)

      • Thanks guys.

    • From custom website : Travellers can claim through the tourist refund scheme on purchases made up to 60 days before leaving Australia (under old regulations they had 30 days). This will apply to sales made on or after 17 April 2013.

    • +1

I'm not sure but since cashback offered for AU stock hence Mobicity might be eligible (you can ring LG to confirm first then let us know so we can change the tile ^_^), I can see Optus, Harvey Norman, JBHi-Fi, DickSmith, Allphones and Others* (please confirm with LG first before you purchase out of the listed retailers)

    • +1

$439 is excluding shipping. Shipping to AU is $74.95 which brings the total to $513.95.
Not sure you will get the cashback as mentioned by webtherapist, so you are saving not much then.

      • got confirmed, as long as you are getting an AU stock, cashback is not available for grey import

  • +1

just found out you can get a Black 32GB from The Good Guys with Amex credit card for as low as $465

    • Does goodguys qualify for cashback?

      • think so since they are selling genuine AU stock

  • -1

Excellent price. Owned this phone since it came out and can't recommend it enough especially for the price. Knock on and off is great but takes a bit of getting used to. Reviews have said it is finicky but you just have to tap at the right speed. Volume button on the back also no biggie. Side buttons are better for me as I'm missing the digit on my index finger but I can still get to it fine with the stump or middle finger.

    Don't think. Buy it!

    • I've heard its battery life is excellent. Can you comment?

      • +4

2 days per charge with normal usage, more than 12hrs with very heavy usage, tested on mine ;)

        • +1

I am a pretty heavy user, 3GB data a month on LTE (and my torrents dont count) and it usually has 10% at end of the day.

Best battery i have come across of all brands…. Short of carrying backup batteries for a Galaxy phone.

        • Your torrents don't count? On an old plan that doesn't count non-http as data? :P

        • I would do torrents while at home on wifi, yes, torrents… on my G2. Occasionally it has bled over when i forgot to turn it off and it then download on LTE. Doing that stuff drains power pretty quickly.

      • +1

2 days of udage on a charge. My phone has been going since 6am. Niw 7pm and I'm on 59 percent. Ice used my phone for websurfing a few calls, podcasts, music, reading pdfs and also tethering to my laptop over this period. With minimal usage i come home at 90 percent.

    • I have found its the speed, and also placement of a sensor next to the camera. If you cup the phone and a stray finger lands near it, the taps wont register.

  • Damn! I bought it on Saturday for my dad. Two days before April fools! Should I try emailing LG and see if they can let me have the cashback?

    • Go to the shop and ask if they'll let you return it and immediately buy it again so that you can claim the cashback. They should say yes. Otherwise try another branch of the same shop.

      • could work, as my grandpa usually does it at JBHiFi (possibly they respect him as a senior though lol)

        • +2

I previously worked retail and had you asked me I would've happily done it - staff just want to keep customers happy. For greater chance of success go midweek when the store is less busy.

        • Sorry for out of topic question…I bought LG Optimus Gfrom JB few months back and i need them to fix screen, so do i need to visit JB from where i bought my phone or I can go to any JB?

        • +1

if caused by you, contact LG Australia directly but if not, bring it back to either JB or LG but JB is better coz you can let them deal for your problem without posting problems

        • Thanks. Should i go to any JB or the one from where i bought it?

        • +1

You can goto any JB and do returns. I had purchased a Sony phone from a jb store in Melb, died within 7 days but i live in Sydney, so took it in and they swapped it without a problem.

      • But dad already had the phone opened and been using it since Sunday. Or you mean it's just paper work of return and rescan to buy again immediately?

        • It's just paperwork so that the receipt is on the new day, you never give the phone back (although I would definitely bring it with you).

Tell the employee "I bought it on Saturday and now LG has done a cashback for if I bought it Monday onwards. Can I refund and rebuy it so that I can claim the cashback from LG?"

    • an email that could possibly bring you $50 in pocket, why not ;)

    • +1

In the same boat. Bought at DJs in Chatswood, Sydney…. now Dick Smith…doh! Might emai both…

  • How does this compare to the Nexus 5?

I dropped and cracked my Nexus 5 which will cost ~$220 to replace. I'm wondering if this is the better option?

    • +2

f yeah, I owned a Nexus 5 when it first came out, battery and camera so bad, LG G2 doesnt come with stock Android but can be updated to KitKat now, instead of spending 220 for a replacement or repair, spend a bit extra and you wont regret (if spending is ok with you)

    • I have had both, G2 is better in a number of ways.
Battery, screen size, camera OIS and knock on/off. IMHO.

Oh and the LG android mods are very light/liveable. And i speak as someone that usually prefer AOSP and custom clean roms.

  • How long is the warranty with The Good Guys?

  • Good guys website says 2 years Manufacture's warranty.
But I don't think when you buy from goodguys you will get the bonus quick window cover as mentioned JB hifi.

    • And possible goodguys only have black?

      • yes, if you like White one, JBHiFi is the next good one to go with

        • JB didn't have warranty details on website, so following LG 1 yr?
Harvey Norman might be better, white plus 2 yrs

        • under Australian Consumer Law, 24 months, no exception. Even Apple, now if you buy an iPhone from DSE, Apple and DSE in charge with your first year warranty, then the 2nd year is by default from DSE. You can read more about this on Apple warranty support Q n A

    • all the Au stock comes with FREE flip cover by default

  • IMHO, wait for DSE to have another of their 11% off online sale as they seem to keep coming back

    • Stock up on their (5% off) Wish Gift Card
    • Get the $50 gift card

if my maths are right that'll be: ~$455

and if going overseas, Claim TRS should take it down to: ~$406

    • +2

good luck with that coz if you have noticed, LG G2 automatically becomes Temporarily Out Of Stock with sales on ;)

      • I managed to get one about 2 sales ago at around $510 or something :)

But I had noticed that there were two similar sales before that, that had it listed as Out of Stock

        • +1

          because Dick dicked everyone ;)

        • they have 10% off i checked at 10:50 am and they've dicked it again.

        • surely they do, Dick dicks us again :)

    • I stalked this phone for weeks to get it at the Dick Smith price. Managed to finally get it at DJs powered by Dick Smith, but had to go out to the suburbs and they only had 2 left last Saturday. I tried all the Sydney and Hobart stores online — all out of stock. Personally I would not be waiting for it to return to Dick Smith.

  • So if I can not see the Good Guys offer on my AMEX profile (under Offers & Places), I guess there is no way to register my card for this deal. Is that right?

    • I would assume so, as it was only for the first 2000 members to save it first

  • +2

Harvey Norman also offering $50 harvey Norman gift card with 32gb model

  • Mobiciti confirms their stock is imported.
Promotion is valid till end of May, wonder there will be any further discounts during easter holidays…

  • Anyone think you can haggle with JB Hifi to get the price down further?

    • I bought a G2 for $510 from JB last month. Several NSW users also had luck…

  • Very tempting post, I have iPhones, gallexies, not LG, may be I'll try this. Thanks.

    • +1

Most liveable phone for me. Totally have no desire to upgrade after buying G2.

Having also used Samsung, N5, Apple and Sony…. This is my preferred phone now.

  • Allphones selling it for $529 but doesn't mention whether its a 16GB or 32GB model

    http://www.allphones.com.au/lg/g2.asp#

But in it's description it clearly mentions "Quick window smart case (not included, optional accessory)"

    • The smart case was a promotion LG had for G2, i would think as a result all Aus stock has it. Some listings by sites may vary and not guaranteed.

    • its 16 from Allphones for 529 ;)

    • I got one from allphones this arvo. It was $499 in store instead of $529. They come with the free flip case too. They didnt have the 32gb model at all at the Darwin store.

  • +1

Looks good in comparison to nexus 5 now.

  • If I can find a place around Melbourne for a decent price I think I'll pick one up - looking for a replacement for my S3 (which actually has been a pretty good phone apart from the battery life)

  • how come on TGG site it says $565?

    • never mind, i get it now

  • -2

Note that G3 is coming out this week. Hence the price drop and promotion

    • and you can expect to wait and wait till G4, G5, etc. phone always comes with high price tag when first launched, looked at Samsung S5, around 900 now, would be around 700 half year later and lower after. Just opinion, no neg about your comment at all

    • +3

Note that G3 is certainly not coming out this week or this month.

  • I just got the Nexus 5 32gb last night after looking for phone deals for over a week here.:( but having looked at
    http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Google-Nexus-5,LG-G…
I'm still happy with my purchase. the only real difference being the front camera and 60 fps HD video recording. dont have amex so $468 inc postage for N5 from google play store wins for me.

    • +2

the only real difference being the front camera and 60 fps HD video recording

Screen size, rear camera, battery life?

      • valid points
for me however screen size is already big enough. this thing has to live in my pocket.
rear camera …well since 2 megapixels cameras came out i havent seen any improvements to the selfies i post to facebook and many of my friends wish i owned a camera with less pixels :P
extended Battery life would be nice but i do have a solar panel when i go bush.
Screen replacement seems to be $40 more
Im still trying to work out the saving if non amex but my budget was $400 i stretched it to 468 i wouldnt have gone over the $500 mark.

  • +5

This phone was 2013 gadget of the year and up until this week the best android phone on the market.
Don't even compare it to the Nexus 5 as its in a totally different class.

Nexus 5 is a a budget phone with the purpose of showcasing android.
    G2 is LG's 2013 flagship.

N5 punches way above its weight and offered exceptional value last year. But G2 is superior in every single way.

G2 is by far the best value android handset money can buy in Australia right now.

    • -6

The g2 is just your run of the mill average plastic phone. From glancing through awards last year HTC had what many considered the best phone last year.

    • how much difference between N5 G2 can there be? they have identical processor and gpu and the same number of pixels to refresh… In my mind either the N5 is too cheap or the G2 is overpriced (RRP only not bargain price)

      • Battery: The larger battery is worth its weight in Li polymer to me! Definitely not over priced IMHO.

Display: N5 is cheaper also bc LG obviously use left over screen panels thus N5s has random dead pixel issues. No such danger with G2 as its their flagship. From memory G2 has higher density, so not same as N5.

Camera OIS: also makes G2 much more capable.

        Knock On/Off: Love it.

JB Hi Fi in Enex building (100 St Georges Tce) Perth was happy to price match ($510) receipt from: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/137094

    • If you can post the invoice it would be great!

    • Aisknab, would u be able to share and post your invoice from JB HiFi Enex? Thx!

  • It doesn't have to be a 32GB model does it? TGG has 16GB for $518 and I don't mind the lower capacity.

    • -6

It depends on your personal needs, but remember G2 has no micro sd slot. I actually can't see how people could classify this as a bargain now.. Phones like the oneplus one will be out soon, offer a similar price tag but beat this phone hands down.

      negs
      -poor plastic build quality
-lg version of android is terrible
      -ridiculous button placement
      -LG
-Every other flagship phone is better except samsung
-LG had to sell so cheap to compete with other flagship phones, people confuse being cheap as being good
-No resale value, these things will continue to depreciate faster than their competition including probably the n5

      Pos
      - Bang for buck
      - Decent battery

The n5 beats it in a few key areas too, basically the G2 is the n5 ugly big brother.

      • +2

Some of your reason for negatives are funny. I won't bother writing a long rebuttal, but its why ppl are neging your comment.

  • How does LG verify the phone was bought after 1st April? The claim form didn't ask for a receipt as proof of purchase date and I wonder if they check the imei activation date on your sim?

    • the IMEI would tell, because when you purchase the phone from listed retailers, the info sent back to LG, when you claim your cashback, it would check the IMEI you inout on LG website, I tried, not valid since I purchased mine few weeks before the promotion, but I got $80 worth of iTunes card and $10 credit from Harvey Norman when it was first dropped to $518

  • Need some help friends. Grabbed one from Jb hi if this afternoon. Got home and jumped to the promotion page to claim the cashback. When I entered my IMEI CODE it was said 'not valid or used one' but I am pretty sure I entered the right number and double checked. Is anyone else have the same problem? Is it possible that someone claimed it before me since I bought it in the avo and tried to claim it in the evening so maybe the stuff there? Don't know if I can ask jb hi fi to change me a new one because of this.

    • same as me! I also got it from jb hifi. One reason I can think of is that the phone must be turned on and activated first before the IMEI can be registered. (I haven't done so yet)

      • Yeah, maybe that's the case , I haven't actives my phone either cause I am waiting for the screen protector to arrive
